Chapter 31: 1 + 2 = 3
Jason's POV
"Mate!" Spike calls out the moment she turns around. We lock eyes and we both say mate at the same time, so I know spike is right but I'm confused and I can see that she is too. She's about to say something but all that comes out is a mouth full of blood. She drops to her knees and is about to fall over but I get to her at the speed of light and catch her before she hits the ground. I cradle her in my arms and whisper that she'd be okay and she wetly whispers "sorry mate" as she passes out. Witnessing all that alpha Black is beside me in seconds, "what's wrong with her?" he says trying to take her from me. I growl warning him not to touch her. "Now's not the time pup," he says darkly, "she may be your mate but she is my pup, and I will fight you if I have to to make sure that she is okay". Sighing, I calm myself down and let him take a look at her. He was right, alpha's are just as protective over their pups as they are their mates; he's her father and since we haven't marked each other yet, he'd still be better able to figure out how badly injured she is. As he does a quick check of her from head to toe, I can't help the growl that comes out as he presses on her stomach. "She has a lot of internal bleeding and there's blood in her lungs, we need to get her back to our pack so that our doc can take care of her" he says tiredly, "No," I answer immediately, "Your pack was just attacked, and your doc is swamped with all your injured pack members right now, so I'll take her to my pack. It's closer, safer, plus it wouldn't be the first time my pack doctor would treat her". After thinking about it for a moment he agrees, "I have to check on my family and pack but I will come to your pack in 1 week, I’m trusting you to keep me updated”. I nod in agreement and send him off with my grammas.
I take my mate to my pack and my pack doctor took care of her. “Alpha she’ll be ok,” the doc says, “you should stay with her as much as you can though, the mate bond will help her heal faster”. After he leaves my room, I go to her bedside and sit there. I memorize every pore on her face. “Her hair is different from four years ago,” Spike says. “Yea, it was black when we first saw her,” I answer still staring at her face. “She’s the one who saved Maria, she’s Black Fang” he says, as I hold her hand. It’s been a week now but she still hasn’t woken up yet. I link Ron and let him know that I’d be taking the rest of the day off. Cradling her in my arms, I lay beside her and kiss the top of her head, “I need you, so you’re not allowed to keep sleeping” I say as I close my eyes.
Sapphire’s POV
It’s dark and smoky. I call out to Enya but get no answer. Pulling myself off the ground, I look around trying to figure out where I am. My body feels heavy, so I take my time as I drag forward. There’s a door in front of me but the handle is gone. I touch the door but immediately pull my hand back, my finger tips are singed. “What the hell?” I think to myself. What’s going on? I look back in the direction I walked from and there is only complete darkness. A swallowing darkness. From the other side of the door I faintly hear, "Sapphire...help me". "Enya, is that you?" I ask. "Sapphire, help me", it continues. Taking off my shirt, I wrap it around my right arm and shoulder and try to brake the door down. After trying over and over, my body starts to feel heavier, my shirt feels like it's about to catch on fire and I have minor burns up and down my arm. "Help Sapphire!" I hear again from the other side of the door. Hunching over and holding my arm, I use all my remaining strength and give he door one more ram, it moves a little, but I keep pushing. I hear the searing of my skin and the smell of flesh burning fills my nose, but I keep pushing until it finally breaks.
I fall into an ocean of water and start to sink. "Sapphire, help me!" I hear again coming from below me, I stop swimming up and look below me into the darkness again. I won't be able to hold my breath for much longer but I'd give my last breath for Enya any day, if she needs me then I'll go to her even if it kills me. I swim down into the darkness, and as my need to breathe grows I just focus on getting to the bottom. I start to see some light, so I keep swimming towards it but my lungs are about to explode and I'm starting to see black dots in my vision. I'm about to pass out but I keep swimming. Just as I'm about to reach the light, my vision starts to fade. "No Enya!" I think before i'm suddenly swallowed by the light. My eyes fly open and I gasp for air as I hold my chest. After I get my breathing under control I look around, now I'm in a white room. Out of no where, I start to hear Enya calling out for help again. That's when I realize, this isn't real. I sit and fold my legs, I close my eyes and try to focus but suddenly heavy and wild winds start to fill the room. The winds beat against me from every side, but instead of reacting to it I just take deep breaths and focus on holding out until the end. Once it stops I'm caught off guard by a downpour of dirt filling up the room. I start to panic and try to dig myself out as it threatens to bury me, but then I remembered, this isn't real. So I moving and just let it cover me completely, then what feels like a vine wraps around me completely until it gets up to my head. It tries to pry my mouth open but I move my head around avoiding it. Then I have a flashback from when I was a kid, mom is teaching me about the different plants and herbs that can help remove toxins from the body. Holding a thick vine to my nose she says, "smell this one, it looks aggressive and if you get wrapped up in it you could get suffocated but it is one of the best plants to use in anti-venoms or medicines. It's one of the best and most potent medicinal herbs so you can trust it out in the wild, you don't ever have to be weary about eating it". So I open my mouth and let it go in. It shoots down my throat and my body instinctively tries to gag and fight but the vine is too strong, it squeezes and continues to go down my throat. "This is it," I think, "I'm dead," then I pass out again.
