Chapter thirty two

"What!" Denys froze."It cannot be..."

Persephone latched at the gown she was wearing, pulling it down just enough for Denys to notice purple scars hidden behind the hem of her dress. "The necklace given to me by your father when he and Hades struck a deal to keep him away from me did this. You and I both know the necklace only reacts like this when it senses Hades aura. When that girl uses magic, the necklace reacts just like it should to Hades signature magic. She is bad news son-"

"No!"Denys refused to listen to another word. It had to be some mix-up.  Deep, deep down he was afraid. Terrified, yes! Because if his mother's claims were true, Her paranoid actions would be justified. "She cannot be Hades' daughter. There has to be some mix-up mother. She is nothing like him."

"I know," Persephone admitted. "She might be innocent at the moment but her legacy runs thicker than blood. She is a pawn in Hades game and I know it."

"I still stand my ground mother. She is a Succubus. Maybe the necklace is reacting that way to dark divine magic."Denys opined, taking a shuddery breath as he pranced around the room thinking. This was why his mother had not let the girl go. She was stuck with her. His mother's unexplained disdain for the girl was beginning to make sense. If Talia found out what fate had befallen her mother, There was a high chance she could lose her humanity and become another walking chaos. What was he even saying? She would lose her humanity.  Simon was a prime example. Denys had been in the war. He had seen firsthand the damage a mad half-blood could wreck on realms and that was a middle caste god spawn. A high-ranking major God spawn would be pure chaos especially one whose rage would be directed to... This was Hades doing.

"A Succubus?..." Persephone's voice broke. "Did you say she is a Succubus?" His mother demanded in a thick croaky voice.

Ignoring his mother's question, Denys threw her a question of his own. "You are not going to hurt her, Are you?"

"I don't know Denys. I cannot let her go home and trust me, I do not want to kill her either but I will do anything to protect this realm even if it means blood would have to spill."

There are times when saying nothing was definitely the best course of action, and Denys felt like this was one of those times but he could not bring himself to do it. It was damn well his mother's fault that everything went awry despite the fluidity of the prophecy but it was of no use blaming her when the deed had already been done. So instead of playing the blame card, Denys determined the next step to take.

"We will not be killing anyone for our own mistakes mother," The Prince objected. "We- I will find a way around this. There has to be a loophole so please mother, do not do anything rash."

"I wish it was that easy Denys but it is not. This is the words of the old god we are talking about. It will come to fulfillment Denys. You already have the hots for her. It's only a matter of time."She broke off and wouldn't meet his eyes.

The glint of paranoia was unmistakable in her voice and poise. It was not just about the fate of the second realm. It worked hand in hand with the fulfillment of her age-old fate. A fate bound to her because of his grandmother's deceit. Denys walked up to her, putting a  hand on her shoulder in an effort to console her.

"Mother, please trust me. If you've managed to fight that awful prophesy for so long, We can do it again."

Tears were glistening in her eyes. "Okay. I will let you try. I am scared, Denys." She admitted. "Without your father here to come up with those smart ideas, I feel like I am slowly losing myself and this Kingdom, It's just crumbling right in me and I know the prophecy says the trident will be wielded, I am just wondering if it will be your hands or them."

"It's okay mother. I have promised you, I will wield that trident."

"I trust you."

That was all Denys needed to hear as he exited the room. He had one more stop before he could make a final decision on what exactly he would tell Talia. The truth. A half-truth or a blatant lie. Fear of the unknown surged within him as he stopped at the doorsteps of the Seer's chambers.

"Come in." A voice said just as he proceeded to knock.

Denys slowly grabbed the metal handle, opening the door when he walked in. It was dark inside considering the room was the only one in the castle that was devoid of windows. The only source of light was the scattered rays of the lukewarm sun and the light of scented candles dimly illuminated for him to make his way around the room without tripping on herbs and brews. In the heart of the darkness, a human figure moved.  The figure held on to a stick and slowly hobbled towards him.

"The Crown Prince," She began. Her pale white eyes taking hold of his soul. "To what do I owe this visit?"

"I think you know," Denys said, trying to hold unto bravery. Something within him, a hunch or whatever man called it these days told him he was going to regret his decision terribly.

The seer remained silent for the longest moment before finally speaking. "Men and gods only visit the all-seeing eye for one thing: To know the future and the fate that awaits them. So what exactly do you want to know Prince Denys?"

"I am about to make a terrible decision but it is for a good cause. Will it be worth it in the end?"

"It depends. The future is fickle. Always changing but there are some things that are just meant to be." She mused. "You intend to lie to the demigod to protect her from the truth and potentially herself."

"Yes." Denys finally admitted. "I just want to know if it will work. Even if it's just for a short time. Will it be enough to prevent the-"

"Apocalypse?" She completed for the Prince. "No. The prophecy has begun to take root in reality. No matter how hard you try, Fear will still shatter but maybe love will be strong enough to revive death."

"What is that supposed to mean?" The Prince demanded.

"There is an attraction between you two. A bond born in the stars. Beautiful and tragic at the same time. Her fate with you goes two ways. Either pure chaos or serenity. However, if your destiny is to perfectly intertwine with hers, There has to be a sacrifice. A huge price to pay for your forever."

"And what is that price?"

She immediately turned and hobbled back to the darkness. "You will know when the time comes."

Just as he had predicted. He had come in and out a bigger wreck than he was before. All Denys had on his shoulder before he stepped foot in the Seer's quarters was a simple answer to his indecision but now he had a burden on his shoulder knowing a future with his fated one was threatened and there was a chance he had inherited a dreaded fate to be unhappy just like his father.
