Blood Magic
Yolie:
Well, the interview with Alex this afternoon ended on a rather sinister note. His warning still rings in my ears. I must say that I was very surprised when he said he is unable to resist me for long, I thought the only one affected by uncontrollable attacks of lust was me. It's a relief to know that whatever is causing this affects him, too.
I unbuckle the belt that holds the book covers closed and look at the first page. It is written in intelligible symbols. They are like some kind of runes. I bite my lip. Alex said that the book was sealed with magic and also said that the Sorceress's magic resides in my blood. Before I lose my nerve, I rummage through the drawers of the nightstand and find a box wich contains hundreds of colorful pins.
In the movies, every time the protagonists faces a similar situation they take a carving knife and open a gigantic wound in the palm of their hands. Thank goodness this isn’t a movie.
I prick my index finger with the pin and squeeze the tiny wound until a drop of my blood falls on the first page. For a second nothing happens and I sigh in relief thinking that Alex will have to let me go, since I’m not able to decipher these scribbles either.
The black runes wobble on the page turning bright reddish like my blood and disappear, giving way to a gigantic family tree. At the top of the tree I read the name Yoleandra Bruxain from her part branch after branch after branch of names until the last name is Yolie Bruxain.
It's me. My name is Yolie Bruzain. My last name is slightly misspelled but it is more than obvious that it’s referring to me. How else is the disappearance of the runes and the presence of this family tree explained then? My blood has caused the transformation and I finally understand it… my blood is a highly dangerous substance.

Alex:
She has been studying the first page of the damned book for two days. She managed to change the language of the pages using her blood. She has stared at her family tree so many times that even I can remember the names of her ancestors.
She is immersed in the mission I gave her, determined to get rid of me as soon as possible but she is afraid to turn the first page and face whatever lies ahead. Ah, the little ironies of life.
Yolie:
There are moments in the life of a human being which are decisive. The day I was born, the day my parents died in a train accident, the day I graduated as a doctor, the day I woke up here in Greece...
And now I face this day. The day I finally got enough courage and turned the first page of the ancient Grimoire.
One would expect that such a paramount moment would be marked with a clap of thunder or that thousands of stars would fall fromm their place in the sky, that earth would stop spinning or something... But no. Not even an icy wind blew or a voice from beyond the grave was heard, only my breathing became ragged and my heart almost froze. Great turning points in the life of a human being are trifles to the universe.
The second page is written in fluid, legible handwriting with beautiful lines. It reads:
**If you have opened this book and are able to read these words, let me tell you that you are not just anyone, you are blood of my blood and magic of my magic, and you are in grave danger.**
*I already know that.*
**There is an immortal being who is looking for you to end your life for fear that, involuntarily, you will end the one which was given and there is another immortal being, whom I cursed millennia ago. The latter will seek you out for the wrong reasons and save your life for the right ones.
I warn you: Don't let your guard down against the former nor overly trust on the latter, both will rip your beating heart from your chest if allowed.
I've seen you. Before you were born I saw you, running barefoot along the shore of a beach, the second immortal following you with a demonic gleam in his eyes.**
*Would that be the first time Alex and I...on the beach?*
**You shall face your enemy very soon. ¡Beware! Don't yourself be blinded by the apparent noblesse, behind the beautiful hides an unchecked and wild evilness.
Don't permit he who is called Alexandros to drink of your blood and if he has already done so you must attempt to remain as distant of him as possible. It isn't convenient that an immortal drinks from a witch, this could have unsuspected consequences for you both.**
*¿Now you tell me?*
**Don't let yourself be swayed by his sweet words, your blood is especial for more than one reason and you are not who you think you are. You are much more than a mere human. You are the last of Clan Bruxa and at the same time you are also the first. You, whom are now reading these pages, are my heiress and my reincarnation.**
I close the book with a start. My hands sweat cold and I have goose flesh all over. In other times I’d be suffering a panic attack already, but recent happenings appear to have cured me that specific ailment.
If what's written in this thing is to be believed , I'm the reincarnation of the Sorceress who cursed Alex, which means there's more than one way of becoming a vampire and I’ve also been told I'll be face to face with whomever attempted to kill me, soon enough .
Well...At least I've been forewarned.
