“Farryn are you okay?” Celeste tugged on Farryn’s sleeve as the two large wolves collided with one another in a flurry of teeth and claws.
“F-Fine. Just surprised it’s almost over.” She whispered quickly. Celeste hummed in doubt but dropped it regardless. The two wolves going at each other seemed more like they wanted to kill each other rather than make one another submit. Xavier’s wolf was substantially larger than Tony’s brown wolf but that didn’t mean the smaller wolf was weaker. Both were slightly bloody from their earlier fights but neither had wounds. Everything had already healed by now.
The brown wolf slid under the larger wolf and clamped his jaw around the wolf’s ankle. The grey wolf snarled in pain but reared back onto his hind legs and dropped his weight onto the brown wolf’s ribs. Even with the cheering crowd, the sound of the ribs breaking was clear to hear. The sound only spurred the crowd on. The brown wolf released a whine of discomfort but forced himself to his paws, forcing the grey wolf off of him.
Farryn glanced away for a moment, her eyes catching Amelia and motioning for the female to come to her side. “What’s wrong?” She asked as Vini moved to stand beside Celeste. The wolfs snapped their jaws at one another as they both lunged and Farryn tilted her head close to Amelia’s while returning her gaze to the fight.
“What can you tell me about Xavier?” Farryn asked quietly, her voice could barely be heard over the sound of the crowd but she could have sworn she saw the grey wolf’s ear twitch in their direction.
“Um nothing much, he wasn’t born into the pack, he was actually a rogue who approached us just before we left our northern territory. He’s earned his place among us since he’s joined but he still keeps his distance for the most part. He doesn’t participate in a lot of pack activities, doesn’t even live here in town I think. I was surprised to see him show up today, he’s taking this pretty seriously.” Farryn frowned as she straightened back up in time to watch the small brown wolf knock the grey wolf to the ground.
The brown wolf wasted no time in lunging for the opening, his teeth sank into the shoulder of the grey and white fur as he placed one of his paws on the wolf’s large head to hold him in place. His claws and the large wolf’s thrashing caused him to cut the wolf’s cheek open but the grey wolf didn’t care.
“If he’s such an outsider why is he taking this so seriously?” Farryn asked as Celeste pushed forward a bit to watch as the blood splattered around the two. Amelia shrugged her shoulders for a moment. The grey wolf pulled his head back far enough to snap his jaw shut on the brown wolf’s paw. The smaller wolf was quick to release his hold on the shoulder as he yelped, trying to jump away but the grey wolf hadn’t let go yet.
“Maybe he’s tired of being on the outside?” Amelia offered quietly as the brown wolf was finally released. He couldn’t put his paw down, the appendage hung limp as the wolf held his front leg up. The grey wolf was quick to his feet and used his shoulder to drive the smaller wolf down. He wasn’t putting on a show like the brown wolf seemed to be doing for the crowd. His thundering snarl silenced the crowd as his maw opened. Everyone gasped in unison as he lunged for the wolf’s throat.
“Enough!” Farryn’s loud shout froze the large grey wolf. The brown wolf released a slow exhale of what had to be relief as the beast turned slowly towards the Alpha.
“Why did you have to stop him?” Vini grumbled, drawing a chuckle from his sister. The grey wolf growled quietly as he took two large steps in their direction, his eyes locked on Farryn who had interrupted him.
“That is enough, you are clearly the stronger wolf. You have already won so there is no need to go any further.” His lips twitched backward to bare his bloodied teeth to her before he slowly relaxed.
He glanced over his shoulder to the brown wolf who was watching warily. Farryn curled her fingers at her side, should he choose to attack again she would have no choice but to physically stop him herself. He licked some of the blood from his maw before shifting back to his human form. Xavier rose to his full height as Celeste hummed appreciatively at his naked form.
“The fight wasn’t finished yet. He hadn’t submitted.” His voice was deep, almost musical, and sent a chill down Farryn’s spine at the sound.
“You would have killed him had I not stopped you Xavier and that is not what today is about.” He sniffed once before wiping at the blood covering his face. Tony had shifted back to his form and stood up as he was handed a pair of shorts.
“Xavier today was about finding my Beta. I need someone strong at my side. You have proven not only that you are strong but that you are one of the strongest males in this pack.” Xavier placed his hands on his bare hips, his amber eyes watching her closely, judging her.
Farryn swallowed hard as she extended her hand to the male. “I would be honored to give that title to you. You have more than earned the right.” His amber eyes drifted slowly from her eyes to her lips, then down to her neck, then chest. For a moment Farryn felt as if it was her that stood naked in front of the whole pack as he gazed slowly along her whole body before finally settling his eyes on her hand.
The roguish grin that he had flashed her so many nights ago as he watched her walk into the twin's house graced his lips once more as he looked up to her green eyes. Some of the pack members behind him were beginning to stir uneasily by his hesitation. He extended his hand in the same slow manner his eyes took the time to look her over. However, with the same speed he had shown in his wolf form, he grabbed ahold of her wrist and yanked her body to his own.
His right hand closed around her throat with just the slightest bit of pressure. No one seemed to breathe as she quickly extended her hand to stop Celeste and Vini, both of which were about to lunge at the male. The skin at her throat and wrist ignited at his touch and she knew her cheeks were flushed.
“Thanks for the offer… but I’ll pass.” Farryn’s shoulders rose, the wolf inside seemed to be shaking with fury. The pack around them began to murmur among each other, the strongest male had rejected the alpha.
Xavier tilted his head to the side, his raven black hair brushed the tip of his ear with the predatory movement as the amber in his eyes seemed to turn almost molten. His fingers tightened at her throat drawing a shiver from her body in response.
“No, I don’t think I’ll settle for being Beta. I think I’d like the sound of Alpha instead.” Xavier’s voice was a gentle purr. Her lips parted slightly as she released a shaky exhale, her vision just slightly unfocused as her mind struggled to register his words.
He grinned as he pulled her closer. “How does that sound to you?” He asked. Farryn was just about to start nodding when Celeste cleared her throat sharply jarring Farryn from her daze. She gasped in horror at the dazed female she must look like in front of her pack. She snarled as she shoved hard at his shoulders.
“If you want my title then you can fight me for it.” She spat as he laughed. The sound made her knees shake, it was the kind of sound she wanted to do everything in her power to hear again and again. She hated herself for feeling so strongly about him.
Her wolf was no help, even she didn’t seem to know how she should feel. The pressure at Farryn’s throat made her wonder if he wasn’t about to just rip her throat out and be done with it. Slowly he released her, her heated skin quickly cooling as he backed away.
“If you fight there won’t be anyone to stop me this time.” Farryn scoffed sharply as she pulled her shirt over her head and tossed it to Amelia before unbuttoning her pants.
“You should be concerned about no one stopping me.” She snapped.
Once her pants were off she wasted no time in shifting. The male before her laughed one last time before shifting as well. His white and grey muzzle was still coated in Tony’s blood. With the white wolf facing the grey male, Farryn realized they were the exact same size. The female lowered her head with a snarl, the male was favoring his back right leg, the leg that Tony had bit earlier.
The male had just begun to lower his head when she lunged. The fight was on and she wanted his blood. She wanted to make him yelp and whine in pain. She needed to establish her dominance here and now in front of everyone especially after the pathetic show Farryn had given at their close contact.
