Chapter 33

It was late morning when Thalia finally woke, her body aching slightly and a weight pressed against her back. It took a few moments for sleep to clear her mind enough for Thalia to work out she was back at the caravan and weight across her back was Kade's arm holding her to him.

They had come back after making love again in the forest only to go at it again throughout the night until they were both exhausted. If Thalia wasn't already pregnant, she was certain that she would be by the time Kade was done with her. Not that she minded. The sex was mind blowing and Thalia found herself blushing at the thought of what they had done.

"Naughty thoughts already?" Kade's voice growled with amusement and sleep. "Who knew you'd be so insatiable?"

"I don't know what you're talking about." Thalia muttered, hiding her face.

"Your red cheeks tell me otherwise." Kade teased, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. "And as much as I would love a repeat of yesterday, we have somewhere to be."

"Where?" Thalia asked.

"The clinic so you can have a check up and then a surprise afterwards." Kade replied.

Thalia had forgotten Kade had offered to get her into a clinic so she could be checked out as well as check on the babies. It had been weeks since her last check, which had been when doctor McKinley had warned her to get out as soon as she could. A lot had happened since then and while she knew her babies were alive, she needed to know they were still healthy.

After showering and dressing, Kade led Thalia to the manager's office where the man from a few days before was waiting for them. Parked out front was a silver Toyota with the name of a rental company on the sides.

"Thanks for sorting this out, Henry." Kade greeted the man with a handshake and smile. "We will be gone most of the day. A package should be coming at some point for me as well."

"No worries. I will keep an eye out for it." Henry smiled before turning to Thalia. "Nice to see you again. Did you manage to get hold of Daniel Wolfe?"

"Oh," Thalia smiled shyly, ignoring Kade's raised eyebrow. "No but it's fine. Turns out it was a false alarm."

The pair said thanks again to the friendly human before heading to the car. The drive of the caravan park met with a wide empty road with a few signs indicating the national speed limit and that the next town (called Ingleton) was ten miles away. Other than that it was nothing but fields of sheep or cattle and the thick patches of trees that dotted the dales.

"Why were you trying to contact Daniel?" Kade asked curiously.

Thalia didn't answer immediately. How did she explain that she had gotten a bad feeling and so potentially risked her safety by trying to find Kade? It was bizarre enough that she had sensed when Kade had died and when he was brought back to life. Was it because of the mate bond? Kade hadn't marked her and yet she had been able to sense things about him.

"I was worried about you." Thalia finally explained. "I didn't hear from you for a few days and I...I don't know, I got this feeling something was wrong. I didn't actually speak with him, someone else picked up and told me you were…"

She left the rest unsaid, not wanting to delve into it too much. Kade was okay and that was all she cared about.

"How come you don't have any scars from being shot?" She asked.

"Not sure." Kade admitted. "I think it must be to do with the fact that magic was used. I have a small mark on the back of my leg from when I was shot a few days back."

"You were shot twice!?" Thalia gasped, looking at her mate with a mixture of shock and rage.

"Yeah but I'm fine. It's a long story which I will explain but right now let's just get to your appointment and make sure you and the babies are okay."

Thalia was okay with leaving the matter for now. The revelation had left a bitter taste in her mouth but it was a subject she knew waswas best for another time.

It wasn't long before they were pulling into a small car park between a church and a post office. Ingleton wasn't a massive place but there was something quaint about it and it had a clinic where Thalia could get a check up and not be asked too many questions. Kade had explained that the Hellhound pack healer, Simone, had pulled some favours. The nurse they were meeting was human but she knew about werewolves and could be trusted.

"Miss Georgiou?" The midwife greeted them with a smile, leading them to a room. "I'm going to just check your vitals and then we can take a look at the little one."

"There's two." Kade interjected. "Uh, two little ones?"

The nurse looked surprised by the revelation. It wasn't every day a parent knew they had twins without a check up.

"Are you certain?"

"We are." Thalia smiled sheepishly. "We can hear two heartbeats."

