Chapter 18: Lydia

Madilyn excused herself from the room momentarily leaving Lydia with her bridesmaids. As soon as she left, the bridesmaids confronted Lydia.

“So,” Megan said looking Lydia up and down, “You’re Drake’s newest toy.”

“I am his girlfriend.” Lydia responded, not liking Megan’s tone at all.

“Drake doesn’t date. Especially not anyone of your class.” Megan responded, her distaste for Lydia clear on her face.

“Maybe he wanted to break off from society snobs like you and actually date a woman with class.” Lydia replied haughtily.

“What did you just say to me?” Megan screeched, her voice rising.

“You heard me.” Lydia responded, noticing the reporters crowding around the door, trying to capture the events happening in the room.

“You bitch.” Megan snarled, throwing her drink in Lydia’s face.

“Takes one to know one,” Lydia replied, walking towards the door. “Oh and Meg, honey,” Lydia called stopping and turning to face the group of bridesmaids again, “ I really hope the camera crew caught that.” She smiled wickedly as Megan’s mouth dropped, walking out of the room.

Lydia ventured down the hall trying to recall where she’d seen the bathroom.

“I WASN’T THE ONE FUCKING HER ROBERT.” She heard Drake yell, causing her to stop by the door she had been passing by, wondering who Drake was talking about.

“How dare you insinuate something like that.” Robert yelled back, his voice rising almost the same octave as Drake’s.

“I’m not insinuating shit.” Drake responded, sounding angrier by the minute. “I saw you. I saw you with her the night you beat Sampson. What does hitting little boys turn you on father. Does it make you feel like a big bad man.” Drake sneered.

“Why you little bastard,” Robert hollered, a loud crash following.

“What the hell is going on in there?” Lydia wondered to herself.

“Unfortunately, I know who my father is.” Drake replied snidely, “Tell me, were you the father of Amelia’s child too?”

Lydia let out a small gasp, Amelia, as in Drake’s nanny Amelia? She wanted to stick around and continuing listening to the conversation, but she heard a noise down the hall, and saw Dianne making her towards Robert’s office. Lydia walked calmly past Robert’s office like she she hadn’t been eavesdropping on his conversation with Drake.

“Oh my god, Lydia.” Dianne hissed as they crossed paths. “You look horrid, are you trying to embarrass this family?”

“I’m sorry Dianne, one of society’s finest, thought it would be best if she emptied her drink on me.” Lydia replied wittily.

“Wait, what happened?” Came Drake’s voice from down the hall. He’d heard his mom voice say Lydia’s name, and left his father’s office to see what was going on.
‘It was nothing Drake,” Lydia responded. “I bumped into one of the bridesmaids and her drink spilt on me. I was in search of the facilities so I could clean myself up, but this manor is like a maze, and I got lost.”

“I see,” Drake responded, taking Lydia’s hand, “I’ll show you the way princess.”

Dianne pretend to gag, at Drake’s nickname for Lydia, “Please make sure she looks decent Drake, I will not have her tarnish the family’s reputation.”

“Oh shove it, Dianne,” Drake said, walking past her towards the restroom.

Drake opened the door, gesturing Lydia inside, before he followed behind her, locking the door. He then turned towards her, picking her up and placing her on the sink, standing between her legs.

“Why did you lie to me?” He asked a worried expression on his face, as he grabbed a hand towel and ran it in warm water.

“Because I didn’t want to worry you Drake, I heard your conversation with your father.” Lydia admitted, “You already have so much on your plate. I don’t need to add anymore.”

Drake raised the hand towel to Lydia’s face, and began gently blotting it trying not to smudge her makeup.

“What all did you hear?” Drake asked.

“I know your father was sleeping with the Nanny,” Lydia replied, “And I know you have suspicions about her child being his.”

Drake sighed, before he began to blot the towel on Lydia’s chest, trying to clean the remnants of the drink off Lydia’s dress. “That’s not all I am suspicious about,” Drake said quietly.

“What else is going on Drake,” Lydia asked, reaching out and grabbing his face, tilting his chin up so he was looking into her eyes, “You can open up to me, I am here to support you.”

Drake was quite for a moment and Lydia thought that was the end of their conversation, she started to push herself off the sink, but Drake, put his hands on her waist, keeping her there. “ I think he knows something about Amelia’s disappearance.” Drake answered in a hushed tone.

Lydia wanted to ask more, but before she could form a question, Drake spoke up again, “We can’t talk about this here. I promise I’ll tell you more later, Okay?” Lydia nodded her head, understanding Drake’s worry. If his father had in fact had something to do with Amelia’s disappearance, then they were in the Viper’s Den, and there could be spies everywhere.

“Oh and Lydia,” Drake responded, starring her directly into her eyes. “ I am never to busy for you darling.” He leaned in, placing a soft kiss on her lips, before picking her up off the counter and placing her gently on the floor, “There good as new.” Drake smiled down at Lydia.

She glanced at her reflection in the mirror, Drake had cleaned her up nicely, it didn’t even look like she’d had a drink thrown at her.

“Alright, ready to go see what Sampson’s big news is?” Drake asked extending his hand to Lydia, before unlocking the bathroom door.

“With you by my side Drake, I am ready for anything,” Lydia responded, causing Drake's mouth to lift up in a smile.
