Chapter Forty Two
Staying in the tent as it poured rain, Jayme could see it begin to get darker as the sun began to set. She knew it would get extremely dark in the tent and in the forest. Walking outside, in the rain, Jayme went to the side of the tent where she pulled down her pants and relieved herself on the forest floor. Scott peeked around the corner to see her squatting and peeing. Knowing she wasn’t trying to escape, he went inside the tent.
As Jayme came back inside, she saw that Scott had zipped the two sleeping bags together. He assumed they would sleep together but she quickly grabbed the sleeping bags and began to unzip them. Scott grasped the sleeping bags and yanked them from her hand. “We’re leaving them together. It’ll be better for warmth.” Scott said.
Jayme knew he was right, but she no longer wanted to be anywhere near Scott. Especially while she slept. She no longer trusted him. She no longer loved him. “Fine, I’ll sleep on the floor.” She snarled.
“Only until you get cold, then you’ll climb into bed with me.” Scott said.
Jayme just looked at him as the light slowly closed off, becoming dark. Pulling the diaper bag over to her, she laid down, laying her head on the diaper bag. She knew Bella would be up in a few hours, wanting to eat.
Hearing Bella crying first, Jayme secondly heard the rain that was still pouring down on the tent. But now, it was thundering and lightning. She worried about a tree falling on their tent in the middle of the forest.
Climbing out of bed, Jayme grabbed the diaper bag and returned to Bella, who was laying on the floor, on several blankets so she wasn’t laying directly on the ground. Finding a flashlight in the diaper bag, Jayme turned it on and shined it on the roof of the tent, lighting it up enough for her to see to change and feed Bella.
As she sat, rocking and feeding Bella, Scott woke up with the light shining in the tent. He sat up and saw her feeding their daughter and smiled. “I love to watch you with our daughter. I believe you’re such a good mommy.” Scott said.
“Yeah, well, you’re not her father.” Jayme returned.
“What the hell do you mean, I’ m not her father?”
“Rex is her father. Her real father is dead, just like my husband.” Jayme said.
“I should slap you for that.” Scott’s voice carried anger. “How dare you say that. She’s my flesh and blood.”
“Maybe so, but I married Rex while we were in Hawaii. He’s my husband, and now, he’s Bella’s father.”
“I don’t think so. He can’t marry you, you’re my wife.” Scott argued.
“I buried you, remember? You were dead for what, six months? Legally, that is binding and it made me single. Well, I remarried.”
Scott slammed his hand down on the ground. “No! I don’t believe you.”
“Yes, it’s true. And Rex will find us, you’ll see. Or I’ll escape, again, with Bella. You can’t keep me here…” Jayme said.
“I made you fall in love with me once, I can do it again.” Scott said.
“No, Scott, that’s not going to happen. Can’t you understand? I love Rex now. My heart and my place is with Rex. And Bella's place.”
Jayme knew Scott was angry as he got up and stormed out of the tent. Outside, he was yelling, cussing out and threatening Rex. Returning back inside the tent, he was more calm. Jayme didn’t say another word to him, just sat and finished feeding Bella. Scott laid back down on his side of the sleeping bag.
When she was finished, she played with Bella, rocking her until she fell back asleep. Laying her on the stack of blankets beside the sleeping bags, Jayme laid on the other side of the sleeping bag. Moments later, she felt Scott turn over and put his arm around her. She could feel his breath on her neck just before he kissed her at the hairline behind her ear.
“Scott, stop…” Jayme said and scooted away from him.
Scott pulled her towards him, causing her to roll over on her back. Instantly, he climbed over her. “It’s been so long since we’ve made love, maybe then I can get your heart back.” Scott said, then kissed her neck.
Jayme tried to push him away, but she was pushing his entire weight and he was too heavy. Pushing through her strength, he leaned down and kissed her, pressing his body weight against her. “I still love you, Jayme. Please just give in to me, I don’t want to hurt you.” Scott said.
