Chapter 9 Get My Ex Here

Regina’s POV
The words “Shadow Valley” made me sway on my spot.
What were people from Shadow Valley doing here? Did Nigel send them? Were they here to capture me back?
But they couldn’t. Nigel didn’t know anything about who I really was. Unless…Unless he had found that out?
“Regina.”
A large hand grabbed my shoulder and helped me regain my balance.
Gray looked down at me with a serious look on his face, “Don’t worry. Nobody can force you to do anything. You are home.”
I stared back at him in a daze and gradually breathed out.
He was right. This was Ever Moon Pack. Gray was the Alpha here. No one could force me to do anything I didn’t like.
“You should go back to your room and have some rests,” Gray gently pushed a lock of hair out of my face and smiled. “How about we meet again for dinner?”
I clenched my fists plucking up my courage and said, “No. I…I want to come with you.”
“To meet the messenger from Shadow Valley?” Gray frowned, “I don’t think you will like what that person have got to say.”
“I probably won’t like it. But I need to know what they want,” I shook my brother’s hand and begged. “Please, just let me tag along.”
Gray could never resist me if I begged hard enough. So he bent.
He took me back to the counseling chamber and asked me to stay in the inner room.
“I’ll leave the door a crack. So you can overhear us,” Gray said to me. “Don’t come out here…I don’t want you to meet those scumbags.”
I smiled and patted his shoulder. His muscle was strained, and his face was deadpan. I could tell that he was in stress. Was he afraid of losing me again?
“Don’t worry, Gray. I won’t go anywhere else. I will stay right here, behind this door.”
Gray stared at me and the anxious look on his face finally started to disappear. Pulling me over for one last peck on my forehead, he turned around and headed towards his throne.
A short moment later, the sound of door opening up came and the guard announced, “—The messenger from Shadow Valley Pack!”
I held my breath behind the doors and then heard a man’s voice saying, “Greeting Alpha Gray. I am so honored to be here.”
Wait a second…that man’s voice sounded familiar.
I must have heard it somewhere else before.
Carefully leaning towards the crack between doors, I tilted my head and peeked outside.
A middle-aged man was standing in the middle of the room with a flattering smile on his round face. The last time I saw him, he had drunken rosy cheek and seemed much less humbling—
I recognized him almost immediately.
This was the man whom Nigel tried to have me sleep with!
His name…was Officer Gavin!
A chill was sent down my spine and I staggered sideways, causing the door to make a squeaky sound.
Gavin must have heard that squeaky noise and he started looking at my direction. But Gray’s cold voice came the next second:
“What brings you here? I didn’t remember summoning anyone from Shadow Valley Pack.”
Gray used the word “summon,” which could be considered as a huge offense.
Because there were no real King in our world.
All Alphas and all packs were equal, theoretically.
But there were a few packs that were exceptionally large and powerful, like us Ever Moon Pack in the north and Long Howl Pack in the south. Other smaller packs surrounded us and depended on our helps when there was a rogue attack or food shortage.
Shadow Valley was tiny and weak compared to us.
So naturally, Officer Gavin was in no position to question Gray’s rude word choice. He kept that flattering smile on his face and answered:
“My deepest apology, Alpha Gray, for our disturbance. Actually, my Alpha sent me here. He heard that you were at the boarder a few days ago and he was wondering if there was anything emergent that brought you there…”
Right.
I bit my lips and thought.
Gray was there to meet with me a few days ago. Although he and his soldiers didn’t cross the border, they did engage with Nigel and Angel shortly.
It was natural for the Alpha of Shadow Valley to be afraid.
Gray let out a cold snort.
“Is your Alpha afraid that I might invade you?” he asked Gavin in a sarcastic voice, “If that is truly what I want, there will be nothing to stop me. Getting on your knees and begging me won’t help either.”
Officer Gavin seemed horrified.
