Chapter 26 A Favor

**Valerie**
The closeness with Mr. Drakos made me tense especially we remained utterly silent on the way going downstairs. I tried to come up with some topics for a small talk so as to ease the awkwardness between us, but I finally gave up. There’s literally nothing I could “chat” on with either of the masters.
I didn’t care about what they wanted, and I supposed they didn’t wanted to know what I cared about as well.
It was out of my expectation that Mr. Drakos would have the mercy to save me from the wolves. And the favor I asked from him wasn’t just a whim. I was very skeptical of him, his presence and his intentions at this place.
Apparently, he was more powerful than any of the known creatures in the region.
I wouldn’t necessarily be suspicious if he hadn’t used the powers in front of me. Because no one else would be able to manipulate electronics, winds or fires, except the demons in myth.
Though I didn’t believe in Benjamin’s rambles on the demon hypothesis, I was pretty sure Mr. Drakos was neither a werewolf nor a vampire.
And this led to another crucial question, why had he been here?
If he wasn’t part of the wolf-vampire alliance, why would he be here, with the Alpha of Red Moon Pack and the offspring of Royal Lang family?
As I said, I didn’t believe he was a demon, but it’s not because I disbelieve the existence of this kind. I just didn’t think Mr. Drakos, in particular, would be one of the evil souls.
If the legend books were not pure jokes, demons, as far as I had read about, was mostly invisible. They were personifications of evilness, rising from the abyss. The only reason they would be interested in meddling with humans was out of bad intentions, feeding on vicious feelings like vengeance, hatreds or cupidity.
Though they might be happy to disrupt the world anytime, I could see no reason why they remained here, disguising as supernatural creatures.
That didn’t make any sense.
And the reason why I was so eager to figure this out was because I had a very bold assumption in my mind and the attack made me alert to my dangerous position now.
I needed to find a reliable protection.
And the best option would be Mr. Drakos, because I assumed that he wanted to find something behind the war just like me.
I had been pondering on this crazy idea for a couple of days, despite merely being a sixth sense without solid evidence, I believe there’s some rationalities in it.
The war and their alliance were the only connection between Lucas and Xavier, and it’s also the only reason I could conjecture about for Mr. Drakos’s stay.
Mr. Drakos brought me to one of the bedrooms.
Shortly glancing around, I was baffled to found it was actually Xavier’s room, as there were quite a few wolf photographs hanging on the wall.
Mr. Drakos put me on the bed and leant forward. I flinched back as he suddenly grabbed my left ankle, pulling me closer.
“Still hurts?” He frowned at me with a questioning face.
I gawped at him dumbly. Then I realized his was asking me about the shin.
As his finger softly brushed over my skin, I could felt no pain but a weird tingling feeling.
Shaking my head, I stuttered to stop him, “N…no. Mr. Drakos.”
He stopped and sat besides me, staring at me with those emotionless eyes.
“What do you want to know?” He asked, hand still on my ankle.
I gulped, not expecting he would so straightforward like this. Our eyes locked together in a stillness as I was hesitated about how to put it forward.
Mr. Drakos inhaled, as if losing his patience. He lifted up, hands in his pocket and said apathetically, “Look like you don’t want to ask anymore.”
“No…it’s not like that,” I hastily uttered. I was afraid of missing the opportunity.
He raised an eyebrow, waiting for me to continue.
“Please excuse me, Mr. Drakos.” I swallowed the lump in my throat to clear my voice and looked into his eyes in sincerity before asking, “I’m wondering what you are.”
I had an impulse to run away as his face turned severe abruptly. He squinted at me deeply through ice hooded orbs, scowling with a cold expression.
“Why do you ask?” After a long silence, he questioned.
Clenching my fist tightly, I took a deep breath, trying not to manifest my tenseness. I replied as calmly as I could, “Because I think I have a similar purpose with Mr. Drakos.”
He was stunned, a trace of astonishment flashing across his gorgeous face before his lips curled into a casual smile.
“That sounds interesting, Miss Davis. Why not tell me what it is.” His stare deepened as he bent over and smiled playfully, his face only inches with mine
The scent of smoke and cologne lingered closely around my nose, distracting my attentions.
Holding my breath, I dropped my eyelids and replied, “The war. Mr. Drakos. Both of us want to know its real cause.”
I heard a sharp inhale. Before I could understand what happened, Mr. Drakos pushed me onto the bed and climbed over my body. He buckled my wrists and kneeled on both sides of my thighs.
He smirked to me as he scanned my body coldly, “you think you are smart, do you, Miss Davis?”
I had no anticipation of his intensive reaction lie this. But that also validated my assumption that Mr. Drakos did care about the war.
“I don’t, Mr. Drakos.” I managed to speak with a steady voice, “that’s why I’m asking you.”
“Oh?” He narrowed his eyes and trailed his finger down from my wrist to the inner side of my forearm in a flirty way, “why do you think I would help you?”
My breaths became intense with the odd feelings he sent through my body.
“I’m not a benevolent man.” He puffed at my ear.
“B…but you saved me, Mr. Drakos,” I replied breathlessly, “Doesn’t it mean that I’m still useful to you?”
His movement suddenly stopped. Grabbing my jaw tightly to force me look at him, he said in an amused tone, “Useful? Tell me how? I have just done a favor for the Alpha of Red Moon.”
I bit my lip deeply and replied with all my courage, “I have something you may be interested.”
He frowned without a comment, so I continued, “something seemed to concern both Mr. Lang and Mr. Murphy. So I suppose it maybe useful to you as well, Mr. Drakos.”
He still didn’t say anything, as if waiting for my next move.
I trailed the hand he had released down to my waist and unlaced the sash. Before I was able to tug the hem and reveal the skin, he grabbed my wrist again abruptly and said sarcastically, “I’m not interested in your body, Miss Davis, I told you before.”
“No, I understand. Mr. Drakos, it’s not what I want show you.”
As he loosened the grip, I pulled up the dress and revealed my lower belly.
Gazing at Mr. Drakos, I could see his attention had been grasped by that red mark. Veins became visible on his neck as his chest heaved up and down.
“This is the thing I wanted to show you. I want to make a deal with you.” I said daringly.
