Chapter 50: The Happy Ending
Harper’s POV
The rest of the day feels weird. I can’t quite wrap my head around the fact that I’m officially Alpha. When my Mother heard the news, I don’t think she was particularly happy about my decisions.
She was very against me banishing Artemis and Ansel, but I had no other choice. If I allowed them to stay, they would’ve tried watching over me like Julius and Dean does to Asher. But when I told her that, it still didn’t change her mind.
She’s so blinded by the way Artemis has presented himself to others, that she doesn’t realize just how evil he is. If I told her about what he did as a child up until this point, she would be either horrified or think I’m a liar. So, I’ll keep that information to myself for now.
I haven’t had the chance to catch up with Asher after I heard he banished his uncles. I’m so proud of him for standing up for himself and finally taking that leap to ensure he has full control over his pack. I’m sure a huge weight has been lifted off his shoulders seeing them get in their car and leave for good.
I felt the same way when I watched Artemis and Ansel leave. They didn’t say a single word to me, which I preferred. If I heard another word come out of Artemis’s mouth, I would’ve punched him in the face.
Finally, being able to call myself an Alpha is so surreal. Multiple members of the pack were coming up to congratulate me in the hallways. I haven’t had a chance to check out my old room, but some members said they will begin construction on it first thing in the morning.
I have the option of moving into the room my Mother and Father shared together when he was Alpha, but I chose not to because I feel the most comfortable in my own space. I want to still feel like myself, and if I move into the master bedroom, I’ll begin to feel like someone I’m not.
I’m in the kitchen cleaning up after dinner, when Amaris knocks on the wall, announcing her presence. I look up and smile at her.
“So, this was the big plan?” She asks, slowly walking into the room.
I wipe my hands free of soap suds, moving away from the sink, “I guess you could say that.”
She laughs, taking a seat at the bench, “It’s weird seeing you with all this power, and yet, it feels right at the same time.”
I smile, looking down at my hands, “I love being Luna, I really do, but being Alpha is in my blood.”
She smiles, nodding her head, “You don’t have to explain yourself. Seeing you this happy is all that matters to me.”
I move around the counter and embrace her in a hug. She nuzzles her face into the crook of my neck. We stay like this for a while, neither of us wanting to end this special moment.
Befriending Amaris was the best decision I made when I moved in. She’s the most loyal friend a person could want, and she’s so caring, even giving up her bedroom when Asher and I really needed it. I’m not sure many people would do that for someone else, but Amaris would. I love her with all my heart.
She pulls away, wiping away a stray tear, “By the way, Asher said he wants to see you.”
I frown, “Oh yeah? Where?”
She smiles, “He said you would know exactly where.”
I smile, wanting to kiss that man so bad right now.
-----------------
The sun is beginning to set low in the sky as I make my way towards the hidden meadow. I had completely forgotten about this place. I was so caught in my own issues, I never stopped to take a breather here.
As I approach the open space, I see Asher sitting in the middle of the grass, looking up at the sky. I have a flashback to the first time I saw him sitting here on his own. I hadn’t wanted to share this part of me with anyone else, but I knew almost instantly that I could trust Asher to keep this place a secret.
He too, like me, needs a place to clear his head. I couldn’t rob him of such a beautiful spot to do just that. Besides, I enjoyed his company every time we were together.
I take a seat on the grass next to him, looking at the stars high in the sky. It’s absolutely freezing out here, but I ignore it because being here with Asher is more important.
“The sky always looks so beautiful here,” he says, never taking his eyes away from the scenery.
I smile, looking at every feature on his face. He really is the most beautiful man I’ve ever laid eyes on. Everything about him is perfect. How did I get so lucky?
“Just like you,” he says, tearing his eyes away to look at me.
I blush, pushing at his shoulder, “You’re so cheesy.”
Unlike before when we used to visit here together, Asher moves closer to me, wrapping his arm around my waist, bringing me closer to the warmth of his body.
“You’re not still mad at me, are you?” I ask, looking up at him.
He shakes his head, “Of course not. Seeing you kick butt out there made my anger go away, and I was filled with love and proudness. I thought ‘That’s my wife,”
“I did kick a lot of a** out there,” I laugh, snuggling into him more.
“The main question we need to be asking ourselves,” He says, tracing small circles on my pack, “Is where do we go from here?”
I sigh, “I have no idea. I don’t want us to be apart, though. I’m willing to come back to your compound and be the Luna. I can manage my pack from afar.”
Asher shakes his head, “I can’t allow you to do that. You’ve worked too hard to make this dream come true, so you need to be here with them. They need all the guidance they can get right now.”
I hadn’t thought about what we would have to do if I became Alpha. Getting into a relationship wasn’t part of the plan, so it’s made everything more complicated.
“I don’t know what to do, Asher.”
We sit in silence for a moment, the wind blowing past us in small gusts. Our minds are going a mile a minute, trying to think about how to make this situation work where we’re both happy and together.
“I have an idea,” Asher says, turning to face me, “Why don’t we merge the packs and all live together.”
I think about it for a moment, “Would we both be the Alpha?”
He nods his head, “We will be the strongest couple ever. We will have double the people living in the compound, and we will be the tightest community possible.”
I smile, “I like that idea. We’ll have to do some expanding, though.”
Asher laughs, “Of course. With your brothers and my uncles gone, we will have no threats to worry about.”
“I wouldn’t rule them out as threats,” I say, “Who knows if they’ll try to come back and seek revenge.”
Asher shrugs, “We’ll worry about that another day,” He releases me from our position and kneels in front of me, “I have an important question.”
I smile, but inside I’m confused as to what is happening, “What’s that?”
“Harper,” he smiles, kneeling now on one leg, “Will you officially be my wife?”
I smile at how sweet and adorable this man is. I want to pinch his cheeks and cuddle him all day. I reach up and run my fingers through his hair, bringing our lips together.
When we pull apart, I smile, “It would be my pleasure, Husband.”
