Chapter 47: Wedding Plans
Leyton called Emma later that day. “We made up. Thank you for listening to me, Emma.”
“That’s what I’m here for. Not just as your Luna, but as your friend.”
“Brutus has been especially sweet to me since we patched things up.”
“He should be. What he did was wrong, but I’m glad you’ve forgiven him.”
“And you have for sure?”
Emma didn’t even need to think about it. “I have, Leyton.”
“Now you have a million decisions to make, Emma.”
“About what?”
“You’re wedding.”
Emma had put off thinking about it, but now she could. She was free and it filled her with joy. “Dex and I haven’t talked about it. It’s his wedding too. Let me get back to you.”
“You’ll have it in the clearing?”
“Yes unless it rains. Then the Grand Hall.”
“This is so exciting. This will be the pack’s first wedding. Everyone who is married came here that way. You’ll be giving us all a reason to celebrate.”
Emma laughed. “Good. I’m glad I can bring something positive to the pack.”
“You always do, Emma.”
Her friend’s response warmed her so much she was still feeling the buzz from it when Dex came home that night.
“What’s got you in such a good mood?” he asked standing on the porch in front of her.
She’d been reading wedding magazines when he arrived. She looked up at him. “Many things, but I spoke to Leyton today.”
“Brutus and Leyton are back together. Brutus took a half-day off today from pack business.”
“Leyton told me that I always bring something positive to the pack.”
He held out his hand to her then tugged her to her feet. “Did you doubt that?”
“Well, I’ve brought other wolves and war here.”
He frowned. “You’ve also become an amazing Luna to this pack. Everyone knows they can count on you. As for me, you’ve grounded me, Emma. I know that I’m not running this pack by myself.”
She smiled up at him. “You always know the right thing to say.”
“That’s because I pay attention,” he said.
Emma laughed. “The other reason Leyton called was to talk about the wedding.”
“It’s time, Emma. You’re free and we can marry anytime. I’d elope with you, but I don’t want to deny the pack a reason to celebrate.”
“Leyton said we’d be the first wedding for this pack.”
“I thought Brutus would be, but he hasn’t seen fit to propose to Leyton,” Dex said.
“Then we can’t elope.”
“You can have the exact wedding you want, Emma. As grand or as simple as you desire.”
“You’ll help?”
He grimaced. “Not really an Alpha thing, but ask me and I’ll try.”
“I know you have pack business to attend to so I’ll only ask if it’s important.”
“I will pick out what I wear and what Brutus wears.”
“He’ll be your best man?” she asked. “
“Yes. I think we need to put his betrayal behind us once and for all,” Dex said.
Emma nodded. “I agree.”
“I’ll ask him the next time I see him. Who will stand up for you?”
“Leyton of course.”
“Who will give you away?”
She frowned. “I guess I’ll have to think about that.”
With her estrangement from her parents, she didn’t have any other relatives she could ask. She shook herself. It was a minor detail right now.
“When?” he asked.”
“I need time.”
“Emma, you have Leyton and you can get a wedding planner,” he said. “Make some calls. You’re the Luna, here. They’ll drop other projects to accommodate you.”
“I don’t want to impose.”
“Impose. You deserve it and they’ll be happy to do it. It will be an honor to do something for our wedding.”
This Luna thing was still new to her, but she liked it. She liked being able to help and be a part of something. “Okay. First, my dress because that will take the longest.”
“Clearing or Grand Hall?”
“As much as I want to be outside when we say our vows, I think Grand Hall is a better choice.”
“Go for it.” His stomach rumbled.
She laughed. “I have buffalo stew in a pot. Let’s eat then I’ll call Leyton.”
She floated into the kitchen. She was finally going to marry Dex.”
When she contacted Leyton the next day they made plans.
“Clear your calendar,” Leyton said. “The next week is only about your wedding.”
“I can’t let down the pack.”
“Everyone will be involved, Emma. They’ll be happy for you and for us. We’ll have an official Luna now.”
Emma’s heart threatened to burst with pride.
She met Leyton at the bridal shop. Emma emerged from the dressing room wearing the third dress the salesperson had brought her. Leyton gasped. Emma stepped up to the mirror and she let out a little growl. She’d never seen herself look this good.
“You are s beautiful, Emma.”
“This is it. I don’t need to try anything else on.“ She turned to the salesperson. “I’ll take it.”
“We can get it to you in three weeks.”
“Then I’ll get married in three weeks.”
The rest of the day was filled with tasting cakes, choosing a menu, and decorations. When Emma arrived home, Dex was in the kitchen cooking. “Oh. I’m sorry.”
“For what?” he asked.
“I didn’t plan dinner. I was so wrapped up in wedding preparations.”
He kissed the tip of her now. “I am perfectly capable of cooking for us.”
“But you’re the Alpha.”
He shook his head. “Emma. Don’t ever feel as if you have to serve me. We’re partners here. Always remember that.”
She fell even further in love with him.