"Oh." The nurse looked stunned for a moment until realisation kicked in and she chuckled. "Yes, well in case let's see how your little ones are doing."

The check up was much less invasive than what Thalia had endured under Dante's care. Her blood pressure was taken as well as some bloods but aside from checking for any discomfort and how her general well-being was, that was it. Before long the nurse was setting up the cardiotocography and ultrasound machines.

"Now I know you can hear the heartbeats, I'm going to check that first anyway and send the readings to Simone to check." The nurse explained. "She will be able to read the results better than me based on your... physiology."

Thalia felt her heart flutter with nerves as she watched the nurse apply gel to her swollen belly. Kade's hand squeezing hers reassuringly helped the brunette settle as the nurse did her tests. Within moments the sound of two heartbeats filled the room and Thalia felt her eyes burn with tears.

"You were right, there are two heartbeats and if you were human I would say they are very strong and healthy." The nurse explained with a smile. "Shall we take a look and see how they're doing?"

It only took a few more minutes before a blurry grey image appeared on the small screen showing two tiny forms. The image was grainy but they were perfect as far as Thalia was concerned.

"Would you like to know the gender?"

"Yes." Thalia whispered eagerly.

"Both are boys." The nurse smiled. "Congratulations. You have two very healthy boys. They appear to be doing very well. I will send the results to Simone but from what I can tell they are both doing amazingly well."

"Boys?" Kade smiled softly at his mate, giving her hand a soft squeeze. "Guess we know what to shop for now, huh?"

"Yeah." Thalia smiled up at Kade.

Thalia didn't let her smile falter despite the worry burning in her. Yes she was happy to see her unborn children were doing well but how would others react to them? They had werewolf blood but they also had demon blood. What would that do to them? Would they be accepted by other werewolves? What if Kade's pack didn't welcome them as well as Kade claimed they would?

She forced the growing anxiety down as they finished up with the nurse and thanked her for help. She made it through the motions of smiling and saying goodbye, clutching the ultrasound scan they had given them.

"Thalia?" Kade interrupted Thalia's train of thought, drawing her attention to questioning eyes. "What's bothering you?"

"It's nothing." She gave a tight smile.

"It's not nothing." Kade pressed. "I can feel your worry through the bond so please tell me."

She let out a long breath, sinking down the car seat a bit more as she tried to pluck up the courage to speak without her voice breaking. She forced several cleansing breaths through her lungs until finally her thoughts settled into something more manageable.

“I worry that the twins won’t be accepted because of what they are.” She finally explained. “Because of what their father is. I never knew demons existed until I met Dante and I certainly didn’t know that a werewolf and demon could conceive. What if Dagmar is right? What if they hold the same darkness as their father? What if they are seen as abominations?”

Kade sighed softly, taking one of Thalia’s delicate hands in his much larger one. “I can assure you, the Hellhounds will not see your children as abominations.” Kade assured her. “And I don’t know what to expect either but with you as their mother, they will grow to be strong and good. The pack will help you to raise them to know right from wrong. And…” He paused, feeling oddly awkward about being so open and honest. “I will be there too. They’re not my blood but you are my mate and their mother. I will be as good of a father as I can be to them. I will treat them as if they are my own, I promise.”

Thalia couldn’t say all her fears and worries were quashed there and then but she felt some relief wash through her. She had known from the moment she laid eyes on Kade that he was a good male despite all the skeletons in his closet and how lowly he thought of himself. He had never let that darkness near Thalia though even when she could see it was haunting him. Eventually she hoped he would open up to her but then again, she had her own nightmares that she wasn’t ready to expose and Kade seemed to understand that. Perhaps that was why the Moon Goddess paired them together…

“Come on, let’s go do something fun.” Kade broke the silence, flashing one of his signature smiles and kissing Thalia’s knuckles. “I’m pretty sure you’ll love it.”

“Is this a date?” Thalia raised an eyebrow curiously.

“Um…Yeah I think you could say that.” Kade nodded and started the engine.
