Chapter 6
The trending topic quickly changed.
One of Simon's friends stood up to clarify that I am not Simon's girlfriend.
"Mr. Turner initially felt sorry for her, so he helped her family pay for medical expenses. Unexpectedly, she became obsessed with him and has been trying to climb the social ladder ever since. The dinner in the photo was also Mr. Turner's attempt to clear things up with her."
Simon had someone release a few photos.
There were some of me working as a bartender in a bar, being harassed by customers.
But from the angle of the photos, it looked like I was enjoying that.
There was also a photo of Jasmine having dinner with an elderly investor.
Lastly, there was a photo of the two of us at a coffee shop.
Some people concluded, "So it was Jasmine's role that was stolen, and she held a grudge, so she teamed up with this night club girl to spread rumors? Poor Cecilia."
My phone number was exposed.
Thousands of insulting text messages flooded in.
Someone even exposed my documents and demanded that the school revoke my graduation certificate and degree due to my bad character.
Meanwhile, Cecilia came out of the public opinion storm unscathed.
The next evening, she confidently posted a photo of an engagement ring on her Facebook.
"We're engaged."
Countless congratulations poured in the comments section.
Meanwhile, the online attacks against me escalated.
For several days, I didn't dare to turn on my phone.
Simon still hadn't returned.
My stomach trouble flared up again, so I planned to go to the hospital for some medicine.
But I was abducted and forced into a white van.
In an abandoned factory by the beach, I saw Cecilia, who was also tied up.
Her expensive gown was covered in dust and torn.
Her carefully styled, silky hair was disheveled like dry grass.
She looked at me with eyes full of resentment and cursed, "It's you again!"
I pursed my lips and said, "That's something I should be saying."
"What right do you have to talk to me like this, you poor wretch!"
Cecilia screamed, "Simon doesn't love you at all! If it wasn't for you looking like me, you wouldn't even have the qualifications to be his stand-in!"
She had lost control.
The always superior female celebrity was forcefully brought here and locked in a dusty factory.
She shouted, cursed, and tried to bribe, but all she got in return were punches and kicks from the kidnappers.
After enduring for two days, Jasmine appeared.
I sighed and said, "I knew it was you."
She looked at me with a smile and said, "You see, you're thinking about Simon, but he won't consider your situation."
"Now that both you and Cecilia are here, if he can only save one person, I'm curious who he would choose?"
The answer to this question didn't even need to be verified, he wouldn't choose me.
So when the sound of police sirens grew closer, Jasmine and her hired men quickly pushed me to the edge of the cliff, and I calmly glanced at Simon.
He didn't even look back.
I looked at Cecilia and said, "Cecilia, don't be afraid."
The usually proud Cecilia shed tears.
She choked and sobbed, calling out Simon's name, "Save me, Simon!"
I looked at the white waves surging below the cliff and remained silent.
Jasmine asked me, "Aren't you struggling?"
"No," I replied softly. "I'm a little tired."
They seemed to say something else, probably discussing terms.
My stomach grew more painful, and cold sweat began to form on my forehead and back. Finally, I heard Simon's voice.
He called me, "Diana."
"I will save you too, just look at me."
"Raise your head and look at me."
I didn't raise my head and only heard Jasmine sarcastically say,
"It's not that simple. Simon, I've worked so hard for many years, and now you've ruined it all. You will pay the price."
Suddenly, a force came from behind.
My body felt light, and then came the sensation of falling weightlessly. The white waves in front of me grew closer and closer.
Cecilia's screams gradually faded away.
I belatedly realized that she had pushed me and Cecilia off the cliff together.
Before being swallowed by the sea, I heard Simon called me one last time.
It was a voice I had never heard before, filled with immense fear and despair.
"Diana!"
