Zane watched as Ava rushed towards the closing shutters. Judging by the tone of her voice, she wasn’t happy about being closed in. He probably should feel bad about it, but he didn’t. Shutting her in her office would serve several purposes. First of all, he would know where she was and that that place was somewhere safe. His angel had shown him time and time again that she could not be trusted to not place herself in danger. This way Zane didn’t need to try and figure out what crazy shit she would think of. He knew she did it out of concern for others. But his angel never thought about herself. So he would do it for her. It also came with the additional benefits that he now could make sure Tom and the four men remaining in the office could keep her safe. He and Ryder walked up to Tom where he sat behind his desk.
“You know what to do if it comes to it?” Zane asked him.
“Yes boss. I’ll make sure she gets away, can access the emergency fond and the papers. She will have a new life before the dust settles,” Tom told him. Zane nodded. Tom had got his instructions regarding situations like this when he started as Ava’s secretary. Zane knew that even if the other families were scared of him, there were no guarantees in his line of work. But he had made sure his angel would be safe, no matter what. “I’ll make sure Gabriel is taken care of as well,” Tom added to Ryder. Ryder huffed.
“That stubborn boyfriend of mine will go where ever she goes, you won’t have a choice,” he told Tom. Zane chuckled as he, Jax and Ryder took the elevator down.
“Should we take 2nd street?” Ryder asked.
“Maybe Monroe?” Jax suggested. Both were streets that made little sense if they were trying to get to the mansion as soon as possible. But they all know this little show his father had put up must have a reason. One of the reasons could be to isolate the top part of the organisation and then take them out in a tidy ambush. Thus the need for unorthodox ways to get back. His father would anticipate their second or third choice.
“We could take Williams, turn into 3rd street, go to High street and take the alley behind the gym there to get to Lincon, our men should be able to tell us if they have control of the rest of the way,” Jax suggested. It was an absurd plan.
“I like it,” Zane said.
“It’s perfect,” Ryder agreed as they got in the car with Ryder in the drivers seat. As they drove, Zane and Jax reached back into the trunk to get the gear out.
“Do you need me to include Linda in the back up plan?” Zane asked Jax.
“No, Carlos is watching her, he has her locked in a supply closet. He knows what to do if it comes to it,” Jax said. Zane nodded. “Do you have a plan for if the back up plan isn’t needed?” Jax then asked. Zane looked at his friend. Ava, Gabriel and Linda would not be happy with them.
“No. I’m hoping me being alive will be enough to not have her kill me,” he said. Jax looked at him as he strapped the tactical west on himself.
“That is the worst plan ever,” he told Zane.
“Do you have a better one?” Zane asked.
“I’m just going to remind Linda that is she castrates me we can’t have kids. She really likes kids,” Jax said. It was the first time Zane had heard his friend talk about the possibility of a family.
“And you think my plan is bad? She’s a doctor, don’t you think she can find someplace to get sperm from?” Zane told his friend. Jax paled a little.
“Fuck. I really like my dick,” he said. Zane laughed.
“You are pussies, both of you,” Ryder told them from the front seat.
“You have it figured out?” Jax asked.
“Grovel. It’s the only thing to do. I have learnt from old mistakes. You have to throw your dignity out the window and just grovel like you were born to do it.” Zane and Jax looked at each other.
“Fuck,” Zane said as he realised Ryder was probably right. He wasn’t good at that sort of thing. He was in charge, he was the top dog. But if it would come to his pride or his angel, he would grovel at her feet. The drive through the city was uneventful. Ryder took a small road that ran along the foot of the hill where the mansion was. After five minutes he drove the car into a patch of flat ground in the forest. Jax handed Ryder a west, they had made sure it was stocked with what he would need and it threw it on. The three of them walked into the dark forest. It was quiet and they moved with care not to make unnecessary noise or to walk into a trap. In front of them a small clearing became visible.
“Sid,” Ryder called out in a low voice.
“Here,” an answer came. They steped into the clearing and at the same time Sid and his team of men steped into it from the other side.
“Bosses, Ryder, it’s good to see you,” Sid said.
“The same,” Ryder replied.
“And Mrs. A?” Sid asked, looking behind them. As if Zane would even consider bringing his pregnant angel into this situation.
“Safe, we have sent her to a safe location,” Zane said. He trusted his men, but Ava’s safety would come first. Better safe than sorry. Sid nodded. “What is the situation?” Zane asked.
“About thirty minutes ago a car came driving up to the gate. When the guards steped out to check it the people in the car opened fire. Ricky went down but Leo sounded the alarm and returned fire. Three more cars joined the first one, all with armed men. We have got report from two of the patrols that they have run into armed men in the woods. No one has breached the wall yet. The private staff inside has been secured in the basement and the mansion is in lockdown,” Sid told them.
“Good work. Spenser?” Zane said. Spenser stepped out from the shadows of the forest. “I need you to find out where my father is. This is all his doing. Let’s cut the head of the fucking snake. Report back to me, no capture. Just keep an eye on him,” Zane told him.
“Will do, boss,” Spenser said and melted into the forest again.
“I am tired of standing around in this fucking vegetables garden. I want inside my fucking house,” Zane told the men.
“Let’s take the side entrance,” Jax suggested and Zane grunted. There was a smaller entrance not far from Jax’s house. It was hard to find if you didn’t know what to look for and almost never used. His father would know about it, but Zane agreed with Jax, it would be their best option to get inside the wall without taking on a much larger force than they had.
“Sid. Split your team in two. One part will come with us and add to the team guarding the side entrance. The rest will keep moving through the forest. The remaining men that are outside the mansion should be arriving any moment. I want you to coordinate them and prepare an assault on the group by the main gate. Once we are inside and we have the location of my father, we will do a joint effort to wipe the little fuckers out of existence. If they think they can park on my driveway and wave their little guns around, they will learn what happens when they stick their hands into the beasts mouth. They will lose their fucking arm, and then they will lose their head as payment for being idiots,” Zane told them. The men around him grumbled in agreement. Zane knew his father would have gone in, guns blazing, to retake the front gate. He would have seen it as an offence to leave the threat in such a visible place. Zane was pissed about having his main entrance blocked. And he would make sure to remove that irritation. But he wasn’t as impatient as his father. Zane could stand the insult, for a limited time, in order to get a better grip on the situation. He saw the gain in geting all the information before striking. His father had already won one battle today, Zane was going to make sure it would be the only one.
“I will stay with the outside group,” Ryder said to Zane. Zane had preferred to have Ryder by his side, but he saw the advantages of having him on the outside. Everyone knew who he was, in times like these it was important to show that the centre of the organisation remained strong. Ryders presence would be almost as good as Zane’s or Jax’s. He nodded.
“I’m not going to fucking tell you to be safe. But I am telling you that I’m not going to deal with that firecracker of a boyfriend you have. Do with it what you will,” Zane told him. Ryder smirked. The two groups separated and Jax took the lead as they walked through the dark woods.
