The G.G.M. had created an army of shifters by enlisting the help of hundreds of humans. Driven by a desire for human blood and possessed by an animalistic compulsion to consume human flesh. They fought with all of their might and a fight that lacked a distinct pattern. Reece was having a hard time figuring out what they were going to do next and how they were going to use their body to do it. As a result, he was unable to gain an advantage in the fight.
The G.G.M.'s subjects, the innocent men and women, were long gone. A savage animal had taken its place. Even so, Reece couldn't justify their deaths as the result of events that were entirely out of their control. De'Mar's people were responsible for resolving the fate of Dem'Say woods and its home. Their blood had been used in the experiment. Because of this, Reece held them responsible.
It was Edina and Cassidy's duty to assist in any way possible. Cassidy's expression alternated between confusion and concentration at times, and Reece noticed it.

"These are my people." The sound of Cora's voice in his head made his legs tremble. "My friends and family, it is time," she said. His hunch had been proven to be correct. The queen had returned.
