Chapter Sixty-Nine

As a cover for my being awake so early, I decide to start making some breakfast as soon as the golden light of the dawn begins to stream into the townhouse, marking the morning has officially arrived. Though my cooking skills are nowhere near as good as Adrian’s I do know how to make an omelet. I gather my ingredients and begin cooking, expecting the aroma to reach him as soon as the eggs touch the oiled pan. As expected, a moment passes by and then the bedroom door opens, revealing a half-asleep Alpha with tousled hair from the night before. His torse remains naked since I’ve stolen his shirt, but he managed to find a pair of boxers to cover his weapons with, must to my dismay. He does nothing to hide his morning wood, though, as he makes his way down the stairs, raking a hand through his messy locks to try and make them more presentable.

“Morning, sleeping beauty,” I greet him, grinning over my shoulder as he enters the kitchen. He comes up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist to peer over my shoulder at what I’m cooking for breakfast. He shamelessly pokes me between my thighs with his erection, presses kisses into the crook of my neck.

“You’re up early,” He mumbles, resting his brow against my shoulder. “Breakfast smells good.”

I rub my butt against him, feeling his fingers brush against my thigh as they wander up the hem of his shirt, pausing when he realizes I don’t have any underwear beneath it. I shriek playfully as his hand wanders up even farther, grazing my belly and finding one of my breasts. “Didn't you get enough last night?” I snicker, looking up at him over my shoulder, giving him a vivacious jab in the ribcage with my elbow to try and push him away. “Go drink some water before you wither up and die.”

He smiles against my neck, grazing the soft skin with his teeth as he groans in protest. “I could have lasted all night, if you would have let me,” He complains like a child, remaining planted firmly behind me. At the mention of last night’s activities, he twitches against my upper thigh, presses against my more sensitive parts.

I grimace at the throbbing between my legs at his touch, trying to focus on folding the omelet without burning or breaking it. “You beat me up pretty good, already. I need a break for this morning, at least.” I admit, tossing him an apologetic look. As monstrous as he seemed in the woods after subduing Jasper, he’s even more of a beast in bed.

Adrian drops his hands and takes a respective step back, withdrawing his weapon from my holster. He steps to the side in order to look at me, his brow raised in concern. “Oh my god, did I hurt you?” He asks, eyes searching my exposed skin for injuries. “You should have told me, I would have stopped.”

I force a reassuring smile, reaching to touch his cheek with my free hand. “I’ll be fine, trust me. You’re just so massive that I’m still getting used to you. Now, hand me a plate before I burn your breakfast.”

Adrian still looks guilty, but he does as I ask and retrieves a plate from the cupboard and hands it off to me. “I’m sorry,” He insists again, eyes scouring the side of my face as I flip the omelet onto the plate. “You’re so tight too, that it doesn’t help.”

I press my lips together, placing the hot pan back on the stove to turn and look at him fully. “Please don’t talk about my vagina while you’re shirtless,” I ask him, eyes wandering to his exposed skin. The sunlight from the kitchen window illuminates him beautifully, making his melanated skin glow like he’s in a commercial. I glance back to his face, admiring the cut of his jawline as I try to refocus on what I was saying, finding it suddenly difficult to do.

Adrian’s brow quirks up and he sets the plate down, reaching to graze my thigh where the hem of his shirt falls. “It isn’t my fault that you aren’t wearing underwear. Besides, you’re wearing my shirt. What did you expect?”

I frown slightly, looking down at the white material. I glance back up at him again with a mischievous grin. “Would you like it back, then?”

Adrian sucks in a breath, the image of my naked body undoubtedly flashing before his eyes again. He presses his tongue against the inside of his cheek at my teasing, reaching to pull me closer by my waist, stopping when I’m inches away from his face. “Don’t tease me, Lydia,” He groans, his tone still gravelly from his sleep. He leans in as if to kiss me, but pauses when our noses touch and ease the spatula from my grasp, stepping away once he has custody of it.

Now standing alone by the sink, my jaw drops at the slick maneuver he just made. I turn to look at him in disbelief, slightly impressed. He takes my place at the stove and makes the next omelet, glancing at me innocently over his bare shoulder. God, even his back is nice. “How dare you,” I snicker, leaning back against the counter to admire my new vantage point.

“You worked so hard last night,” He says, sprinkling the toppings I’ve prepared and laid out into the pan. “You deserve a nice meal, so just relax and we can eat together in a few minutes.” He grins as I catch on to his back-handed compliment, rolling my eyes and turning to retrieve a bottle of water from the fridge.

“Whatever,” I mumble, cracking the bottle open and passing it off to him with a pointed look. “You’d better drink this whole thing, or else I’m withholding your coffee.”

Adrian accepts the bottle with a horrified look. “You wouldn’t,”

I narrow my eyes. “Don’t be so sure,” I threaten, trying to keep a straight face. We both crack into smiles and he drinks some of the water while I turn to start making some coffee for him. We eat our breakfast and clean up the mess of dishes that are left behind before heading upstairs to take a shower. We get dressed for the day and get ready to leave for our first lesson at nine am, something that I would usually argue is way too early in the day to begin functioning like a normal human. Except, I’m not exactly a normal human anymore, am I?
I smooth my hair into a half-up style and school my expression into something less serious. If Adrian can hide the fact that he almost killed Jasper last night in order to free him from his momentary Madness, then I can hide the magic that swirls inside of my bones. There’s something that we are both keeping secret from each other, which makes this feel a bit easier for me now. Now that I look fashionable enough to be seen in public, I grab my purse of choice for the day and make my way back downstairs.

Adrian is bent over the pile of things my double bought last night, sorting through one of the bags in curiosity. We were so distracted by our own hormones that neither of us had any time to look through the decor, leaving me equally as interested as he is. He picks out a box with the picture of a black and silver industrial style lamp, holding it up curiously to examine. “You really did buy a lot of stuff,” He remarks, glancing over at me as I come to join him.

I smile innocently, leaning over to see what I can through the bags without having to root through all of them. From the looks of it, my double went with a modern industrial theme, which I have to admit would suite the townhouse pretty well, without requiring much effort to change what is already here. “Oh yeah, I guess I did,” I agree with him. “I think it suits the place though, don’t you?” I ask hopefully, standing upright and adjusting the waistband of my black dress-pants.

Adrian sets the lamp down gently and reaches for my hand, turning towards the door. “I think you have good taste,” He affirms, leading me over to the garage door. “Do you want a drink to take with you?”

I take the keys from their hook beside the door and jangle them in his face, pushing my way past him to the garage. “Nope, I’m good today. Don’t forget to grab the school bag,” I remind him with a wink, heading into the cold garage to the driver’s side of my Mercedes. The snow has melted just enough that I feel more confident driving in it today. Besides, I could use a distraction from thinkin gabout the impending meeting with Jasper. I have to try to keep my cool when we run into him today, as if I have no knowledge of what happened to him. If Adrian can play dumb, then so can I.
