Chapter 12

{{ Thomas' POV 😕 }}
Thomas adjusted his tie for the fifteenth time as he strode down the velvet carpet to the mansion's lavish dining room.
It wasn’t long before he reached the tall, intricately carved door, and the guard posted outside opened it for him, bowing slightly.
Thomas had been in the dining room on multiple occasions, for various events such as meetings and formal dinners. Tonight, however, it would just be Rayne and himself.
Rayne was seated on the right side of the long table, close to the head. There was a table setting directly opposite her and Thomas smiled as he took his place.
“It’s quite odd for it to be just us, isn’t it?” Rayne was the first to break the silence.
“Very. I’m used to the whole room being full of people in suits and dresses. Speaking of, you look very nice this evening,” Thomas gave a slight nod in her direction and Rayne’s smile grew.
“So do you, Thomas.”

Thomas enjoyed their dinner immensely and hoped that Rayne did as well. They walked back down the same hall that Thomas had taken earlier, except this time the pair took their time in the comfortable silence.
When they reached the double white doors that led into the control room, Thomas waited for Ranye to enter before he did, then took his post behind his table. Rayne continued past him but hesitated beside her personal couch, “Thomas, what exactly did you have to show me? Should I sit?”
“I’m sorry for keeping the suspense but I figured the best way to explain would be to show you. You should probably sit, but I’ll move the diagrams to the screen.”
Rayne placed herself in front of the large screen but still sat at a slight angle so that she could watch him.
“I’ve had an epiphany,” he began, eyes starting to sparkle. “I call it Selective Energy Distribution and if all goes well, it should give a little spice to the Infinity Games.”
