Chapter 22
Nothing that is what she saw. Nothing but the bright white light. Jenna squinted her eyes. Still the light stayed. Confused she glanced to the side and then behind her. The white light had surrounded her. Was she dead? It was the one and sole thought in her mind. “Tap, Tap,” She spun around to the sound of footsteps on the floor.
It seemed like minutes but was more like seconds when a figure started to appear. The first thing Jenna saw was red flaming hair that was wild and untamed. She gasped as the figure came into focus and she was face to face with herself.
“Don’t be afraid,” he double said giving her a smile.
“Who are you?”
“My name is Edina, we are one and the same,” She didn’t make any sense.
“I don’t understand,” Jenna whined.
“Oh, but you do. I am you, a past you. Open your mind. Look inside yourself. There you will find the answers,” At Edina’s last words, Jenna’s mind exploded with images, they moved fast. She couldn’t seem to grab a hold of one and make sense of them.
Her head become loaded with pain, forcing her to her knees. Feelings of anger, sorrow and hate filled her body. Then everything stopped. Jenna remembered everything. She knew who she was and what she had to do.
The room began to spin as Jenna came to terms with her past self and the job that had been handed to her. The white light began to fade, and darkness took its place.

Josh waved his hand in front of Jenna’s face, willing her to move. She stood like a stone statue, not moving one muscle nor blinking. Panic ran through Josh as he said her name over and over again, each time that bit louder. Paige began to pull on his arm. He could hear the sound of car doors slamming shut and knew it would only be minutes or seconds before they were in big trouble.
Suddenly Jenna toppled over. Josh caught her before she hit the floor.
“Come on, let’s go!” Jax yelled at Josh. Scooping Jenna up into his arms Josh followed Jax through the building. They exited through an already smashed window in the back. Once they were clear of the building, they used the woods to make their way home.
Josh should have felt relived or thankful. Jax was alive, he was safe. Yet all he felt was worried.
The shocked looks on his parents’ faces didn’t go unnoticed as they entered his home. With a gasp and a speechless second, his mum, dashed across the room and threw her arms around Jax. Tears streamed from her eyes. Tears of happiness and relief, her eyes shone with a light Josh had not seen in a while. Josh still cradled Jenna in his arms, holding her tight to his chest.
Leaving his family with Jax, Josh took Jenna to his room and gently laid her on his bed. Without a doubt in his mind, he knew things had just taken a turn for the worse. For the first time in his life, he was scared.
All the rumors and legacies were coming true, granted his parents had drilled them into his head from a young age. But not once did he think he would be a part of it.
Yet he knew that the Sherman’s were afraid. Why else would they send his family to the woods to guard her resting place?
Then there was Jax. One look at him and Josh saw the deep hatred in his eyes. The brother he had once known was long gone. So was their connection. The special bond that only twins had. He felt nothing but emptiness where his brother once was.
With a deep sigh, Josh went downstairs to confront his parents and family. He stood in the doorway and watched his mother smile, she looked years younger. All her worry had drained from her body, leaving behind the young beauty he knew as his mum.
His dad patted Jax on the arm and gave him a big grin, when he looked at Paige, he knew something was off. She held a faraway glance to her eyes.
Josh made his way to his sister.
“Hay,” he said as he approached.
“Eh, oh hay,” Just as he thought, something was bothering her.
“What’s up?”
“Nothing,” she shrugged and moved further into the throng of family.
That one simple move told Josh all he needed to know. Paige was hiding something.

For weeks, maybe months, he didn’t know, but this was all he wanted. To be back with his family, his own clan.
So why did he have a strange feeling in the pit of his stomach? A pull.
Shaking his head, he tried to smile and act happy to be home. However, his thoughts kept straying to Marcel, the young wolf. Jax had seen him escape. He just hoped he would find his family again. Melanie had checked him over. Tutting at the skin and bones his body had become. As always Melanie’s first instinct was to care for her boy and offered to get him some food which he declined. Everything was too overwhelming.
“I am so glad to have you back,” Paige gushed, wrapping her arms around him. Jax was taken a little back, one second, she was talking to Josh the next she was there.
“Thanks, sis, glad to be back,” he gave her a toothy grin.
“Listen guys, I am gonna get my head down, long day you know,” It was more than that. After all this time, he needed time, space to think.
“Of course,” his mother said kissing him on the cheek. Jax couldn’t get out of the kitchen quick enough. He made his way through the house and up the stairs. He paused at Josh’s room. Slowly he inched the door open. The red beauty was fast asleep, tossing and turning. Jax stepped further into the room. He wondered why Josh had been taken with this girl. Her hair was wild and her skin pale. There wasn’t really anything striking about her.
He left the room and lay on his own bed. He couldn’t get comfortable and so he lay on the floor. It was much better. Jax starred up at the ceiling. He had changed and he knew it. He wasn’t the fun, outgoing young man he used to be. The young man his family expected him to be.

Pitch black. That was all Jenna could see when she opened her eyes. She felt the chilly hands of fear travel down her spine. Where was she? The question burned in her mind. Voices drifted through the crack in the door. They were hushed. Jenna couldn’t make out what was being said.
Climbing from the bed, she moved towards the light streaming through the slightly open door. She paused and peeked out onto the landing. It was empty.
Opening the door slowly, it squeaked on its hinges. She froze. Still the voices remained. Jenna slid through the gap and crept along the landing to the stairs. Looking down, she saw no one. She took each step at a snail’s pace. Stopping midway she crouched down and peeked through the stairway banister. She could hear the voices clearly now and see the faces of their occupants.
