Tension in the council
Chapter 14
Lilith's POV
The door to the council chamber burst open and four armed men stormed in, their weapons trained on us. I stood up, my heart racing as I tried to assess the situation.
"What is the meaning of this?" the head of the council demanded, rising to his feet.
One of the gunmen stepped forward, his eyes cold and hard. "We're here for the secrets," he said. "The ones your little trio uncovered."
I felt a jolt of fear run through me. We had known that our discovery would have consequences, but I never thought it would come to this.
"What secrets?" the head of the council asked, his voice steady. "We have heard no such thing."
The gunman sneered. "Don't play dumb with us. We know what you know, and we want it. Now."
I exchanged a look with Tyler and Roxanne. We were in over our heads, but we couldn't give up the truth without a fight.
One of the gunmen stepped forward, his gaze locking onto me. "Where are the documents?" he growled.
"I won't tell you anything," I said, my voice firm.
The gunman took a step closer, his weapon raised. "Oh, you will," he said. "One way or another."
I braced myself for what was to come, knowing that I would have to be strong in order to protect the secrets and bring justice to light.
I raised my chin, my eyes flashing with defiance. "I don't know what you're talking about," I lied smoothly.
The gunman stepped closer, his weapon pressed against my chest. "Don't play games with me," he snarled. "We know you have the documents. Where are they?"
I swallowed my saliva hurriedly, my mind racing. I couldn't let them fall into the wrong hands. "I destroyed them," I lied again. "There's nothing left for you to find."
The gunman's eyes narrowed. "I don't believe you. Where are the backups?"
I hesitated, my mind trying to come up with a convincing story. "I didn't have time to make backups," I said finally. "I just wanted to protect the information."
AS I was talking, I heard a loud crash as the door to the council chamber was forced open. More gunmen, dressed in black and masked, stormed into the room, their weapons raised and ready to fire.
I jumped out of my seat, my heart pounding in my chest as I realized that we were under attack. Tyler and Roxanne were quick to react, jumping to their feet and positioning themselves between the gunmen and the council members.
"Everyone get down!" Tyler shouted, his voice ringing out over the chaos.
I ducked behind a nearby table, my mind racing as I tried to come up with a plan. Who would do this? And why?
The gunmen began firing, the sound of the shots ringing out in the confined space. Tyler and Roxanne were holding their own, their skills as warriors making them formidable opponents, but there were too many of the attackers, and it was only a matter of time before they were overpowered.
I had to do something. I couldn't just sit here and watch as my friends were taken down. I took a deep breath, gathering my courage, and made a break for the door. If I could make it out of the council chamber, I could get help and come back with reinforcements.
But as I made my way towards the door, one of the gunmen spotted me. He raised his weapon and took aim, his finger tightening on the trigger.
I braced myself for the impact, knowing that this could be the end. And then, everything went black.
I stood my ground as the gunmen approached, their weapons aimed directly at me. I could feel Tyler and Roxanne tense beside me, ready to spring into action if necessary, but I kept my own expression calm and controlled.
"What do you want?, Why are you doing this to us" I asked, my voice calm despite the danger.
One of the gunmen stepped forward, his cold eyes fixed on me. "We want to know everything," he growled. "What you know, who you've told, and how you found out."
I raised my chin, refusing to back down. "I'm not going to tell you anything," I said. "You have no right to be here, and you certainly have no right to interrogate us."
The gunman sneered. "We have every right," he said. "You're putting the entire pack at risk with your little investigation, and we're not going to let that happen."
I could feel Tyler and Roxanne tensing beside me, ready to fight if necessary. I knew we were vastly outnumbered, but I also knew that we couldn't back down. We had come too far to let everything we had discovered be buried in secrecy.
The tension in the room was palpable as the three of us stood our ground, determined to protect the truth at all costs. But as the gunmen closed in, it was clear that this was only the beginning of a long and dangerous battle.
I closed my eyes, trying to think of a way out of this. The sound of footsteps approached and I steeled myself for what was to come.
"You know too much," one of the gunmen growled, his voice low and menacing. "What did you do with the information?"
