Chapter 66 - Life Letter

Quentin stood beside a big earthen pot in his house. He put his hand in the water inside it and ruffled the water.

He removed his hand and watched as the water settled. He laughed as images of James appeared slowly in the face of the water.

James had been bedridden.

Quentin's plan was working out as he wanted. He looked again and became more happy.

"Good job done. Michael and Julia" he laughed. "And you James, just hang on for a little while" he shook his head pitifully and left the pot.

He dipped his writing feather into an ink pot. He sat down to write on a little piece of paper.

"Do you want your son to live? Just come and fight for his life" he muttered to himself. He shook his head in disagreement.

"I should do better" he nodded and set to write on the paper. "As James is now dying, come and face me alone to save his life" he murmured again.

He felt that wasn't good enough. He should give him something he would enjoying reading and he should consider the fact that he would be writing to a king.

"I poisoned James, I want your life to give him the antidote" he giggled. "I am not very good at this. Maybe I should hire a scholar" he put a finger on his lips to think.

"It should be poetic and short. Yes, yes, yes" he continued thoughtfully.

"It has been a long time, my dear friend. I made you son what he is right now, dear friend. I want us to end our long time feuds my dear friend. By taking the life of you, my dear friend. Bye, your dear friend" he moved his hands in rhythm with his speech.

He felt this was good enough. He sat down and started writing it. He brought it up after he had finished writing it.

"This is not good. We are no longer friends" he tore the paper. He went deep in thought to decode what to do.

He would still have to write whatever he had wished. He went in search of another paper. He took a parrot from its cage.

He went back to sit down and placed the parrot in his front.

"I want to write a letter to an old friend that is now an enemy and that has been very hard for me to do. I need your help" he said to the parrot.

The parrot made some chirping noises.

"I want to invite him to a fight. It's not really a fight. I want to kill him out there. Do you understand now?" he said and shook his head.

He listened as the parrot chirped once again.

"Yes, he is my friend, we want to fight and I will kill him" he nodded.

The parrot started making its noise again.

Quentin looked more serious after listening for a while.

"Wait! Are you just repeating all what I'm saying to you?" he noticed the parrot was not really giving him answers but repeating him.

He listened as the parrot talked again.

"Okay, you are just parroting all what I am saying. I should blame myself not you" he stood up and took the bird back to its cage.

He flung it inside and locked the cage.

"I promise you, you are never going to get out of here anymore" he threatened the bird and slammed the cage closed.

The parrot mimicked everything he said and danced in the cage.

"Your case is not now" Quentin winced and left. He went back to his paper to brainstorm on what to write.

He realized he had just been bothering himself. The Alpha King was already in distress. He wouldn't even know if the letter was well written or not.

This should just be written in a way that would make him know he had no choice than to come.

"I have inflicted James with a deadly poison, If you want him saved from this poison. Travel to anywhere ten miles away from your kingdom alone. I will take your life to restore his. Your former friend that you betrayed. Quentin" he read along as he scribbled it down.

He knew the Alpha King would not only come to save his son. He would come to show that he was not afraid of him.

And when he would arrive, he would present his death to him. It would be indeed very easy

He blamed himself for not having this plan earlier.

The Alpha King was still busy looking for a way to cure his son. He didn't know which way to go about it.

"One of you out there should come in!" he bellowed to call one of the guards outside his chamber.

One of them came in instantly. He knelt on one knee before him.

"You and the others should go to the Royal Kitchen. Bring everyone that works in there to the palace hall right away" he instructed and waved at him to leave.

"Yes,your Majesty" the guard rushed out of the chamber.

They would find him who poisoned his son or they would all pay with their lives. He stood up to his closet to put on his robes and jacket. He was preparing to go to the hall.

He would not listen to anybody. He would show no mercy as they had also failed to show him mercy. He would keep tormenting until James would be fine. He decided in his mind.

A bird flew in, into his chamber through the window. He walked outward ignoring the bird. His mind impelled him to check it out.

He walked back to it and found a note attached to its body.

"Who would have sent you?" he removed the little note to read. He opened it and spread it out. He rubbed his face again and again. He couldn't believe what he was seeing.

He regulated his breaths to focus.

"I have inflicted James with a deadly poison, If you want him saved from this poison. Travel to anywhere ten miles away from your kingdom alone. I will take your life to restore his. Your former friend that you betrayed. Quentin" the Alpha King read aloud.

"Quentin?" he said thoughtfully aloud. "What do you want after all these years. I thought you have forgotten about everything" he pondered sadly.

He would do what he wanted. He would go as he had directed. He would make sure he got the remedy from him and would kill him afterwards.

And if he failed to kill him. Quentin would revive James as James had nothing to do with this. It was their war. It would be over when one of them is dead.

"You are not thinking of going to meet him, are you?" Queen Teresa startled the Alpha King as she spoke out suddenly.

"Teresa, I was startled" he sighed. "I have no choice than to do what he want. Or James will die. Teresa my only son will die" he had broken down once again.

"And he want you to lay down your life to restore James?" she asked.

Queen Teresa had obviously been listening to the letter as he read it aloud.

"That is not too much for a father. Especially if that is the price to pay for my carelessness" he said strictly. He had made up his mind.

"And what makes you so sure that he will revive James after killing you?" Queen Teresa groaned.

"Why won't he? This is a war between me and him. Once one of us is out of the surface of this earth. The war will rest" he assured her.

"So you are saying war dies after the death of those who started it?" she definitely knew that was not possible. "Are you, Henry?" she inquired.

"Stop. Teresa. Stop. It will be better if you do not try talking me out of saving my son" he retorted.

"I am not talking you out of saving your son. I'm only talking you out of putting your life in danger" she rectified.

"I will go out to meet him and it is going to be either I die or he dies. Whichever way it happens , the most important is that James lives" he discharged furiously.

"Yes you will go but you will have a back up plan that will ensure your safe return and will guarantee James life" she proclaimed.

"No. If the plan will include going out there with men or any protector. I can't do that. Quentin is a sorcerer. He will feel it and you know what that means. James will die" he said hastily.

"You should not be afraid of him and he does not hold the key to James life. You shouldn't believe that" she advised

"I shouldn't believe that?" he paused and chuckled. "He poisoned him right in front of us while we couldn't do anything and you want me to ignore his offer to give the antidote. You are joking" he said angrily and went out of the chamber.
