Beata grinned without hesitation and linked arms with Aileen. "Let's work hard together and become colleagues."
Though she wasn't used to such enthusiasm, Aileen developed a liking for this carefree and playful girl.
She had always envied girls with such personalities.
If the first round was about theoretical knowledge, the second round was a battlefield – practical skills.
Most candidates were new to the job market, and while they could debate some theoretical knowledge, they had almost no practical experience, let alone dealing with the difficult task of European retro style.
Aileen didn't have much practical experience, but having spent many years in England, she was quite familiar with European style.
After leaving the Empire State Building, she breathed a sigh of relief.
"Aileen?"
Hearing someone call her, thinking it was another candidate, she turned around with a smile.
It was Cary and Angie. She didn't know if her surprise showed on her face. She didn't expect to encounter these two again, not after that meeting in the shopping mall in her previous life. They had disappeared from her life since then.
But she suddenly realized, of course, because shortly after that, she fell ill and didn't have this job interview in her present life. Her life's trajectory had changed.
"What are you doing here?" Angie acted bright and delicate, wearing a purple dress that showcased her attractive figure. When Aileen didn't respond, she elongated her "Oh."
With a teasing smile in her eyes, Angie said, "I heard from the HR lady that Cary's company is recruiting interns. You're not here for an internship interview, are you?"
This was Williams family's company...
Aileen's face froze, and she didn't recall that the Williams family had shares in the Empire State Building. The joy she felt a moment ago vanished instantly. If she knew this was the Williams family's company, she would never have come.
Seeing Aileen's uneasiness, Angie glanced at her outfit—a white shirt and a blue pencil skirt, a typical interview attire.
Looking surprised, Angie covered her mouth, raising her voice, "No way, are you really here for an internship interview?" The smile in her eyes grew stronger, hidden from Cary standing next to her but clearly visible to Aileen.
But her words were spoken with concern, "Cary, It's all your fault, Aileen came to the company for an interview, and you didn't know to notify the HR earlier, how can we all be friends."
After finishing her words, Angie playfully waved to the driver behind her. "Take the things upstairs first."
The driver carried luxury bags and briefly glanced at Aileen while passing by.
Cary's expression was complicated as he looked at Aileen. He felt guilty inside but couldn't say a word.
He knew that Aileen had admired him since childhood, but he had always treated her as a little sister and couldn't respond to her feelings. Later, her family went bankrupt, and due to pressure from her parents, they lost contact.
At that time, he thought that after some time passed and his parents' attitude softened, he would go back to find her. But not long after that, he received the news of her uncle and aunt's tragic death. After that, Aileen immigrated abroad, and they never reconnected.
Over the years, he had thought about what he could salvage, but the last time they met after four years of separation, her eyes were ice-cold. He knew she must have grown to hate him over time, and their friendship was irreparable.
She got married to a doctor, and that person was constantly in the tabloids. He couldn't help but blurt out, "Aileen, are you doing well lately?"
Aileen was pampered since childhood, never having to face hardships. Last time Geoffrey came to pick her up, their relationship seemed fine. He thought that man would take good care of her, but he didn't expect her to come for this job interview.
Understanding the pity in Cary's eyes, a chill surged through her heart. She wouldn't stoop so low as to be pitied by him, especially since he was one of the least qualified people to do so.
Aileen didn't think earning money by her own abilities was a shameful thing.
In the past, if faced with the gaze of the young man in front of her, she would have been weak and teary-eyed, wishing to pour out all her grievances.
But now, she was extremely disappointed in him, wishing to erase all memories of him. The last time they met, she could still maintain peace between them, but this time, if Angie wanted to create trouble, she would accompany her to the end.
Her gaze briefly passed Cary and landed on Angie with a cold expression. "I'm doing very well."
"Actually, it would have been enough to inform us about the job through a message. There was no need to come all the way here. But does Geoffrey know about this?"
"I've seen him in the news a lot lately. Is your marriage in trouble?"
Since she couldn't suppress Aileen last time, Angie had been holding a grudge for a long time. She just wanted to see Aileen struggle in pain. The more miserable she was, the happier Angie would feel.
Aileen didn't respond to her questions. "It turns out the Empire State Building belongs to the Williams family's business. I never expected it to develop so well. Back in the days, their family was an unknown small enterprise in New York. Because our fathers had good relations, my father also helped them in various ways."
But when her father fell into a trap and was imprisoned, the media maliciously reported on the matter, and the Williams family quickly distanced themselves from them, fearing the Taylor family would entangle them.
Hearing this, Cary beside her had a hint of dimness in his eyes.
"Unfortunately, he passed away early and couldn't witness the earth-shattering changes in the Williams family."
Aileen didn't look at Cary either and continued with a cold smile.