“No. No. We wouldn’t dare to make such an…outrageous presumption.” Gavin waved his hands like crazy and said, “Shadow Valley is Ever Moon Pack’s most loyal friend. We are willing to do anything to assist you, Alpha Gray. Please, don’t question our loyalty.”
Gavin seemed extremely humble now.
I could literally see his legs shaking as though he would get down on his knees in front of Gray the next second. He was truly in fear.
But he wasn’t like this when he was with Nigel. The last time I met him, he was arrogant and acted like a total jerk, yelling at Nigel and urging Nigel to give me to him.
I guessed power could really alter a person’s personality.
Gray didn’t say anything to Gavin’s loyalty declaration. He gracefully leant back in his throne and looked down at Gavin as though looking at a piece of trash.
“Fine. If you must know what I was doing by the boarder…” Gray said with an aloof and nonchalant voice, “I was patrolling with my guards. But we encountered a young lady, who asked for our help. She said that your people were hunting her. It shocked me. Why were your people hunting an innocent girl like her?”
I held my breath in uneasiness.
Gray wanted to take this chance to interrogate Gavin!
He didn’t believe me when I said I was doing alright in Shadow Valley Pack. And since he couldn’t get any truth out of me, he turned toward Gavin.
“Innocent?” Gavin suddenly gasped, “Oh my great Alpha, you must have been fooled by that cunning little bitch—”
“Bitch?” Gray’s voice turned cold almost instantly.
Yet Gavin still hadn’t sensed that danger was looming, and he was still yapping, “Yes, little bitch! That girl was an escaped slave from our pack. I bet she was trying to skip house chores her master assigned to her. That day, her master Nigel and Miss Angel were chasing her together and she accidently got into your territory. Please, Alpha Gray, give her back to us and let us serve her with the righteous punishment—”
A sudden, deafening wolf growl interrupted Gavin.
Gray had stood up abruptly, glaring down at Gavin. His handsome face with fury. His emerald, green eyes were getting a darker shade because of rage. And his wolf fangs were threatening to appear.
He was on the verge of shifting!
His back was arched slightly as though he would lunge at Gavin the next second and tear this messenger’s throat open!
“Slave? You called her a SLAVE?!”
Gray roared, a vein popping out on his forehead. “You filthy scumbags—HOW DARE YOU!”
Gavin winded her eyes and took a shaky step back. He tripped himself and fell on the floor, shivering from head to toe.
“A—Alpha Gray…I don’t understand…” he stammered in horror, seeming as though he was going to shit his pants the next second. “W—What happened? There must be some sort of misunderstanding…”
Yet Gavin never got a chance to finish. Because Gray had dashed to him in long strides and grabbed him by his throat, picking him up from the ground.
That Gavin must weigh like 200 pounds but Gray had no trouble lifting him up in the air with one hand.
That iron grip around Gavin’s neck tightened. I could see Gavin’s face turning purple due to the lack of air and his legs kicking vainly in the air…
“STOP!”
I cried urgently and stormed out of the room.
“Go back in there!” Gray turned his face a little and snapped at me, “I’m killing this fucking bastard today!”
Yet I didn’t listen. I rushed over and put a hand on his bulging bicep, “Gray—I said—PUT HIM DOWN!”
Gray’s jaw tightened. Then his grip finally loosened, and he tossed Gavin back on the ground.
Gavin collapsed on the floor, coughing and shivering. When he finally looked up at me, his face turned pale at once.
“Y—You!” he pointed at me and cried as though seeing a ghost. “It was you! How did you win over Alpha Gray’s trust? You little b—”
“You better not say the b word again.” I said with a cool voice, “If it wasn’t for me, you would be died by now.”
Gavin shut his mouth urgently. But he was still glaring at me in disbelief.
I felt a bitter and bleak feeling rose in me and I said with a low voice, “So Nigel told everyone I was his slave, hum? Well then, if he wants to get his slave back, at least he should come here in person.”
