Chapter 39: By Your Side

They didn’t make it past the porch on their house before Dex had his lips on her and her body pushed against the door. She thrummed and hummed at his touches. “Dex.”
“If I could make love to you constantly, I would.”
Her heart skipped a beat in her chest. How could she have chosen anything less than the look in Dex’s eyes? She was the only wolf on the planet. His eyes were gray with passion and she knew that if he touched him the right way, he would explode.
That was a lot of power and the universe had only given it to Lunas. Dex could do the same to her. One touch, one look, and she was on fire. Together their passion could burn down their house.
She reached behind her and opened the front door. “Let’s take this inside.”
The words came out shaky, not from fear, but from the powerful emotions she felt for Dex.
He loosened his grip and they tumbled into the house. He grabbed her hand and kissed it. “Emma. Will I ever get enough of you?”
“I certainly hope not.”
His laugh came out as much a growl as a sign of mirth. He kissed her again, as deeply as he’d done on the porch. “You have too many clothes on.”
He tugged off her shirt, then took off his own. Her bra fell to their feet next. She ran a hand down the hard planes to his abdomen that rippled at her touch. He pulled her to him and into a kiss that spoke of naughty things.
“Bedroom?”
“We’ve never done it on the couch,” he said.
He led her into the family room next to the kitchen. She was against the wall, his hand resting just above her head. His gaze bore straight down to her soul. If she hadn’t left her husband, she never would have experienced this kind of power. This kind of connection.
“I’m really proud of you, Emma.”
It wasn’t what she’d expected him to say.
“I want you to know that.”
How was that sexy? She was even more turned on by what he said.
His lips hovered over hers as he spoke. She bridged the distance between them wanting to have as much contact with him as possible. “Don’t tease me Dex.”
He smiled. “I’ve created a monster.”
“You like our lovemaking as much as I do.”
He snagged her hands and put them above her head. He then nipped at her neck, her body coming alive even more. She would explode. “Dex.”
“In due time, my little she-wolf.”
She needed release now. “Dex.”
A chuckle rumbled out of him. He let go of her hands and made quick work of her pants. He settled her let over his shoulder and ran a finger over her moist center. Her head fell back, her body arched when he replaced his finger with his tongue. She dug her nails into his shoulder, her wolf stirring and calling to his wolf.
She would have screamed his name, but he’d rendered her speechless as an orgasm overtook her. She spasmed and only remained standing because Dex had a hold of her.
He slid up her body, to capture her lips. “You undo me, Emma.”
Those words went straight to her core. She had the power to make or break Dex. She only wanted to make him. The power of that weakened her knees. If she’d only known just how it would be with Dex, she never would have left him. She never could have left him.
She put her hand on his cheek. “Dex.”
“I know, Emma. I know. This is powerful. It’s humbling that the right partner can be this important.”
She tugged at his belt then his pants were on the floor. His erection strained at his boxers and she let it loose. Words were inadequate. Only actions mattered right now.
She knelt down and took him into her mouth, licking and sucking.
“I want to come inside of you, Emma,” he said between gritted teeth.
She rose and he scooped her up, wrapping her legs around his waist. She clung to him as he entered her. She cried out as he began a rhythm that would only take them one way. Higher.
He kissed her neck finding that spot. Oh. Yes. That spot. He sped up and she was on her way again. They cried out at the same time.
She couldn’t have moved if she wanted to. Dex had her pressed against the wall. Their chest heaved. Their hearts beat to the same pulse. No one else existed at this moment.
Dex caught his breath. “Each time is better with you, Emma.”
She could only nod. He carried her to the couch and sat down, with her on his lap. He snagged a blanket and wrapped it around them. She rested her head on his shoulder. “How can it always be so good?”
“I guess I never have an off day.”
She laughed. Dex could always make her laugh. She pinched him lightly. “You think so highly of yourself.”
“I didn’t hear you complaining. In fact, I didn’t hear too many words at all.”
She giggled. “You weren’t coherent either.”
They fell into silence, a comfortable one. Emma marveled at how easily they’d come back together. As if no time had passed. But time had and they’d grown and as much as she wanted to regret their time apart, it might have made their coming back together even better.
They were both grown-ups now. No one could tell them what to do. No one needed to tell them what to do.
“I meant it when I said I was proud of you Emma. You’ve taken on the mantle of being a Luna for a motley crew. They don’t have any familial ties.”
“They are all here because they want to be Dex. Not because of tradition or anything else. It makes their bond stronger.”
“You’ve fit in so easily.”
“Your pack has accepted me so easily.”
“It’s our pack, Emma. They love you as a Luna. Almost as much as I do.”
She lifted her head to look at him. “Thank you, Dex. I’ve never been this happy.”
He held her face. “Sadly, I have to get back to work. There are decisions to be made. Pack business.”
“We should have Brutus and Leyton over for dinner.”
Something crossed Dex’s face, but it happened so quickly that Emma wasn’t sure she saw anything.
“I’ll mention it to him.”
“No. I’ll talk to Leyton. You wolves will mess it up.”
“I run a whole pack, Emma. I think I can make dinner plans.”
“No, actually you can’t. You’ll communicate in monosyllables and Leyton and I will be in the dark. They’ll be on our doorstep and I’ll have no idea they were coming.”
Dex snorted. “I am capable of organizing things. I do it all the time.”
Emma waved a hand. “Nope. Let Leyton and I sort it out.”
He frowned and hunched over his shoulders. “Fine.”
Emma laughed. “I’ve insulted you.”
“No. My ego isn’t that fragile.”
“Yes, it is.”
Dex let out a guffaw. “I am still your Alpha.”
She patted his shoulder. “Yes, Dex. You’re a big, bad wolf.”
He growled and nuzzled her neck. “You remember that.”
She laughed as he rose and put her on her feet. “What time will you be home?”
“Usual time.”
“Okay.”
He pulled on his clothing and then kissed her goodbye. Emma reveled in the mundane things that excited her. That her husband kissed her goodbye when he left. That he sent her a text sometimes during the day. The fact that he’d come to see her storytime. He made time for her. She wasn’t something he had to bear.
For the first time in her life, she wasn’t a burden to someone. She was an integral part of a relationship.
The idea of it took away her breath and brought her to her knees. Sitting on the front porch steps, watching Dex drive away, knowing he would hurry back to her as soon as he could, just filled her heart to bursting.
Life didn’t get better than this.
