Chapter 12

A few days after Simon left, Cecilia found me. She glared at me with near hatred, saying, "I thought you were dead."
"In these past years, he has tried multiple times to end our engagement, but I have rejected him every time.
So, he punishes me by getting drunk and repeatedly calling out your name, saying that you are the person he truly loves." "Diana, how dare you think you can replace me?"
I looked at her completely transformed face, unable to hide the signs of fatigue between her eyebrows, her restless and anxious state. Almost as if by coincidence, I thought back to when she had just returned. High and mighty, the star of the show.
I had to pour her wine and serve her soup. Without thinking, I had to soak in the cold artificial lake, searching for the nonexistent ring for her.
Seeing that I continued to calmly gaze at her, Cecilia suddenly broke down emotionally.
She abruptly stood up, staring at me fiercely, saying, "Why did you come back? Since you left, you shouldn't come back again."
"Do you know what Simon said when you came back? He said he wants to divorce me no matter what."
"He said he wants a clean break to pursue you and beg for a chance from you."
"I went abroad to study, to conduct research, and then bring my achievements back, continuing to further my education and contribute to the country and the people. I don't think there's anything wrong with that." I said peacefully.
Stirring the coffee in front of me, I spoke in a nonchalant tone, "Miss Bell, it is your own narrow-mindedness to confine your thoughts to useless love and hatred. What qualifications do you have to question me?" She glared at me with resentment but couldn't bring herself to say anything.
Cecilia and Simon are cut from the same cloth. They have had everything they needed since birth, lacking nothing. In their view, if you don't love me and I don't love you, it is a great misfortune.
But what I have always wanted is simply the path to my ideals.
No longer paying any attention to Cecilia, I paid for the coffee and left. Unexpectedly, that very night I saw myself trending on social media. Similar to Jasmine back then, she excels at using public opinion as a weapon. In that lengthy Facebook post, she and Simon were portrayed as a long-time engaged couple, and I was the wicked person who swooped in and stole their love after returning home.
Those people couldn't find me, so they left comments on the official account of the research institute, demanding that they fire me.
"How can someone with a high educational background but a rotten character be entrusted with important scientific research?" This public opinion onslaught was fierce.
A few extreme fans even went to the door of the research institute with banners. I immediately reported it to the police. Iris was furious, saying, "How dare she? What right does a plastic surgery freak have to jump around?" I stopped her, saying, "This time, let me handle it myself."
This time, I won't back down. I have evidence.
I registered an account and uploaded a video.
Back on set, Cecilia was upset by Jasmine. To vent her anger, she forced me to help her find the ring by dragging me into the water.
Actually, an equally unknown and oppressed assistant was on the scene, secretly recording this scene and sending me the video.
She said, "If she bullies you again, expose her."
"These people are like this, being worshipped by fans, they don't see us as human..."
Five years ago, I didn't expose it.
Because I was very clear that the crux of the matter was never Cecilia, but Simon.
But this time, she brought this upon herself.