“No, stop.” Jayme said as she struggled beneath him. “I’ll never give in to you again.”
There wasn’t much she could do, he was larger and much stronger than her. Reaching down, Scott pulled on her pants, trying to pull them down. Leaning up, Scott grabbed the pant legs of the sweat pants she wore and yanked, pulling them down to her knees. Jayme sat up, trying to stop his attempt.
Scott yanked at her pants again, pulling them down, off her feet except the cuffs, which were around her ankles. He knew she wouldn’t be able to run efficiently. Pushing her back down, Scott climbed over her. Pushing down with his knee, he managed to get her legs apart and succeeded with his rape.
The cramping that Jayme felt only worsened when Scott raped her. She waited for him to finish, then rolled over and off of her. Jayme climbed off the sleeping bags and sat on the floor where she pushed her feet back through her pant legs, pulling them back on. She felt disgusted and violated, even though she used to enjoy his touch.
Unzipping the sleeping bag, Jayme didn’t care that Scott was telling her to stop. She told him to stop but he didn’t, neither will she. Scott shoved her hard enough to cause her to fall against the wall of the tent and bounce off the floor.
“Damn you, Scott.” Jayme said and went back to the sleeping bags, grabbing them and continuing to unzip them. “I said I’m not sleeping with you.”
“And I said you are.” Scott said and walked to her. Snapping a handcuff around her wrist, he snapped the other around his wrist. “You’re not going to be very far away from me.”
“Damn, Scott, who are you?” Jayme said.
“I’m the man you never knew about. The one with the dark side I’ve never showed you. Let me explain.” Scott started and sat on the sleeping bags, pulling Jayme down with him. “Jim was a business partner of mine, for five years. He accused me of stealing over seventy thousand dollars over the five years but it wasn’t me. It was Kelly. She bet it away between the casino’s and the race track. Lost it all within a few months. She claimed it was me and it only restored his suspicion of me. That was the time he thought Kelly and I were sleeping together. But it never happened It was never me, I did nothing to ruin his marriage. That was all Kelly’s doing.”
“And that’s why Jim murdered Kelly, because he thought she was having an affair with you?” Jayme clarified.
“Yes. But I think he also found some other information on her. Perhaps she was having an affair, with someone else.” Scott said. “Or she was into something else.”
“I don’t know anything about it.” Jayme said.
“To be honest, if I weren’t with you, I probably would’ve slept with her, married or not. She was a piece of work. Smart, funny and beautiful. She was fun, and she was young. She came on to me pretty strong a few times, that’s what leads me to believe she could’ve had an affair.” Scott said.
“But you never obliged anytime she came on to you?”
“Of course not. I had you, and I wasn’t about to lose you.” Scott said. “And I’m not about to now either.” He said.
“Sorry, Scott, but you lost me when you died.” Jayme said.
“No, don’t say that.”
“Why not, this, right here, this is the only way you’ll have me. By kidnapping me. I don’t want to be with you, Scott. Why can’t you understand that. You were a great guy, you could’ve had anyone.”
“But I don’t want anyone. I want you, the woman I married.” Scott said.
“Give it up. Let me go. If you really love me, let me go.”
“I can’t. Especially knowing that you’ll go back to that cop.”
“Yes. Yes I will. I love Rex.”
“Shut up.” Scott said, growing angry.
He laid down and crossed his arms, bringing her arm to him. Jayme didn’t say a word or try to regain her arm. She knew he was angry and she had said enough, for now. For hours he said nothing and Jayme knew he had fell asleep. Slowly, she tried bringing her arm back to her, but he woke up and pulled his arm back to him. Jayme fought with him to have her arm back.
Scott rolled over toward her which gave her the use of her arm back. Jayme rolled with her back to her, her arm behind her back. Closing her eyes, she let a few tears escape but didn’t want Scott to know she was crying. Drawing in a deep breath, she exhaled slowly, trying to release her anguish. Within a few minutes, she was asleep.
