Chapter 17
Giselle's POV
I walked into the hall room a few minutes and the butler was already glaring at me as I approached. He wasn't the only one in the room. I noticed a group of children and teenagers dressed in the finest clothing and assumed they were some of the noble children.
I grimaced in anger. I thought I would be the only one he was going to be teaching but I'm very sure he'd decided to bring the noble's children along so he could find a way to embarrass me.
"Weren't you taught to always keep to time at your pack or was your pack so backward and archaic that it didn't even teach you the basic manners of propriety," he spat loudly, as soon as I reached the middle of the room where they were all waiting for me.
I swallowed back a retort and didn't bother to answer. I knew he was baiting me to see how I'd react. I simply smiled and wanted to hurl in disgust when he smirked in victory.
"Now that you're here let's begin. We'll start with dancing lessons. A good Luna should know how to dance," he chimed away, motioning the noble's children to stand up.
"You will partner with me. Let's see if you can even dance at all," he smirked mischievously, coming towards me. He signaled to the pianist to play the piano and I watched as all the children immediately partnered up with each other.
Sweat beads were beginning to form on my forehead as I began to feel nervous but the look on the butler's face irked me so much I wanted to show him.
Unlike what he'd said earlier I had taken dancing lessons while growing up as it was part of my training as the Alpha's daughter, but over the years I hadn't danced much so I was a little rusty. I marched towards the butler and we both began to dance.
A few minutes into the dance the butler tripped me when he realized I was good at dancing. He took me by surprise and I held back a sharp retort in anger.
During the dance, he tried to trip me a few more times but I made sure he couldn't and by the time we were done the whole children were applauding me for my dance skills. It felt good to watch the butler's face grow red in anger when he'd failed to embarrass me in front of everyone.
By the time the dancing lessons were over the butler was livid with anger and I had made friends with most of the noble children. The butler stormed off in anger having not succeeded in his plans. Cynthia was already waiting for me at the entrance to the hall room.
"Did you see his face? He was livid"
"Yes that was satisfying to watch but now you have to be double careful"
"What are you talking about?"
"You made his plan fail and now they will know you're not a pushover. I'm afraid their attention will be on you now so you have to be extra careful," she warned.
"By they you mean Tiffany and the butler?"
"Yes. She's very unkind and has very strong connections with people in the Royal pack. She's not to be trifled with," Cynthia warned again and a shudder ran down my spine.
Oddly enough I began to doubt that coming to the palace was the right thing to do. Seeing the situation with Cole and his family it didn't seem all too ideal to raise a child in this kind of environment.
Although Cole had made it quite clear I was beginning to doubt if he would be able to protect both me and our child. His situation almost seemed worse than mine with my family.
"Come on, let's go. I'll take you to your next class," Cynthia said, interrupting my thoughts.
I followed her and we both walked to the other side of the palace when we stumbled upon Cole and his soldiers training. He was shirtless as he stood in front of his mean, all serious and stone-faced shouting out orders to them.
I could feel his powerful aura as we neared him and it drew me in. As I drew closer to him I tried to catch his eyes but he looked at me coldly only for a brief second before moving his eyes away, clearly still angry over last night's disagreements. I sighed in frustration as I continued to follow Cynthia.
As we were about to turn the corner of the courtyard a young soldier who was practicing his archery missed his target and the arrow flew towards me. I saw the arrow come towards me and could have avoided it but the tiredness I was experiencing due to the pregnancy coupled with the intense dancing lessons I took in the morning caused me to cramp up and I couldn't move away.
Just as the arrow was about to hit me, I heard Cynthia scream and a large wolf pushed me out of the way and cushioned my fall. My back ached from the pain of the fall and I kicked myself in for not being able to react on time. What if something had happened to my child?
Filled with disappointment in myself I looked to see who had saved me and a pair of familiar gray eyes met mine. I looked at him in gratitude. Although he was angry with me he hadn't hesitated to save me.
"Giselle, are you okay?" Cynthia ran to help me stand up.
I checked my body to see if I was hurt but Cole had taken most of the hit so I wasn't hurt much except for some bruises around my arms.
"I'm fine. Cole saved me and the arrow didn't hurt me"
I looked over at Cole. The fall had slightly bruised his hand and I could see him bleeding from the cut.
"Are you okay? You're bleeding," I said, moving over to his side. I felt guilty for being the reason he was hurt. If only I had moved in time, maybe he wouldn't have been hurt.
"I'm fine. This is nothing but first I need to check something"
I watched as Cole moved to where the arrow was still lying on the ground and checked it suspiciously.
"Call Rhys right now. This arrow has been tampered with," Cole said, his expression dark and cold.
