Chapter 11
When I arrived, the hospital floor that held Logan was a mess. Doctors barked orders as they tried to knock him out with drugs, but he wouldn't let anyone close to him. Not even Red.
"V, thank goodness you're here." Melody said through pants. "He has gone mad."
"Stay here." An order. "I don't want you and the baby getting hurt. I'll take care of this."
"Okay." she agreed, wrapping her hands around her belly.
A string of colorful words escaped my lips when Logan flung Hannah across the hall like she was a doll. I went over to where she was and helped her up.
"Are you okay?"
She nodded. "I'm fine." She glanced at Logan. "I think that ichor has boosted his strength. He is unstoppable."
"Logan." I heard Red say, with tears drifting down her cheeks. "Logan, stop. Please. You're hurting everyone."
"Quiet!" he roared, shoving her aside when his eyes landed on me. "You," He pointed in my direction. "I've been waiting for you."
"Logan, calm down." I said, slowly advancing toward him. "You need to stop."
"You tried to kill me." He lunged at me, but I stepped to the side before he could hit me. When he regained his balance, he glared at me, his fists clenched and teeth gritted. Then he tried again, this time with a kick. I dodged it. I would not attack him. He wasn't in his right senses.
"Logan stop."
"Shut up." He did a spinning heel kick, hitting me in the face.
I stumbled backward. Barely giving me room to recover, he came at me with his elbow aimed for my head. He kicked my chest, and I stumbled back. I felt a warm liquid dribble down my nose and I sighed. Two beatings in one night.
"Logan, listen to me." I covered my face with my hands when he tried to punch me. "It wasn't me."
"Liar." He went lower, hitting my ribcage.
I doubled over from the pain.
"I'm not lying." I managed to say despite the pain in my chest area. From the corner of my eyes, I saw Carter, Hannah and Maya close in on him. I motioned for them to stay back. I didn't want them to hurt him.
"You hated me all this time." He kneed my face and I fell on one knee. "You pretended to love me."
"That isn't true." I said. "I care about you, Logan. You're family."
"Stop lying."
When he tried to kick me again, I grabbed his legs. I'd had enough.
"I said it wasn't me." I pushed him back and got to my feet.
"You are a filthy liar."
I saw fur start to come out of his skin. If I cannot knock him out before the shift is complete, he'd be more powerful. I wrapped my legs around his neck and flipped myself. He fell to the ground after hitting his head on the wall.
"Logan!" Red ran to her unconscious mate. "Logan."
"Doc, what's wrong with him?" I asked, "Why did he become so aggressive?"
The doctor in charge of Logan responded. "The beta female and gamma explained that there is a woman who resembles you. Our beta believes it is you who tried to kill him since it was your face he saw that night."
"Will he be fine?" Maya inquired.
Some nurses and a doctor lifted Logan from the floor and put him on a bed before wheeling him away. They'd probably strap him to the bed just in case he tries to attack anyone again.
"As long as the ichor is still in his bloodstream, I cannot say for sure that he will be fine."
"Who has ichor in their blood?"
Darn Mavros.
When the doctor saw everyone around me bow their head in respect, he too bowed. I didn't. The doctor lifted his head when Maya and the others did.
"Who has ichor in them?" Mavros repeated.
"Logan." I answered. "After Zariya attacked him, they found ichor in his blood. It is making him aggressive."
He visibly cringed when he saw the condition of my face. Logan really hit me hard. "Take me to him."
I saw questions in the doctor's eyes, yet he didn't voice them out. "This way."
We followed the doctor to the room they had kept Logan in. The nurses had strapped him to the bed and were injecting something into the IV. Red sat on a chair beside the bed, holding his hand. We watched as Mavros went to Logan and stared at him for the longest time before he began removing the bandage around Logan's neck.
"Sir, what-"
I stopped the doctor from taking another step forward. When he looked at me, I nodded once, telling him it was okay. Red stilled as she watched Mavros. I could tell she was scared for Logan.
After Mavros was done removing the bandage, Logan's wound was bare. It was unusual. It wasn't healing as fast as I thought it would.
"Can I get a scalpel?" He asked, his eyes fixed on the doctor.
"Sure." The doctor hurried out of the room.
Moments later, he returned with the scalpel and handed it to Mavros. Mavros carefully slit Logan's throat again, making sure to not cut any vein. As soon as blood poured from the wound, Mavros' eyes glowed a bright red, and the golden color of ichor began separating itself from Logan's blood. The ichor went into Mavros' body, and by the time he was done, Logan opened his eyes.
"Logan." Red squeezed Logan's hand. "You're awake."
"He just opened his eyes." Mavros informed her. "Your mate will not wake up for weeks."
"Weeks?" I and Red chorused.
He nodded. "Yes. The ichor has weakened him a lot and for him to recover, he has to rest. What flows in gods should not be in a mortal." He stepped back. "Take care of the wound. I've done what I can."
"Thank you." Red said.
He gave a smile in return. He then shifted his attention to me. "Val, I need to talk to you."
He went out of the room and I followed him. I was still annoyed and didn't want to talk to him.
"What do you want to talk about?" I asked, crossing my arms over my chest.
"You look awful." He said, gesturing to my face.
"You make me feel special." Sarcasm intended.
He sighed. "Let's get you cleaned up, okay?"
