A Test

Thorne POV

"Can we drop Liv off at home first?" Brooke asks. She hangs onto my shoulder to whisper, "I don’t trust letting her go in an Uber alone; she’s a bit drunk, you know?"

I smile because Olivia isn’t the only one who’s overindulged in drinks.

"Let’s do that," I say, and Brooke turns around, smiling and giving a thumbs-up to the brunette. "Seth, you and Raffi go straight home, and we’ll meet you there."

"Alright, see you soon," he says and turns to inform Raffi of the change of plans.

"Hey!" Brooke calls, and he turns around. "Leaving without saying goodbye?"

"You’ll find me at home, Brooke."

"Oh, right. I forgot." The blonde gets on her tiptoes and kisses his cheek. "See you soon."

The two cars arrive at the same time. We usually use a private transport service when we visit Underworld to avoid the risk of leaving one of the cars behind if we drink. I ride with Brooke and Olivia; they chat and laugh until we reach the brunette’s address.

"Good night, Liv. Let’s plan to have coffee next week," Brooke says goodbye.

"Night, love you!" She’s already closing the door when she opens it again, sticking her head back into the car and pointing at the blonde. "Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do. Bye, Kyle!"

She closes the door, Brooke adjusts in her seat, and rests her head on my shoulder. In less than a minute, her breathing calms, and as I suspected, she’s asleep.

The drive to my house seems to take forever, and I’m getting a cramp in my arm from staying still for so long, but we finally arrive.

"Come on in, sir," I say to the driver as he turns off the car by the main gate. I lower my window, and one of the guards opens the way.

The car stops in front of the door, and I gently squeeze Brooke’s arm.

"Sunshine, we’re here."

"Hm?" she mumbles, rubbing her eyes and smearing black makeup around them.

"Let’s go inside; we’re home."

She nods and follows me out of the car.

"Oh, right. I live here now," she murmurs.

"Come on, I’ll show you your room. We’ll get your stuff tomorrow."

We cross the hall, and I guide Brooke up the stairs with a hand on the small of her back, to the second floor.

"Your room is the second door on the right," I say, opening the door. The room is decorated in a pastel blue with small waves near the baseboards.

"It’s beautiful, Ky! How had I never seen it before?"

"It wasn’t ready when you saw it the first time, and then I forgot, but it’s yours. Tomorrow, I’ll introduce you to all the guards, give you your security codes, and everything you need."

"Thank you." She turns to me with one of her radiant smiles, making her cheekbones stand out even more.

"Now it’s time for bed," I remind her.

"I always wondered what it would be like," she says distractedly.

"What?"

"To sleep with you." She walks into the room as if she hadn’t just dropped a bomb on me. And I’m used to dealing with bombs, damn it!

I’m left speechless, staring at her as she moves around the room and stops in front of the wardrobe, turning to me, alarmed.

"I don’t have any clean clothes, Ky."

I close my eyes, trying to clear my mind, which decided to show me exactly what it would be like to have Brooke, how I would feast between her legs before burying myself deep. "Stop this shit, damn it. It’s Brooke, your damn Sunshine!" I reprimand myself mentally.

"Go take a shower." I point to the bathroom in her suite. "When you’re done, there will be some clothes for you to sleep in."

"Okay, thanks, Ky."

I force my legs to move and leave the room. First, Raffi with that ridiculous talk about splitting up, and now Brooke with this revelation. I’m just an ordinary guy; there are limits even for me.

I grab a t-shirt and a pair of boxer briefs from my closet and return to her room. The damn girl left the door open, and I can hear the sound of the shower. I drop the clothes on the bed and get out as quickly as possible.

"Is this a test, God?" I murmur, looking at the ceiling of my room.

When I lie down, after taking a shower, I’m still thinking about what Brooke said, and I need to stop this, and soon. To begin with, she’s my Sunshine, my best friend, and besides, she must be more drunk than I thought. She just got out of a relationship and doesn’t know what she’s talking about, right? Right! But I can’t shake the feeling of pride knowing she’s sleeping with my clothes.
