Chapter 18: Tired of hiding
**Moon Mountain Pack High School Parking lot.**
Darien and Alora were blissfully unaware of the chaos, Alora and Matt’s rejection of each other, had caused. Alora just continued to stand still while Serenity continued to clean her face, all the while looking like a concerned younger sister. Alora had this strange desire to hug Serenity and tell her she would be fine.
Darien came up behind Serenity as she finished wiping the blood off of Alora’s face. Wrapping his arms around her waist Darien pulls Serenity’s back against his chest. Darien tucked his nose into the crook of Serenity’s neck, taking a deep breath, drawing in her scent.
Darien reveled in the sensations that rolled over him as he took in his mate’s scent. Then he looked up at his friend, she had a soft smile on her face as she looked at us. Darien knew Alora wouldn’t want him to be sad for her, but he couldn’t help it. He’s wanted so much for Alora to find her fated mate, and for him to make Alora happy. That hadn’t happened today.
*“Something is different about them now.”* Axel told Darien.
*“What’s different?”* Darien asked his wolf.
*“It’s faint, but her scent is slightly different, and her power seems to have spiked.”* Axel said.
This prompted Darien to take a closer look at Alora with his other senses. Being an Alpha Werewolf Darien could see and sense things other wolves couldn’t. His wolf was right, Alora’s power had spiked, and there was a new, very faint fragrance added to her scent.
*“I can’t tell what’s causing the change in her scent.”* Darien told his wolf.
*“The scent is not strong enough yet for me to tell what it is.”* Axel said, sounding a little frustrated.
*“Then I won’t mention it to her for now.”* Darien said to Axel.
*“There is still the possibility of them becoming brother’s mate.”* Axel told Darien, knowing just how much Darien was hoping for that outcome.
Axel’s words did cheer Darien up a little, his brother was now twenty three, and still unmated. ‘Please Moon Goddess, pair Alora to my brother, if anyone could love her as she deserves to be loved…it is him.’ Darien offered up in a silent prayer.
“I think I have to say this aloud, because I really can’t hold it in anymore.” Galen said, and everyone turned their heads to look at him, his gaze was on Alora. “Your sister is a right bitch she is, what she did was so fucked up, she was so mental.”
The Mountainmover Clan members had a lyrical brogue that was the combination of the Moon Mountain Pack’s dialect and that of an island continent located northeast of the First Continent, the island nearly touched the Second Continent.
The brogues entered into the Mountainmover Clan’s dialect, when many female wolves from that small island continent, found their fated mates among the males of the Mountainmover Clan.
Throughout the last several hundred thousand years, a few out of every generation of the Mountainmovers, would find their fated mate among those islanders. Thus, bringing about the Mountainmover Clan’s unique way of speaking.
Alora looked at Galen wide eyed after he spoke for a moment, blinking a couple of times. Before she finally burst out laughing. Alora’s voice was beautiful, and it could enchant everyone within hearing distance. Whether she meant it to or not, her voice could make everyone within hearing distance listen to her.
There were quite a few gazes directed their way as Alora laughed, truly amused by Galen’s words. When she could gain control of herself, Alora looked at Galen with a smile that instantly made his mind go completely blank for a moment.
“Thank you, Galen, I needed that.” Alora said in her lyrical voice. Galen could only nod at her words as he couldn’t think of any other response. “You are right though.” Alora added.
Galen looked at her with an expression of confusion on his face. Darien, seeing this expression, shook his head and rolled his eyes. Alora was an Alpha female through and through, she just repressed it to the point barely anyone knew. However, it looked as if Alora was unable to keep as tight a grip on her aura as she used too.
“What was Galen right about?” Serenity asked, an adorable expression of genuine curiosity on her face.
“That my sister is a right bitch…and a psycho.” Alora replied, almost jauntily.
There was this smile on Alora’s face, it was faint and gentle looking. It made Alora look as if she was completely unconcerned with what just happened, but the smile didn’t reach her eyes. If you looked into her eyes, you could see the storm gathering within Alora.
The slaps and accusations Sarah had thrown at Alora had done something. Alora had practically heard an audible snap from within herself.
“Anyone think Sarah might challenge Alora during today’s fight exam?” Kain casually asked the question.
An anticipatory grin stretched across Alora’s lips, the look in her eyes chilling. “Oh I hope she does,” Alora said, her words coming out in almost a purr. “I would enjoy tearing her to pieces and pay her back a little for everything she’s done to me.”
“Sarah would be a fool to challenge an Alpha Class fighter, so it might not happen.” Serenity said, “After all, Sarah is only an Enforcer Class fighter.”
“I thought she was in the Reserve Class.” Galen said.
“Nope, that was last year, Sarah managed to squeeze into the Enforcer Class fighter Rank this year.” Darien told Galen.
“Only because if she doesn’t place Enforcer Rank or higher, our parents would be demoted to Omega status in our Clan.” Alora revealed.
“What’s wrong with Omega status?” Galen asked.
“According to my parents and Sarah…everything.” Alora said.
“That’s really bigoted of them.” Kain commented, making Serenity gasp at him for saying something so rude.
“I’ve always thought so.” Alora said, not at all bothered by Kain’s words. In Alora’s mind, facts were facts, her family and many in the Frost and Northmountain Clans were indeed bigoted.
“Why does Sarah treat you like that, can’t your parents do anything about it?” Serenity asked.
Darien stiffened when Serenity asked her question, this was not a subject Alora would talk about. Darien and Damien had both asked this question before, and they’ve never received an answer to it. However, looking at Alora, Darien could tell something was different this time.
“It’s not a matter of ‘can’t’ for my parents, it’s a matter of ‘won’t’. Not only will they not stop Sarah’s treatment of me, but they also encourage it. They will also expect me to beg Sarah for forgiveness tonight, for trying to steal the male they have intended for their precious Ice Princess.” Alora told them, surprising Darien.
“Alora?” Darien said her name as a question.
Alora looked at Darien and saw the expression on his face and remembered all those questions he learned not to ask her over their years of friendship. Sarah’s slap had snapped the last bit of restraint Alora had. In the last four years, Alora resisted her need to show her family just exactly how much of a mistake it was to abuse her.
Bettina, Allister and Sarah, hadn’t had that many opportunities to torture and abuse Alora in the last four years. This was because of Alora’s internship at the Pack’s Lab, her employment at the wolf’s Bite Burger Palace and her High School and College courses. As a result, when they did get the opportunity to lock her up in the basement, and chain her to that same support beam from her nightmares, the torture and beatings were ten times worse.
Alora’s parents and Sarah would definitely use today as a reason for locking her up in the basement again. Alora wasn’t going to let it happen this time, she would show them just how powerful she was today. They would never be allowed to touch her again. Alora was an Alpha, and knew she was stronger than all three of them.
Alora knew she should have spoken up long ago about the abuse, but she had been too afraid to, after a conversation she had overheard between Alpha Andrew and an unknown Werewolf Councilman.
“If there's enough evidence to suspect that a pup is suffering abuse at the hands of her biological parents, that pup will then be removed from the home. Temporary custody of that pup will go to the pup’s Clan Alpha. Then once the case has been confirmed, the pup will be placed with someone of the same Clan and the parent's custodial rights forfeited.” The unknown Councilman had said.
“As the Alpha of the Pack, I should be able to gain custody of the pup myself and adopt it into my family in the event the abuse is proven.” Alpha Andrew had said.
“That’s not how it works Alpha, these are modern times, and we need to use modern day laws, as you have no blood relation to the pup, you could not take custody unless the pup had no blood related relatives or fellow Clan members left.” The Councilman had replied.
