Chapter 29
{{ Alexis' POV 🌌}}
Alexis stood and panted, admiring her handiwork. A spray of bodies littered the surrounding forest floor, covered in blood and lifeless. It was the second squad she had managed to kill and, although it provided excitement, she was starting to tire. Teleporting took more out of her than she realized.
After wiping her knife off on her pants, she started off into the trees once again. She had been confused at first as to why there were so many guards in the arena when there should be none, but a little torture of a guard had quickly answered her questions.
The dome was broken. Gone. Disabled. She could escape if she wanted to, but what was the point? She had never held any fondness for the smelly, cramped streets of Gravara and now she'd have the whole arena to herself. She could finish off any guards she came across and she doubted that any other contestants had the guts or the desire to remain in their previous cage.
Life here would be pretty nice. Hopefully, she would have no interruptions and, as long as they never reinstated the dome, she could leave whenever she pleased.
Yes, it would be very nice indeed.
{{ Carrie's POV ☁️}}
Somehow they had made it out of the arena. With the help of both Carrie and Ash, they managed to bring K.C. with them. She had only stopped sobbing a few minutes ago and hadn’t spoken a word since Andrew had been shot. Thankfully they hadn't seen any more guards, but Carrie was growing suspenseful. Where had all the guards gone? And where in the world had they found themselves?
When the trees of the arena had finally stopped, they had found themselves in an odd stone tunnel. The ceiling was so high it was barely visible and the only light came from the periodic lights speckled along the walls.
They hadn't been walking for long before sunlight became visible at the end of the tunnel. The trio cautiously made their way down the rest of the tunnel until Carrie realized that it wasn't sunlight glowing from their exit, but the white artificial light of the capital.
Carrie came to an abrupt halt, causing the other two to do the same. They all knew that speaking would be the wrong choice, so with a collective nod, they began to creep forward with Carrie in the lead.
Once they reached the end of the tunnel, they were met with two large metal doors, the white light shining through their windows. Carrie steeled her nerves and peeked into one of the windows, but saw nothing except a stark white room and two more doors parallel to the first two.
She glanced back at her companions before pushing the doors open and stepping into the white room.
{{ Renesmee's POV ❤}}
Finally. Renesmee had been waiting in the remote control center since she had triggered Thomas' "kill switch". She knew she couldn't go back to the mansion for a while so she had decided to stay and see if any contestants came out through the emergency tunnel. And sure enough, three children had just made it into the detox room.
She quickly made her way through the small center to the entrance of the detox room and slowly opened the doors. The children, two girls, and a boy stared at her with looks of fear which quickly turned to aggression.
Renesmee raised both hands and didn't move from the doorway. What on earth was she thinking? These children wouldn't trust anyone from outside and now they had special abilities to protect themselves.
They stared at each other for a few seconds before Renesmee realized who she was looking at.
"You three were camped in the valley, weren't you," she waited for an answer but started again when she realized that they weren't going to say anything. "I'm not going to hurt you, I promise. I was the one who shut down the dome."
This information seemed to spark something in the trio and the smaller girl stepped forward, "Yeah we're from the valley. If you want a thank you though, you aren't going to get one. We just want to leave, so if you could just move, we'll be on our way."
"I understand if you want to leave, but I have a proposition to make first if you'll let me," she paused again, waiting for any objections. "I would like you all to come live with me in the mansion. You will be treated with the utmost respect and care and will have all your needs provided for. I know you all might be skeptical and I could see how you might think this is too good to be true, but I promise you that there are no hidden stipulations."
She gave them all a moment to let her words sink in, observing their hesitant looks and wary postures. After a few minutes of silence the older girl, the one with black hair, spoke, "How can you give us boarding at the mansion? I know you aren't the governor, I've seen her in a broadcast, so how is it that you're able to let us stay at the mansion? Not to mention why you would have former contestants stay at the capital."
"As I said before, I was the one who disabled the dome and freed all of the contestants. I want to help you because I know that what happened to you was inexcusable and this is the only way I can possibly start to make things a little bit better. As for the other matter, you are correct, or rather, you would have been correct if you had come through that tunnel an hour or two ago.
“I was previously the governor's assistant, but the governor and the Infinity Controller have been missing for over twenty-four hours. The law states that if both the governor and Infinity Controller cannot be reached within twenty-four hours, that a selected individual will reside as the new governor until the previous has been located. The governor had selected me as her replacement, so here we are."

After a little more persuasion and some time to think, the three children conceded and Renesmee led the way back to the mansion. She couldn't help but feel pride for accomplishing something so life-changing as disabling the dome. She didn't know how long this awkward peace would last but she would make the most of her time as governor; starting with the disassembling of the Infinity Games.
They would no longer need infinity to be their savior, they had saved themselves.
