Chapter 12

“Sam, what are you doing here?” I asked incredulously, looking at my parents nervously, knowing that I told Sam I was leaving today.
“I needed to see you before you left for good. I am glad I caught you! I thought you was moving away today?” he breathed sexily, before walking towards me and pulling me in for a big hug.
Deep inside me, I could hear my wolf growling in disapproval. Sniffing deeply, I could smell his aftershave through his bike leathers, and I could feel myself beginning to get hungry for Sam’s touch. Pulling away, I looked up at Sam and smiled gently.
“I’ve delayed it for a week so that I could attend the end of year prom with you,” I replied, smiling. “Let’s go upstairs so we can talk, yeah?”
Glancing at my parents out of the corner of my eye, I grabbed Sam’s hand and pulled him back out into the hallway and up the stairs towards my room. Sighing, I sat on the bed and watched as Sam dumped his jacket onto the floor and sat down beside me. Smiling gently, he carefully stroked the side of my face before swiping away a stray strand of hair.
“Do you really have to go babe?” he asked sadly. “Can’t you just reconsider my offer? Move in with me! I can give you the world!”
“I really can’t. I have to go back and take my place within this family,” I replied slowly. “Just trust me that I know what I am doing okay? I’ll come back and see you often, I promise.”
“Your place? You’re not really moving into the forests are you?” Sam asked slowly, staring down at the floor glumly.
“No. No I’m not,” I stuttered quickly, trying to think of something to say. “I’m moving a couple states away. I didn’t want to tell you before, but I found out that I come from an extremely wealthy family that have their hands in the right pies, let’s just say. It’s time I went back and lived the life that awaits me.”
“What do you mean, a wealthy family?” Sam asked disbelievingly, looking back up at me. “What like a royal family or something?”
“Something like that. My family, it turns out, comes from a long line of Dukes and Duchesses apparently,” I lied quickly. “A wealthy privileged life awaits me. My parents took me away from all of that when I was a baby to give me a normal upbringing.”
“Well, you won’t want me then will you. I expect you will be married off to some pompous Duke before the year is up!” Sam replied stiffly, beginning to stand up.
Pushing him back towards the bed, I gently straddled him and leant down to kiss him on the lips. “I will always want you, deep in my heart. Just remember that!”
Just as my lips touched Sam’s, my wolf once more growled in warning. From outside, another loud growl echoed out, making me jump.
“Wait, did you hear that growl,” Sam asked, sitting up and looking towards the window in shock.
Getting up, I walked over to the window and looked outside. Hiding in the bushes at the bottom of my garden was two large wolves, with their thick shaggy fur standing up on end and their long-pointed fangs bared menacingly. I knew it wasn’t my parents or Jace, so who could they be? Probably a couple of Alpha Julian’s henchmen I thought to myself. Slamming the window shut, I turned around to Sam and smiled broadly.
“Not sure what you are on about. I didn’t hear anything and there’s nothing out there. Look, I’ve got stuff that I need to sort out here and sort out for the prom, so I’ll catch up with you then. If it means that much to you, I’ll ask if I can bring you with me!” I said, wrapping my arms around Sam once more.
“You would do that?” Sam asked gently, embracing me once more. “Rosalie, I love you!”
“I love you too!” I replied, feeling the bitter pang of guilt ripping through me once more. “But if they say no, then we will just have to enter a long-distance relationship!”
“I don’t know if I could do that though?” Sam replied slowly. “It already feels like I am losing you!”
Sighing, I placed my hand on Sam’s arm and thought about the packhouse, the wolves and Jace. I knew I had to finish it with Sam, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. It was cruel of me really, to carry this on longer than it needed. But Sam was my best friend. No matter what, I would always love him and it would never be enough. Jace was the centre of my gravity now. Making a vow to myself to end it on prom night, I stood back up and smiled gently.
“Everything will be okay! You will see!”
Making my way back towards the hallway, I heard Sam following and quickly, we made our way back downstairs into the kitchen, to see Mum peering out of the kitchen window. As we entered the kitchen, my Mum jumped in shock and quickly went to sit down at the table with my Dad.
“Is everything okay Mrs Nelson?” Sam asked quizzically.
“Yes, everything is fine. I thought I just heard a noise, but I must have been imagining things. Is, everything okay with you two?” she replied, looking across at me and then back at Sam curiously.
“Yes, everything is fine. There’s something I need to discuss with you both later anyway,” I replied, looking across at Sam who smiled gently.
“What’s that?” my Dad asked, looking at us both curiously.
“Erm, I was going to ask if Sam could come with us, to our new family?” I squeaked quietly, closing my eyes nervously. I knew what the answer was going to be.
“Rosalie! You know that’s not even possible!” my Dad warned, glaring at me. “I’m sorry but it just wouldn’t be allowed to happen! And it’s not even up for discussion!”
Looking across at Sam, I saw him staring mulishly down at the floor. Sighing, he looked up at me and smiled gently, before planting a kiss on my head and making his way towards the front door.
“It’s okay Ros, it’s not your fault. I will fight for you and we will be together again. No one will stop us being together! I will fight for you, until your heart stops beating!””
