Chapter 61 Too Famous?
Emily didn’t want Byron to get too upset on her behalf, and she waited until the next day to show him the message.
However, contrary to her expectations, he didn’t get upset. He was furious.
“That little sh*t! If he thinks he can write to you, he’s got another thing coming.”
He was pacing his home office, and Emily almost feared he was going to throw something.
“Even after being taken to court, he didn’t seem to get the message,” Emily complained.
“You’ve got the protection order,” Byron said, “You could show this message to the police.”
“What would be the point?” Emily sighed, “They can’t make him any less deluded.”
“They certainly can’t make him any more deluded,” Byron muttered.
“Maybe I should have kept a low profile,” Emily said, “Being a highly publicized designer and having a stalker doesn’t go hand in hand.”
“No, you can’t think like that,” Byron said, his forehead furrowing, “You can’t blame yourself for being famous. You can’t hide away your whole life. He’s the one who should go into hiding... from me, because I’m going to kick his *ss.”
“No, you won’t,” Emily said.
“You think I can’t take him?” Byron said, trying out a boxing pose.
“I don’t want you to get into a fight.” She paced the room, trying to calm her mind and think of a solution. The situation was making her jittery. “Maybe I should have one of your calming health drinks.”
“Are you serious?” Byron said, “You usually hate those.”
“Only in the mornings. It’s kind of unexpected to get one instead of coffee.” Her lips formed a tiny smile.
“I’ll gladly make one for you,” Byron offered.
“Thanks,” she said, eager to have a distraction, “Maybe I can finally learn how to make one.”
They went into the kitchen, where Byron demonstrated putting all kinds of fruits and vegetables into the blender.
“Just a touch of spinach,” he said, giving her a wink, “and then if you’re into it, a mango.”
“A mango sounds delicious,” Emily said.
The blender whirred, and a few seconds later Byron handed her the drink.
“Now this tastes amazing,” she said after taking a delicious sip. “I would love to be in the tropics right now. Wait a minute... could that be the solution to the Josh problem?”
“What, we move to the tropics?” Byron asked, looking amused.
“I just need to get away for a while,” Emily said, clutching her hair, “I can’t handle this whole thing. And you talked about going on vacation before. Maybe we should go now?”
She saw a smile spread slowly across Byron’s face. “You really mean it?”
“Yeah, if you can get away.”
“Nothing exciting is going to happen at the start of January,” Byron said, “I think the company can survive without me for a week or two.”
“Well, if yours can, so can mine,” she resolved.
“So... we’re going on vacation!”
“Yes!” Emily did a little happy dance in the middle of the kitchen. “It’s going to be so much fun!”
Byron chuckled seeing her so elated.
“So how soon do we leave?” she asked.
“How quickly can you pack?” Byron replied. “I could probably get my pilot to leave in a few hours.”
“You have a pilot on call?” Emily asked. After everything she had seen, she didn’t know if she should be surprised.
“She doesn’t work exclusively for me, but under the right conditions, she can be coaxed to take off on short notice.”
Emily pictured another attractive woman, but she didn’t even feel jealous, too excited about going on a trip together with Byron.
“And where are we going?” she asked. “Fiji? I’ve always wanted to go to Fiji.”
“I have another idea, if you’re willing to consider it,” he said, “There’s a small island in the Pacific, not far from Fiji, actually, but out of the way of too many crowds and resorts.”
“That sounds nice,” Emily said, “Don’t tell me you own the whole island too?”
“Ha! I wish. Although I do own much of the real estate there, so you could say I own about half of it.”
“I knew it! Well, I’m curious to see this island. If you invested that much money in it, it can’t be bad.”
“I can’t wait for you to see it,” Byron said. His seductive look promised a very steamy tropical adventure.
