Chapter 56

**One month later**

Adapting to life in a pack again, especially one that Thalia had never been a part of before, was a lot easier than she thought it would be. True to everything Kade, Daniel and Eva told her, the pack had welcomed her with open arms and didn't once cast her a judging look or a pitying glance when they learned of what she had endured. They even seemed okay with the fact her children weren't Kade's offspring or that they had demon blood in them. The pack regarded them as pups and asked her the usual questions a mothers-to-be endured.

The Indian summer brought cooler nights but sun drenched days which the pack's pups were keen to enjoy by running through sprinklers or playing in the long grass that filled the meadows around them.

The Pack's doctor, a woman by the name of Simone, insisted on regular check ups to make sure Thalia was doing okay and ensure there were no complications. Between that and spending time with Eva, Thalia had very little time to dwell. In the evenings Kade found plenty of ways to keep her distracted as well. Most usually ended in them both naked and tangled in their bed sheets.

One thing Thalia had found herself gravitating towards was the kitchen. It wasn't like omegas needed help with anything. They were an extraordinary unit that exuded maternal love and an endless stream of energy despite some of them being in their eighties. However, whenever the kitchen was free Thalia would pull on an apron and spend time making some of her old favourites. "Should you be on your feet?"

Thalia had just put a tiramisu into the fridge when Kade's voice interrupted her reverie. The male was leaning against the doorframe, his nose a soft shade of pink from being in the sun for too long and his hair a mess, just the way Thalia liked it.

"I've not been here for long." Thalia replied, smiling at her male with love. "I need something to do while you leave me all on my own all day."

"You could read a book." Kade smirked, taking slow deliberate steps towards the pregnant female. "Or watch a movie

"I can't read." Thalia replied as she played along. "And I don't understand English."

"Oh really?" Kade grinned, raising his eyebrow as his arms snaked around his cheeky mate.

"Really." Thalia smiled with mock innocence, looking up adoringly at her male.

"I guess that means you don't know what 'I love you' means, then?" Kade kissed her briefly.

"I think I've heard this one before." Thalia murmured. "Say it again for me."

"I love you." He muttered before pressing another kiss to Thalia's mouth before dipping his head to kiss the mark on her neck. "I love you."

"Hm, I love you too." She smiled, tilting her head back so Kade had more access to the tender flesh on her throat.

"I have a surprise for you." Kade murmured between lazy kisses to Thalia's neck.

"What is it?" Thalia asked curiously.

"I will have to show you." Kade pulled back reluctantly and moved so he could take Thalia's hand. "Come on. I think you're going to like it."

Curiosity truly peaked, Thalia let Kade lead her from the kitchen. She was expecting for him to lead her to their bedroom so was surprised when they bypassed the stairs and headed for the front door.

Evening was slowly creeping in. The sun had sunk somewhat in the sky becoming orange and cold while the trees and houses cast long shadows across the street and fields. Most of the houses had their doors still open with sounds of life filtering out like music. Kade didn't stop here though but instead carried on until they reached the end of the street before turning onto a dirt track. A small cluster of trees lined the track, hiding what was at the end from sight. They swayed in the light evening breeze, their leaves fluttered as if waving hello to the couple.

"Where are we going?" Thalia asked as she followed her mate.

"You'll see." Kade smiled mischievously. "It's not much further."

The sun had dipped by now and twilight had crept in. The track might have been hazardous to navigate if it weren't for supernatural sight and the warm glow of lights up ahead.

Kade wasn't wrong when he said it wouldn't be much further and Thalia's mouth fell open as they entered the front garden of a house. The lights were on in the property as well as being dotted around the garden. There were freshly dug beds neatly lined up on either side of the garden path and a couple of acer trees sat in one corner of the garden. The rest was freshly cut grass that looked as soft as a plush carpet. Behind the house, the pack's territory spread out as far as the eye could see. There was privacy here as well as being close enough to be part of the community.

"What is this place?" Thalia asked, unable to take her eyes off the large house.

"The old beta residence." Kade replied. "It's not been used in about forty years so it needed some work but now it's ours."

"Ours?" Thalia finally managed to look at Kade finally.

"Yeah. It's a place for us to raise our family and hopefully grow old together." Kade shrugged.

For the first time Kade looked bashful but also hopeful. His silver eyes shimmered with emotion, telling Thalia just how in love he was with her to the point that he was ready to give his life to making her happy.

"Let me show you inside." Kade broke the silence, guiding the pregnant woman up the path.

The house was indeed large. Two bay windows sat on either side of the French blue door. Thalia couldn't guess the age of the house with its sandy coloured bricks and white flashings. It was clearly an old building but someone had taken care to clean, repair and paint so now it looked almost brand new.

"You did all of this? Is that what you've been up to for the past month?" Thalia couldn't hide her amazement.

"Yeah. Well, I had help." Kade chuckled as he opened the door to guide them inside.

The front door opened onto a hallway with dark hardwood floors and clean, freshly painted walls. Two doors, one on the left and one on the right, led to two rooms that look almost similar in size with fireplaces on the adjacent walls. Ahead, a set of stairs sat next to the wall on the left while the hallways continued past it, disappearing past another door.

Thalia had barely seen any of it but she was already in love with the house. It was a blank canvas. Something for them to turn into a home with their own memories. She didn’t need to ask Kade to know that was what he had thought as well. The pride in his eyes was evident as well.

“Come on,” Kade motioned to follow the hallways towards the back of the house. “I think you’re going to like this.”

They headed back, Thalia’s brown eyes feasting on every little detail around her before settling on the large living room with its panoramic views of the dales. The countryside was right at their doorstep and Thalia could already see her and Kade curled up on the couch with the fire going whilst watching the snow falling outside. She could see them surrounded by their friends. She could see the family she hoped to have with Kade playing with their toys or letting Thalia read them a bedtime story.

“Oh Billy, it’s beautiful!” Thalia gasped, wandering into the empty space to take in everything. “And so big!”

“Well I don’t think the guest room is big enough for us and the twins.” Kade shrugged. “But also, I wanted us to have a home. I wanted somewhere we can call our own.”

“I love it.” Thalia smiled, pulling Kade to her so she could kiss him gently. “And I love you too.”

“Well if you love me now, wait until you see the master bedroom.” Kade replied with a mischievous grin.

In total there were five bedrooms, two of which had ensuite bathrooms. The master bedroom dominated the back right corner of the house allowing it to share the same impressive views of the countryside as the living room had. Thalia could imagine watching the sunset from here, tangled in their bedsheets and wrapped in Kade’s arms. There was a smaller window near the ensuite which had a window seat. Someone had already fitted a cushioned section as well as if they knew this would be the perfect spot to sit and dream away the hours.

“So, I was thinking about the bed here.” Kade motioned to the space opposite the large windows. “Maybe a couch and a TV by the windows or I could see about fitting another window seat in. The fireplaces are all operational but there are radiators as well. Also the door had a lock on it.”

“Why does the bedroom door have a lock on it?” Thalia asked in amusement.

“Well mate of mine,” Kade smirked and pulled Thalia into him, hands roaming freely until they found the juicy globes of her backside. “So that we don’t get interrupted by the children and the dogs.”
