The Missing Jewelry 3
Then, she reached out into the pockets of her trouser and brought out her phone. Under the stunned gazes of everyone, she dialed the police department.
"Hello. Is this 911? I'd like to make a complaint."
After reporting the necessary details to the police, Hailey disconnected the call. Then, she placed the phone back in her pockets and folded her arms.
There was a small smile at the corner of her lips as she lifted her head to look at the people in front of her. All of them had quietened upon hearing her call the cops.
In reality, none of them expected her to really call the cops. They thought she was just bluffing and wouldn't really do it. After all, it was an issue that concerned her sister's friends. She probably wouldn't want to make things go awry and make her sister lose face.
They all expected her to settle the matter amongst themselves and let bygones be bygones.
Ashley was the most dumbfounded. The reason she had been so daring to continue to arouse the argument was because she believed even if the jewelry was truly stolen by one of them, it wouldn't be as expensive as she claimed.
But since she dared to report the loss, it meant she hadn't lied about the price. If she was lying, she would be easily caught when the cops arrived with a jewelry curator.
As she stood quietly, Ashley was confused. If Hailey had such an expensive necklace in her custody, does that mean her father knows about it.
The Smith family business was based on jewels and gemstones accessories. It was a very large business and they were one of the top leading companies in the country. Hailey's father, Ronald Smith was currently the Chairman. It was founded by Hailey's mother, Talia and him.
If their father had an idea she had such a quality jewelry in hand, he'd have found a way to collect it. But since he didn't, then it meant he had no idea.
Suddenly, Ashley had a thought. Since their father doesn't, did it mean Hailey got a hold of it without permission.
Her eyes shone at the thought. She seemed to have found a new discovery.
Everyone stood around with their own thoughts. Just then, one of the girls grabbed her bag on the chair and slung it across her shoulder.
"Where are you going?" A Someone asked as she proceeded to walk towards the door.
"I can't stand such treatment." The girl replied with a snort. Her expression was arrogant as she walked forward. "How can she accuse us of being thieves?"
Her actions seemed to incite a realization in the minds of the others. They followed her lead and tried to leave too. The scene was chaotic and everyone seemed anxious. In the end only Neo and Ashley was standing around with no intention of leaving.
Hailey didn't say a word. She merely sat there watching their antics with folded arms.
Just as the group of people were about to leave through the door, they heard Hailey's clear voice sound from inside, "You can come in now."
They all had no chance to react as a crowd of people suddenly appeared at the door. They were all bodyguards of the Smith family. They were tall and heavily built and the expression on their faces was fierce.
They were more than ten in number and as they appeared at the door, the girls were immediately scared out of their wits and retreated into the room.
Soon, they were all back in the living room and the bodyguards stood at every corner of the room, blocking everyone's path of retreat. The girls shoulders were slumped in defeat and they began to question one another about who stole it.
When no one confessed to the crime, they all sprawled onto the floor, quietly waiting for the cops to arrive.
Hailey was more laidback though. She leaned into the sofa comfortably, her expression showing clearly that she wasn't to be trifled with.
She looked around. Her gaze was casual and indifferent but it seemed to burrow to into their hearts. Her gaze landed on the game pad on the floor where Neo left.
She smiled and pointed at it. "Who played this?"
The room was silent as everyone was currently sensitive and critical of their actions. So, the moment she talked, they all turned to look in Neo and his friend's direction.
Neo lifted a palm and said, "Me."
Hailey looked at him. Then, she turned to Ashley with a smile on her face. But, it seemed full of sheer mock no matter how one looked at it.
"Not only did you go into my room without permission, you rummaged my things and even gave my precious game pad to someone. You're so shameless."
Her words were harsh but no one dared to refute her. She was right. As guests, not only were they not mannered, they even trespassed their boundaries.
From start to end, Ashley couldn't comprehend what was happening. She had wanted to use the chance to humiliate Hailey but she ended up being humiliated instead.
She eyed Hailey carefully. Hailey was not like this before. She wasn't someone who would deal with such a matter calmly so she was easily manipulated by her. She didn't expect such a counter attack at all.
It was about ten minutes later, did the police arrived. Their siren blared loudly from outside scaring the girls so much that they began to scramble frantically.
As the housekeeper let them in and they entered the lining room, Hailey stood up to shake hands with them.
"Hello." She smiled politely. "Thank you for coming."
The cop who shook hands with her immediately shook his head and he looked around, seeing a lot of people in the room. "It's our duty, ma'am. I believe you're the one who made the theft report?"
Hailey nodded.
"You said your room was trespassed into and searched."
"Yes." Hailey replied as she gestures to the girls. "I believe these girls are the culprits."
