57. BLACK EYES

It was gone in an instant as Taliya straightened up, her expression guarded. She snatched the pencil from the floor, avoiding his eyes, and turned back to her notebook, resuming her doodling with a renewed focus. The classroom had quieted down, and the teacher began taking attendance, her voice a monotone that faded into the background.

Murad sighed inwardly. It was just a small interaction, a fleeting moment, yet it felt significant. Taliya's deliberate avoidance stung, though he couldn't blame her. He was used to being ignored, to being the quiet shadow in the room. But somehow, he had hoped that she, of all people, might understand him, might see past his silence.

He returned to his sketch, but his thoughts were distracted. He wondered what Taliya thought of him, this silent boy who had intruded on her solitude. Did she see him as an oddity, someone to be pitied or avoided? Or was there a chance that she was simply shy, like him, unsure of how to reach out? The questions buzzed in his mind, unanswered and unsettling.

As the lesson began, Murad tried to focus, but his thoughts kept drifting back to Taliya. Her silence was different from his; it was deliberate, a choice. She was capable of speaking but chose not to, whereas he was bound by an invisible barrier that separated him from everyone else. Yet, in that moment when their eyes met, he felt a strange connection, a shared understanding of what it meant to be alone in a crowded room.

The morning dragged on, each minute feeling like an hour. Murad doodled absentmindedly, creating a series of interconnected shapes that mirrored his tangled emotions. The teacher's voice droned on, explaining equations and formulas that seemed irrelevant in the face of his internal struggle. He glanced at Taliya from time to time, hoping for another chance to connect, but she remained engrossed in her drawings, her expression unreadable.

As the final bell rang, the teacher guided the homework and left the class.

Twelve year Murad waited patiently for the class to be empty as he hesitated and turned to look at Taliya who was already gazing him.

She crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes at him.

"You aren't mute."

First, she didn't spoke to him and when she did, she sent him choking beyond the breath.

He gasped with red eyes and pointed at her with accusing fingers.

"Kid, don't point at me." Her words were cold and eyes sharp as she curled her fingers around his index finger and pushed it down gently.

He calmed down after a while and drank water from his bottle narrowing his eyes on the still Taliya.

Out of no where Taliya strikes her pencil in the air and stops just infront of his eyes. It was a miracle Murad wasn't scared. Otherwise, if there was someone else in his place, he would have already being crying about Taliya's deed. But, Murad was different he didn't even bat an eye to her and gave her a bore look.

"You left me no choice, boy." She shook her head with denial and stood up her feet. Her hands neared his neck and for the first time he let a girl touch him.

Grazing his cheek with her thumb, she leaned on his lap settling herself down on his thigh making a shudder run through his spine. It was first time in his life, a girl was so close to him.

Her right hand rounded around his neck as he held her waist in trance and in alert of what she was going to do next. Her other hand ran along his chest making him feeling different feelings as he leaned back on his chair, hiding his rushed feelings behind his masks.

Just when she neared her face to his, her fingers pinched on his nipple making him shriek out like a girl.

"Ouch, you crazy girl!" He grabbed his chest with his hand making her laugh out loud.

Murad's eyes widened when he realized what he did. He let his cover slip on the first day of his school and that too infront of a strange girl. He sighed on his idiocy and looked at her.

"Now that you know, what are you gonna do about?" He asked with his husky voice. That voice was different from every boy's voice in his class.

"Uhm, nothing I just wanted to prove myself right that you are lying. But, I must give it to you. Your acting skills are great." She cleared her throat and replied while packing her backpack to go for another class.

"Not so soon." He whispered with a smirk and pulled her into his lap with a wide smirk.

Taliya felt hot off a sudden, it was new for her to experience a boy's touch.

"Now, that you know about my secret. You have to sign a contract with me."

"Ain't no way." She denied and protested to get up.

"You got nothing against me but I do. So, babe you gotta be alot more smart than me to plot against me." She continued and unwind his hands from her waist and picked up her backup. Just as she was began walking out of their seat, the class room door burst open making them startle for the second time in a day.
