32. Hacker Sam

When Kay told me she had the ways she forgot to mention that it may be illegal. As we had no way of finding out where Ryan was headed she decided the best way was to tap his phone. Apparently, she knew some people who could easily do that.

Some people turned out to be Sam from school. I had no idea that he could hack into phones or whatever he can do. Since when did he ever help Kay? That was the only thought in my head when he opened the door for us.

In the beginning, I was hesitant to tag along but when Kay assured me that nothing was going to go wrong I had no choice but to go. Damn her puppy eyes. There was also the possibility that Archer might be with Sam which scared me. What if he got angry with all the things we did? It felt awkward to even confront him because I was already with Damon.

"Who has the number?" Sam questioned as soon as we were seated in the bar stools in his kitchen. Kay got thirsty so he grunted and asked us to follow him to the kitchen. It was shocking to see them so cosy and not fighting for once. Did they make up already?

"How long have you been doing this?" I questioned once he opened his laptop. My eyes automatically shifted towards the sticker on the edge. It seemed familiar.

He tilted his head in my direction, his lips twitched, "Why? Are you planning to turn me in?"

Kay scoffed at that but made no comment, simply continued on sipping her favourite juice. Pineapple. Another shocker that Sam was able to hand her the juice without even having to ask her. He asked me for the same but I politely refuse to drink that piss coloured liquid. It was horrible.

"Please like I have not broken a thousand laws while investigating this" I huffed, shaking my head. Kay seemed amused at my reply.

Sam made a noise as he stared at me "I wouldn't have pinned you the rebellious type"

"I'm full of surprises I guess" I shrugged. The sound of his keyboards smashing filled the room and I was intrigued by whatever he was doing. My mobile phone was laying on the table with Ryan's number on it.

"That you are" Sam hummed picking the phone from the table. My eyes shifted towards Kay because I was still unsure about going ahead with the entire thing. What if somehow Ryan finds out and complaints to the police?

"Don't worry. No one will get caught. I have done it before and trust me it's safe" Sam assured me before Kay could open her mouth. I still had no idea I seen you the entire story or was simply helping us because of Kay. There were some parts I didn't want him to know simply because it was between me and Damon. Kay had to know as she was present with me on several occasions.

"Anya" Kay softly called out, placing her glass on the coaster before turning to me. She had a shiny gloss on her lips because of the juice.

"We had no other way besides Sam is rich we will easily get out of this"

Sam scoffed, "Your dad is in politics!"

"And what about it?" Kay asked, the challenge in her voice. He shook his head, not meeting her eyes but scrunching his face at something on the screen.

"Nothing"

Kay smiled amused at that and picked her glass. The dread settled in my stomach of getting caught. They were rich and could get away but what about me? My parents would actually leave me there to bear the punishment.

"I'm in!" Sam pounded his fist against the table and I snapped back to reality. Kay was grinning, a proud smile on her face at his victory. Now I was convinced that definitely, something was going on between them. There was no way that old Kay would have even tolerated seeing him smile.

"Already?" I asked staring at him

"What can I say? I am simply the best" Sam smirked, his head tilting up to look at me. Kay rolled her eyes but her mouth twitched.

"Can you see where he is headed now?" I questioned him, already standing up from my seat. Kay asked me to wait but I was too impatient and wanted to get it done as soon as I could. I leaned closer to Sam to peek at the bright screen only to see the coding in green.

"The maps loading just give me a minute" Sam informed me as if he already knew the question I was about to ask. I sheepishly nodded my head and waited there for a minute.

The ringing of my phone made me freeze. Sam handed me the phone with a teasing smile on his face. I narrowed my eyes at him as I took the phone from his hands. When I peeked at the contact name on the screen my lips pulled in a smile, cheeks heating up as I remembered the last time I was with him. Why was he calling so suddenly though? Tightening the grip on my phone I looked around.

"Damon?" Kay asked, a glint in her eyes.

"Hmm"

"Excuse me" I politely said and walked away from them. Behind me, I can hear Kay and Sam laughing about something. Probably the way I rush away so quickly.

"Hello?"

"Hey"

"What are you doing?" His question filtered through and I leaned against the couch. Sam really did have the best coach in his living room. It made me want to just lean down and take a nap for a while.

"Anya" Damon called out again when I sheepishly smiled.

"Sorry"

"Don't be. As I was asking what are you up to?"

My breathing stilled at his question and my eyes shifted around. Should I tell him the truth? He would be annoyed to know that I lied to him the night before and was with Kay and Sam. Just because I was too focused on the case.

"Nothing just working on my essay"

"What essay? I thought you were already done with your uni application"

Damn it. Why did he know so much about me? Maybe because you can't shut up around him! I snarled at my subconscious even though it was true. My most embarrassing moments were also known by him. It's just the way he is so good talking to me and wanting to know everything that I couldn't help myself.

"It's another essay, for...for Kay. She isn't sure what she should write so I'm doing a sample for her"

Damon softly laughed, "You really are a great friend she better appreciate that"

I stared in the direction of Kay and she was still staring at the screen. There was no doubt in my mind that she was the best friend I could ever ask for.

"Trust me she does"

"Good"

"So how did you call me on a weekend?"

Damon made a sound and I could already imagine him scrunching his nose at my question. He just does that every time I try to drag him. Which is a lot? He just makes it easy.

"Are you complaining that I never call you on weekend baby? If that's the case I'm happy to do that"

I felt my cheeks redden at that. The way he calls me baby makes me feel things and I think he knows that. That's why he uses it for his advantage. To make me squirm.

"Shut up"

"But I am just saying what you were thinking baby"

"Damon please"

"Okay I'll let it go this time," He said in a fake sad tone which made me roll my eyes. The way he calls me dramatic but he's the same. Even though he would never admit it he is sometimes more dramatic than I.

"Oh, so kind and mighty of you sir" I mocked him, sliding against the wall. He chuckled from the other side.

"Why thank you. I'm known for my kindness"

Rolling my eyes, I turned around to stare at my best friend in the kitchen. She showed me her thumbs in an upward direction and when I was about to get up she shook her head and muttered, "Continue"

"Always so modest you"

"I try"

Shaking my head I asked, "Why did you call anyway?"

"Uhh...I know I should have asked you early-"

"Damon what did you hide?"

He made a sound, "Why do you always assume the worst?"

"Because you have given me enough opportunities I guess"

"I'm sorry baby"

"It's alright. You were saying?"

There was heavy breathing from the other side and for a few seconds, I was scared that he might have done something. I refused to give in to my negative thoughts and just held the phone against my ear.

"I wanted to take you out for dinner"

I bit my lips at that, "Like a date?"

"Yeah like a date"

I breathed deeply not realising it that I was holding back. The room felt like it was spinning and I couldn't say anything for a few seconds. Damon really asked me for a date. What more can I want?

"Okay"

"Okay? I mean really?"

"Yeah." I giggled at his question. Of course, I wanted to go out with him and spend some time before we make it official. Even though we were mates we had to get to know each other.

"It's settled then. I'm taking you out for a date tonight"
