Chapter 8

Third person pov

After making a promise to Giselle's grandfather, Cole decided that Giselle would continue to stay in her pack until the marriage. He would leave for his pack first and make all the necessary preparations and then come later for her. Giselle went along with it as this would mean she can stay with her grandfather for much longer.

Cole called his beta Rhys and they both escorted Giselle back to her pack house. As soon as Giselle walked into the house Rhys clicked his tongue and exclaimed teasingly," I don't think I have even seen you worry about any woman before"

Cole pretended not to hear him and walked away entering his car. Rhys followed suit on his heels still making fun of him.

"I never thought I would ever see you married or with a child. Miracles do happen," Rhys said, continuing to tease him.

Rhys knew him too well. Everyone close to Cole and they were not a lot, knew that Cole had ever had any intention of ever getting married. His parents' marriage was nothing to write home about and because of how his mother had died he'd believed love only made you weaker so he had vowed never to fall in love.

His mind strayed to the first day he'd met Giselle. She was everything good that he loved wrapped in one package. Her soft silky hair pressed against his chest as he listened to the hum of her breath as she slept peacefully beside him.

The mesmerizing way her eyes lit up when she appeared embarrassed or even the way her chin would lift up in defiance when she didn't like what was going on. Even the thought of her made him feel things he had never felt before for any woman. Too bad she was the daughter of a man he loathed.

"Giselle is such a beauty to behold. With her big blue eyes and shapely long legs it's no wonder she's the most desirable Luna that most of the nobles want," Rhys uttered, still teasing Cole, trying to get a reaction from him.

Cole continued to stare ahead pretending not to be interested in what Rhys was saying.

"If you hadn't barged in and opted to marry her I'm sure even with the pregnancy, some nobles would still offer for her hand in marriage. Not only is she capable but she's also very knowledgeable and confident on running a household, everything most noble value in their wives"

He pressed forward again. "But what I don't understand is why her father was so keen on forming an alliance with the Blue Moon Pack even though Jared had tried to call off the wedding. I find it very strange"

Cole frowned. "I don't care about whatever happened between the two packs. All I know is that she's carrying my child so I will protect her and my child from any harm and it ends there. This marriage is nothing but a contract and it will be over once the baby is born"

Rhys glanced at him. "And you don't think that you might change your mind when it's time to divorce her"

"No," Cole shook his head with confidence.

If she wasn't her father's daughter he would most definitely have pursued her. He would have wanted to see how far his feelings for her went but alas she was her father's daughter and it had crumbled to pieces before it even began. As for her father he would definitely get his revenge on him. He could never forget the day he'd heard about his mother's death and how it had affected him badly. He would never forgive her father and he would definitely have his revenge. He just had to be patient.

Rhys pulled up into the driveway of the hotel they were staying at. "I think that before shutting Giselle out you should give her the benefit of the doubt without seeing her being under her father's shadow. Don't let what her father did to you make you hate her. It's not her fault"

Cole got down from the car waving Rhys away, not wanting to listen to him anymore. Rhys just sighed and stared at him knowing once Cole had made up his mind he couldn't change it. Cole had bigger problems to worry about. His return back to the palace was obviously not well received by his step mother and he wondered what she had in store for him. Now he was bringing Giselle and his baby into the palace and this time he planned on protecting them from her.

"Rhys, I'm sure my vile step mother is anxiously waiting for my return and I don't intend on disappointing her. We'll leave for the palace tomorrow. It's finally time I return home"

Giselle's POV

It had been almost a week since Cole had dropped me off at the pack house and I still haven't heard from him. I was starting to feel increasingly uneasy as the days passed by slowly. My father at first was reluctant to talk to me but after realizing he might still be able to gain something from me when I became Luna had tried to please me occasionally but as the days passed he started to return back to his old ways.

My mother had refused to talk to me since then and my brother wasn't even any better. I was starting to wonder if Cole would still come for me at all. I could always feel the pack members talking behind my back anytime I passed by. Everyone was probably thinking Cole had already abandoned me.

My brother Toby had even mocked me claiming that he was sure Cole had abandoned me and was no longer interested in me. I tried to ignore him most of the time but he still hurt knowing my brother didn't like me. It was all our father's fault. My father had never treated me properly but he trusted me and was always sure I oversaw most of the business and financial aspects of the pack. Giving me such responsibilities instead of Toby had probably made him bitter so that had made him dislike me. My father was always trying to pit us against each other and it made me sick.

I woke up that morning deciding to check the reports I had neglected because of the wedding. I had been so preoccupied with other things I hadn't been able to check on the business.

"Father, Did you get a large sum of money from Jared's father?," I said, walking into his office with a stack of papers in my hand. My father was seated behind his large mahogany desk. His face was holding a frown as he leaned back against the chair.

"What are you talking about?. Let me see," he gestured for me to place the papers on his desk. He looked at them for a few seconds before relaxing back in his chairs.

"Why did you collect such a large sum from them?. According to the bank statements the money is almost gone. What did you spend it on?," I rambled off curiously.

He pinned me with a stare."it's none of your concern"

"Father, what are you saying?. I have a right to know what's going on"

He stood up from his seat and walked over to the window overlooking the garden.

"Did you hear that Jared had forfeited his position to become the heir to the blue moon pack because he still wants to marry Tara," he asked suddenly.

I hadn't heard about it but I didn't care anyway. I am just surprised Jared had decided to stay with Tara instead. It didn't sound like something he would do.

"So. What does that have to do with what I asked you?"

"In his place the pack has appointed a new heir, one of his relatives James, but unfortunately for Jared, James has a grudge against him and is looking for a way to exile him"

"Wow, that's terrible. What will happen to them now?," I asked, genuinely feeling sorry for them.

"That's not our concern," he said, shrugging, before turning back to his chair.

I started to retreat back out of the office since I noticed my father was clearly not interested in telling me what the money was for when the phone rang. He rushed to pick it up when a man suddenly walked into the office like he owned the place. I blinked in confusion not recognizing him when I saw my father's face grow pale when he saw the man.

I walked closer to my father, staring down at my man suspiciously, making sure I had room to turn Incase the situation called for it.

"Who are you?," I questioned quietly.

The man only smirked before answering. "I think you should ask your father who am I and why am I here"

"He is James, Jared's cousin," my father stammered.

"Your father borrowed a large sum of money from my pack in exchange for your marriage to Jared but now the marriage alliance has been called off"

"What." I looked at my father in shock, suddenly realizing where the money in the reports had come from.
