Chapter 12

Giselle's POV

Two days later I sat in my bedroom trying to get some work done. I had spent the last few days looking through the packs account and trying to find a way to salvage our reputation from debts. Our finances were in a mess and with the way things were going we could very well soon be thrust into massive debt.

I sighed as I craned my neck backwards and stretched my legs. I had been sitting there for over two hours trying not to think about Cole. He said he would contact me soon but I still hadn't heard from him yet and I was starting to get really anxious waiting for him to call.

He must have already seen my proposal but why hasn't he called yet?. The pressure on me was getting too much. I stood up from my bed and headed downstairs. I decided I needed to walk it off. The more I keep thinking about it, the more it will only aggravate me.

My parents were already seated at the breakfast table eating. I greeted the two of them but only my mother answered me. It was clear my father was angry with me even though everything that happened was completely his fault. I took a sip of orange juice and went to the training gym to burn off some steam.

Surprisingly Toby was already there working out and I joined him quietly. After stepping up for the family Toby had sort of initiated a silent pact of mutual truce between us and had stopped making stupid and hurtful remarks at me.

I guess the state our family was in was much worse than his hate for me. Nevertheless we had declared a truce for now. Part of me was also afraid of what will become of the pack that is my grandfather's legacy when I leave.

As much as Toby likes to pretend he is capable enough to take care of the pack, it was quite obvious he wasn't. I had a feeling I wasn't the only one who thought so. I mean why else will my father go through such lengths to make the pack stronger so nobody could challenge Toby when he becomes the Alpha?. I fear he won't be respected by his pack members.

A few hours later I decided that was enough work out for the day. I headed over to the house to take a shower and have breakfast when I ran into my father. I wasn't in the mood to hear his tantrums so I tried to avoid him but he'd already seen me.

"Have you heard from Alpha Cole yet?," he asked, his tone impatient.

"No he hasn't. You know I'll tell you if he had called"

"Try calling him first. I need to know what is decision is"

I didn't want to argue with him anymore so I just did what he asked and dialed Cole's number. I was also tired of waiting for his answer anyway. Unfortunately the call went to voicemail and I instantly became worried. Was he avoiding my calls now?.

"This is completely your fault. All I asked was for you to ask him to help us with the money to pay off our debts but you just had to go and give him your stupid proposal instead. What makes you think he will want to invest in something like that?," my father said harshly, cursing at me.

My frustrations and anger began to rise as I heard my father talk. How dare he pin this on me?. This was all his fault and only because of his greediness. It seemed that no matter what I did to help him he would never appreciate it. I couldn't even stand to look at him any longer so I walked up stairs to go to my room when there was a sudden knock on the door. My father stopped yelling and looked at the door hopefully. We weren't expecting any visitors so it could only mean that Cole might be the one at the door.

Father ran to the door quickly to see who it was but his expression turned forlorn as he saw who it was. James was standing at the door with a couple of other people with him. I immediately ran over to the door only for the people that came with James to barge inside the house and hold father on either side and started to drag him outside.

"What are you doing right now?. You gave us three days to pay our debt and it's just the second day. You can't do this," I yelled at James.

He smirked and crossed his hand over his chest in a relaxed position and it infuriated the hell out of me.

"Well I changed my mind. I need my money now of your father gets dragged to the royal court and all your family members will be disgraced in front of the whole pack"

"But this isn't fair. If you could please give us more time I promise we will pay you the money. You just have to be patient with us"

James just shrugged, looking completely pleased with himself. "Like I said before, that is not my problem. My patience is wearing thin and I need my money right now"

They continued to drag my father away to their car while my mother and Toby tried to stop them.

"This is all your fault. They are dragging your father away to the royal court and now our family's name will be dragged through the mud. You should have just married Jared instead," my mother uttered at me in disgust.

I looked at her in surprise and hurt. I wasn't surprised she said something like that. I had known quite well that although my mother loved me she loved her husband more. Even in this situation none of my family still appreciates my efforts.

They had already dragged my father outside and were trying to put him in the car but he was resisting. By now the commotion had drawn the attention of our pack members and they all came to watch my father being taken away.

Nobody made a move to show support and try to plead for us because my father wasn't exactly beloved by his pack and now the repercussions are forthcoming. All the pack members including nobles and commoners had gathered together and were now gossiping unabashedly close to us.

I could hear some bits and pieces of their conversation and each word of theirs tore a hole in my heart.

"I can't believe that the alpha family would be so deep in debt that he would need to be arrested"

"I heard the eldest daughter got pregnant outside of marriage that's why the moon goddess is punishing them"

"The worst part is I heard both father and daughter planned for her to have a child with Alpha Cole so they could trap him and increase their power"

"Really. Such a shameful way to gain power. How can she even stand to look at herself?"

"No wonder he wants nothing to do with her. I heard he even abandoned her and refused to marry her"

In the past they could never say those things to me and get away with it but now seeing our family situation they no longer fear us. My mother burst into sobs as she also heard the gossips from the pack members.

Just when I thought it was the end for my family I heard the sound of a car approaching in the far distance. It was approaching at full speed and it stopped to a screeching halt right in front of the pack house. Everyone's attention was now settled on the intruder who had come to disrupt them. The door opened and a man stepped out dressed in a black tuxedo looking sexy as hell.

It was Cole. The whole crowd onlookers gawk in awe at the sudden arrival of Cole. He marched towards me completely ignoring the crowd and stood in front of me as if protecting me. I noticed he was holding something and saw it was the proposal I had given to him and my heart lit up in joy.

He turned towards me and gave me the proposal he was holding just as James approached him.

"I have gone through your proposal and it's worth investing in. Take it. I've already signed it," he said, giving me the proposal.

I was shocked. Did he really just agree to invest in the pack business because of my proposal?. It felt so surreal. The proposal I had given to him was one I had been working on for a really long time and I had waited for the right time for it to be used.

I had once shown my father the proposal in the initial stage but he had disregarded it and had not paid attention to it. I made a silent thank you to Cole for trusting in me when even my father didn't.

"What about the money you were investing in my pack?," James questioned, clearly jealous of the investment Cole had given to me.

"Like someone suggested I decided it wasn't a good enough investment so I stopped my investment"

"What?. You can't do that"

"Yes I can. You should have thought twice before you threatened the mother of my child," Cole uttered menacingly as James jumped in fear.