Without waiting for my response, he took my hand and led me to a nurse. A young woman, probably in her twenties. She was quick to act, and it made me think, 'being queen is awesome.' After she was done cleaning my wounds, I was left with reddish bruises—a reminder of what happened. I refused to mention the discomfort in my chest area. It would go away after some days.
"So, what do you want to talk about?" I questioned for the second time as we exited the hospital.
He didn't respond. Instead, he took my hand and disappeared like he always does. We were back in my room. He sat me on the bed and took the spot beside me.
"Give me a second to collect my thoughts." He said.
Moments later, he gazed into my eyes. "I'm sorry," he began. "It was insensitive of me to talk about another woman when I was with you. I shouldn't have done that. But I'm willing to make it up to you in any way you want. I'll do anything. Just don't be upset with me."
"Who says I'm upset?" I averted my eyes from his face.
"You walked out of the club." He reminded.
"I was tired."
"Sure you were."
I sighed. "Fine. Maybe I was a little upset. I followed you and all you could talk about was Luna."
He touched my chin. "I'm sorry."
"You said you'd do anything to make it up to me."
He nodded. "Anything."
"Get rid of Zariya. I cannot do what she wants and I can't have her harm the people I love."
"It won't be too easy. She's a spirit with ichor."
"I know." I said. "But please try whatever you can. If you can talk to the elder gods about her, it will be really nice. Maybe they can do something."
"My brother is on it already." He informed me. "In the meantime, you're stuck with me."
For some reason, I didn't mind being stuck with him. I was okay with it. I hated what this god was doing to me. Looking closely at him, I saw what made Zariya fall in love with a god in the first place. Both brothers had a charm to them, but I found myself falling for the man in front of me.
"You're staring." He cupped my face, staring right into my eyes.
I froze. The only thing I could hear was the sound of my racing heart.
"V, darling," he kissed my forehead. "What's wrong? Does anything hurt?"
It only made things worse.
"No." I replied when I found my voice.
He removed his hand. "Good. I was worried for a second."
Mavros, the god of destruction, was worried about me. Was there something I didn't know of? Why would he care about me to the extent of worrying about me?
"I'm fine." I assured him. "Will you be staying in the palace with me?"
He nodded. "Yes. I need to be around you and your family just in case Zariya returns."
I stood up. "Come with me then. I'll take you to your room."
"I can't stay with you?"
"No, you can't." I grasped his hand and he got up from my bed. "What will my family think?"
We left my room and to the guest room he would occupy during his stay here. It had everything he would need. A comfortable bed, television, game stations and a mini fridge. A typical boyish room that reminded me of my brother's room. Zayne's room was a no go area for anyone. I'd hate for someone to bring out something that belongs to him. The room held a lot of memory.
"This is your room." I said, looking at him to see if he liked it.
He arched a brow. "Green walls?"
"You don't like green?"
He turned to me. "Val, my name is Mavros."
"I know that." My face held confusion.
"I am a god of destruction."
"I know that, too."
"Then why the hell is the wall green?" he went over to the wall and stared at it in distaste. "Grey would have been better."
I fought the urge to roll my eyes. "How would I have known you'd be staying here?"
He spun. "I always have to do things myself."
"I'm guessing you're going to work your magic and change the colors."
"No." he sat on the bed. "I will not waste my strength on such a thing. You'll call someone to fix it."
I mock saluted him. "Yes, your destructiveness."
He gave a lopsided smile and inched closer to me before speaking. "Stay with me tonight."
"W-what?" I hated how my voice came out in a whisper. So, I repeated what I said, but with more confidence. "What do you mean, stay with you? This is your room."
"I know." He pushed back my hair that threatened to cover my eye. I would cut it soon. "And I'm asking you to stay with me. Just for tonight."
I pondered on his request. Nothing bad could come out of it. Maya saw him as a potential chosen mate and the others were neutral on my kind of relationship with him. No one had openly spoken against his coming here. They probably wouldn't now that they knew who he was.
"Just for tonight." I made sure he understood I meant it.
"Thanks."
He took off his jacket and tossed it across the room. His shoes and socks followed. I just stood, watching him. When his fingers found the hem of his white shirt, he paused and met my eyes.
"What?" I went around him and sat on the bed.
"Nothing." He removed his hands from his shirt and rested both hands on his waist. "I'd hate to make you uncomfortable."
I was impressed he thought of how I'd feel with him sharing a bed with him if he were shirtless. I guess he wasn't too insensitive. I bit back my smile and put on a front.
"It doesn't really matter."
Honestly, it didn't. Having a brother and male beta made me accustomed to having shirtless males around me.
"You don't have to lie." He went to the other side of the bed and lay down. "Behind that alpha female title is a young woman, just like many out there. Y'all think too much when a shirtless dude asks to stay in the same room. You think sex."
My cheeks went red from embarrassment. "I don't think sex."
"Then lie down." He patted the spot I was to occupy. "Come on."
"Give me a mi... AH!" I shrieked when I felt his hands snake around my waist and pull me down to the bed.
"Shh." He ran his fingers through my hair. "It's late. Go to sleep."
"I would have joined you." I said, trying to ignore the butterfly in my tummy from his touch.
"I am a little impatient sometimes."
I closed my eyes. "Little is an understatement."
Up until now, I did not know having someone touch your hair was such a divine feeling. It was amazing. It was something I'd like to be done before I go to bed. Mavros continued for minutes until sleep and exhaustion wrapped me in a cocoon. The last thing I felt were his lips touching my forehead in a delicate kiss.