I forced myself to look him in the eye, to show him that I was not afraid. "We took it to the council," I replied, my voice steady. "We did what we thought was right."
The gunman let out a harsh laugh. "Right? You have no idea what right is. You're just pawns in a game you don't understand."
I frowned, my mind working quickly. "What game? What are you talking about?"
The gunman's expression turned dark. "You'll find out soon enough. But first, you need to give us what we came for."
I shook my head. "I don't have anything. I told you, we took it to the council."
The gunman stepped forward, his gun trained on me. "Don't lie to me. We know you have something. And if you don't give it to us, you won't leave this room alive."
I could feel the sweat beading on my forehead, but I refused to back down. "I'm telling the truth," I said, my voice firm. "I don't have anything."
I sat in the dimly lit room, my heart racing as I tried to think of a way out of this situation. The gunmen had been interrogating me for hours, asking about the secrets I had uncovered and the information I had shared with the council. But I refused to give in to their demands, my loyalty to my pack and my sense of right and wrong keeping me strong.
"You're never going to get anything out of me," I said, my voice steady and despite the fear that threatened to overwhelm me.
One of the gunmen stepped forward, his eyes cold and menacing. "We'll see about that," he growled. "You have information that could be very valuable to us, and we're not above using force to get what we want."
I stood my ground, my chin held high. "I'll never betray my pack," I said firmly. "Even if it means putting myself in harm's way."
The gunman gave me a cruel smile. "You're in way over your head, little wolf. You have no idea what you've gotten yourself into."
I knew I was playing a dangerous game, but I couldn't back down now. I had to protect the secrets I had uncovered, even if it meant putting my own life on the line. I took a deep breath and braced myself for what was to come, my resolve unwavering in the face of danger.
I glared up at the gunmen, my eyes burning with anger and determination. "I'm not going to tell you anything," I said, my voice steady and calm despite the fear that was building inside her.
One of the gunmen stepped forward, a smirk on his face. "You're in no position to be making demands," he said, his voice low and menacing. "You and your friends have uncovered information that doesn't belong to you, and we're here to make sure it stays that way."
My heart was pounding in my chest, but I refused to show any fear. I knew that if I let them intimidate me, it would all be over. "I won't be silenced," I said firmly. "The truth needs to be heard, no matter what the cost."
The second gunman stepped forward, his hand hovering over the holster at his side. "You're making a mistake," he warned. "We have the upper hand here. You can either tell us what we want to know, or we'll make you regret ever getting involved in this mess."
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. I needed to keep my head clear and think of a way out of this situation. Suddenly, I remembered the tiny tracking device I had placed in my pocket before the meeting. If I could just distract the gunmen long enough, I could activate the device and alert Alex and Jessy, who are currently manning the northern territory for our rescue.
"Fine," I said, my voice steady. "I'll tell you what you want to know. But first, I need some water. My throat is dry from all the talking."
The first gunman nodded, and I took advantage of the opportunity to slip my hand into my pocket and activate the tracker. I prayed that Alex and Jessy would get the message in time.
The gunman stared at me for a long moment, his expression unreadable. Then he stepped back, his weapon lowering. "Fine. We'll find another way to get what we want."
The gunman's expression turned to one of anger, and I braced myself for the worst. But before he could make a move, the door to the council chamber burst open and a group of pack members stormed in, led by Alex and Jessy.
"Let her go," Alex growled, his eyes blazing.
The gunman hesitated for a moment, then turned and fled, his accomplices close behind. Tyler rushed over to me, pulling me into a tight embrace.
"Are you okay?" he asked, his voice filled with concern.
I nodded, still in shock from what had just happened. "Yeah, I'm okay. But we need to get out of here. They know we have something."
Tyler nodded, his expression grim. "I know. But we'll figure it out. We'll find a way to protect the truth and bring those responsible to justice."
With Tyler and Roxanne by my side, I knew that we would do just that. Together, we would face whatever challenges lay ahead, determined to uncover the truth and fight for what was right.
I watched as the gunmen turned and made their way out of the council chamber, my heart pounding in my rib cage. I knew that this was far from over, and that the secrets we had uncovered were still in danger of falling into the wrong hands.
