CHAPTER 14: UNEXPECTED GUESTS

Eva's POV

My eyes fluttered opened and I was momentarily disoriented.

This wasn't my room?

Where was I?

And suddenly all of last nights events came back to me. I groaned and pulled Gabriel's pillow over my head.

"Are you trying to smother yourself?" An amused voice said from the doorway. I pulled the pillow away from my face and glared at him.

"No! Now where's Gabriel?" I asked Gavin.

"Out getting breakfast for you" he said and I blushed.

Gabriel was getting breakfast for me?

"Why?" I asked and Gavin rolled his eyes.

"Why wouldn't he? He's your mate" he said in a 'duh' tone. I grinned sheepishly with scratching my neck.

"Oops" I said and he chuckled.

Suddenly the door bell rang. Gavin and I looked at each other with surprise on our faces.

"Who's that?" I asked him and he shook his head.

"I honestly don't know" he replied.



"Could it be Gabriel?" I asked and he shook his head.

"I don't think so, he left like 10 minutes ago" he said as we made our way to the front door. Gavin opened the front door and his mouth dropped open.

Curiously, I peaked over his shoulder and instantly regretted it.

Outside, stood a man and a pregnant woman with a grumpy looking 13 year old on the porch. When the woman saw Gavin, she squealed and engulfed him in a hug. He grunted and hugged the woman back. I stood awkwardly in the background.

"Hi Aunt Camille! Uncle Richard! What are you doing here?" He asked the man and the woman. They smiled at him while the little boy passed right by them and went to the living room. Gavin raised an eyebrow.

"What's his problem?" He asked his Aunt and Uncle. They rolled their eyes and sighed.

"Don't mind Kaden, he's just sad that we had to take him away from his mate for awhile" they said and my mouth dropped. Him? He has a mate? He's so young!

Gavin chuckled and the woman must have finally noticed me because she pushed him out of the way and smiled at me.

"Gavin, who's this beauty?" She asked and I blushed while sticking out my hand.

"Hi! I'm Evangeline Taylor, but you can call me Eva. I'm...um...Gabriel's bonder/mate person" I said and they chuckled. She squealed and pulled my hand to engulf me in a hug.

What's with this family and hugs?

When she pulled away, the man came up and hugged me too. I smiled at them and turned my attention back to the woman.

"Congratulations!" I said and she smiled while rubbing her stomach.

"Thank you sweetheart, but congratulate me when I finally get these two out" she said and I looked at her in surprise.

"Two?" I asked and she chuckled.



"Yes, twins. A boy and a girl" she said and I congratulated her again. She was about to say something when a sleepy Mrs. Green walked down the stairs.

"¿Qué pasa con todo este ruido! Gavin, te juro que si estás jugando otro de esos estúpidos Call of Duty juegos de nuevo, yo estoy a tierra!" (What's with all this noise! Gavin, I swear if you're playing another one if those stupid Call of Duty games again, I am going to ground you!) she threatened before she realized she wasn't alone. She squealed when she saw Camille.

"Oh My God! What are you doing here?" Mrs. Green asked and Camille laughed.

"Don't you remember? I called you a week ago and told you that we were stoping by!" Camille said and Mrs. Green gasped.

"It must have been the day Gabriel told me he found his Mate!" She said and Camille chuckled.

"I know how you feel! Imagine how I felt if suddenly your seven year old came home and told you that he found his mate on the first day of school!" Camille said and my mouth dropped open when Mrs. Green laughed.

"I remember that day! You called me on the verge of hysterics. You couldn't stop crying because you thought your baby boy would leave you" she said and Camille sniffed a little. Her husband rubbed her back soothingly. I quietly walked away from their little moment and made my way into the living room.

I sat across from a sulking teenager. He looked up at me for a moment before looking back at the tiles on the floor. I smiled sadly at him. He was adorable, with his chocolate brown hair and memorizing Emerald eyes. If I was his age, I could definitely see myself having a crush on him.

He fixed his grey beanie before looking at me again. I smiled and extended my hand.

"Hi! I'm Eva" I said and he looked at my hand before shaking it. We were engulfed in silence. "Um... what's yours?" I asked.

"Kaden" he mumbled.

"Well, Kaden. I know I don't know you that well but, I know that you have a mate just like me. Heck, I'm still new to all this mate stuff but I know from what Gabriel has told me, that you can't be away from your mate for long period of time without some sort of communication. Am I right?" I asked and he nodded his head hesitantly. "Now I'm just spit balling here but something tells me that your parents brought you up here without consulting you and when you talked back to them, they took away your cellphone?" I said and he looked at me in surprise.

"Are you psychic?" He asked in disbelief and I laughed.

"Nope" I said while popping the 'p'. "Just happen to be in the same predicament you are millions of times before" I said and he smiled a sad smile. "You miss her huh?" I asked and he nodded his head.

"With all my heart. It's like I'm missing a piece of myself that only she could fill" he said and his response made tears spring to my eyes. How could someone so young be in love? I thought about Gabriel and how happy he has made my life in the last week. I honestly think that I'm starting to fall in love with him.



Kaden's sigh brought me out of my thoughts.

"Okay, here's what we're going to do" I said while walking over to my purse on the kitchen floor. "I'm going to compromise and lend you my phone for right now, just until I leave. When I come back, I want to hear all about your special girl" I said and his eyes sparkled. "Deal?" I asked and he nodded his head enthusiastically.

"Why are you doing this? You barely know me?" He asked and I smiled.

"Because, I can't imagine what it would be like without Gabriel. I've barely known him for a week and I already can't stop thinking about him" I said and then added "Even if he is half wolf" I said and he laughed.

"We aren't half wolf, half human. We're 100% human and a 100% wolf. Our souls are the same" he said and I smiled.

"Gotcha" I said "Now hurry up and call your girl before I die of old age here!" I said and he chuckled.

"Thank you Eva, you don't know how much this means to me" he said and then surprised me with a hug. I laughed and hugged him back. For a 13 year old, he was already taller than me and had to bend down a little.

He took my phone and basically ran outside. I heard a deep chuckle from behind me and spun around so fast that I became a little dizzy. I blushed when I realized that I acted like a fool in front of Gabriel.

"He never talks to anyone when he visits us? How'd you manage that?" He said with a raised eyebrow. I blushed and looked away.

"What can I say! I have a way with teenagers" I said and he chuckled.

"So...?" He said awkwardly "you can't stop thinking about me?" He asked with a small smile. I groaned and covered my face with my hands.

How stupid could I be! I totally forgot that I was in a house full of wolves with supersonic hearing!

"How much did you hear?" I asked quietly

"Enough to know that you care about me" he said while pulling my hands of my face. He looked into my eyes and smiled. "No need to be embarrassed Love, I care about you too" he said while kissing my forehead.

"Now let's eat before I starve to death!" He said while pulling me towards the kitchen. I giggled.

Yep, I was definitely falling for him.
