Epilogue: Bad boys happy ending

It felt unreal. Everything that happened didn't matter because right there, at that moment I was safe and with him. The person who loved me.

His grip tightened around my body and I sighed, inhaling his scent. My eyes fluttered open and I stepped away, cheeks tinted red as his words still echoed in my head.

"Uh..." I nervously chewed on my lips, working up the courage to confess it to him. Before I could open my mouth there was shuffling from downstairs. I raised my eyebrows in his direction and then stared back at his aunty. She was still on the ground. Colour drained my face.

"Damon I'm sorry-"

"You did what you have to. Let me handle this" He assured me and walked past me. I wrapped my arms around myself, shifting on my feet as I noticed him bent down towards his aunty's body. He checked her pulse as if to confirm if she's still alive.

"Is she okay?"

He hummed, "Just unconscious. Don't worry"

A sigh of relief escaped my lips at that. There was no way I was ready to go to jail for killing her. That woman deserved worse than death for ruining so many lives.

"Damon?" Someone whispered from the doorstep. My eyes widened when I noticed that it was Dean with Mr Smith. I nervously shifted on my feet, fully expecting Mr Smith to be angry on me for knocking out his wife.

"I'm sorry" A gasp slipped my lips as those words left his mouth. He pinched his eyebrows together as he stared at his wife and back at me.

"I had no idea that my wife was capable of doing something like this. I hope you can also forgive me for the way I treated you. It was unfair."

"Oh," I said in response looking at him without blinking. How do I respond to that? Never did I think that the man in front of me was capable of apologizing. He always let me know how he was not happy with me and his clear disdain made me question so many things. At the moment I didn't want to think about anything so I weakly slid away, nodding my head.

Even though Mrs Smith was out cold I couldn't stop shaking. The scene of her chasing me still played in the back of my mind on repeat. Dean gave me a side hug as Damon was consoling his uncle.

Few minutes passed by the medics arrived and they were able to nurse Mrs Smith back to health. Damon was ready to kill her but Dean held him back and they calmly talked to her. Seeing them like that made me realise that I was simply being paranoid when they handled it gracefully. Even with her crying and apologizing Damon called the police and I was asked to stay back for the being the witness and also victim of her attack. It was a very long day but in the end, it was worth it.

Daniel called me the next day about the article. He needed the copy for printing and I was hesitant about giving it away. The entire article was written and saved on my laptop. I had no idea why I completed it but in some twisted way, it made me sleep last night. It felt like closing a chapter.

"I don't think I can do it Daniel" I rolled my bottom lip in between my teeth. The laptop screen in front of me was bright and blinding.

He made a noise, "But you promised me, Anya. You cannot back out now. Not after I submitted my budget and everything"

Guilt swarmed me at that. He had already showed me his budget and I had the opportunity to be open about it but I turned away. Why do I always get into things like this?

"I know that I'm sorry."

"What is the problem? Did you not write the article?" He asked after a while of silence.

"No that's not it. The article is done for but I don't want anyone to read it. It's just...it's personal now Daniel"

He scoffed from the other side, his voice filled with venom, "Why? Is it because you are sleeping with the criminal?"

My teeth gritted at that. How dare he call Damon criminal? He was innocent. My blood boiled and I harshly shut the laptop in rage and pressed the phone tighter against my ear.

"He's not a criminal Daniel. He didn't do anything. Damon was wrongly accused of the crime he didn't commit. It was his aunty not him"

Daniel was quiet at my outburst before his soft voice filtered through, "I'm sorry...but that's the difference you'll make Anya. People will finally know that he's innocent and was framed for something he didn't do. You can change the way people see him. Why don't you want to do that?"

As those words rang in my ear I got quiet. He had a point. People will finally stop giving him looks. They will finally understand that he's not the dangerous criminals they think he is. No one will keep looking over their shoulder when he is around. He can finally breathe freely in the school. Why was I denying him of the freedom he deserved? The respect? The story deserved to be published, read by each and everyone who ever thought that he was capable of being a cold-blooded murderer.

"I'll do it. I'll mail you the entire article. You cannot edit anything, alright?"

Damon squealed, "I wouldn't dare to. You don't know how much you're helping me here!"

"Yeah?" I breathed

"A lot. I'll finally get those extra points to make my CV better. Also expect the print to be out by next week."

"Okay," I hummed, typing the password of my laptop. There was no use of thinking too much about it. Without waiting I sent it, chewing on my lips the entire time it was loading.

"I got it!" Daniel laughed

A few days later as I stepped into the school everyone was staring at me. They might have read the article. Most importantly I need to find Damon. Ever since that incident in his house, I didn't have an opportunity to talk to him. He was busy with his brother working alongside to build the case against their aunty.

I walked towards the cafeteria only to spot Damon. As soon as he noticed me his jaw clenched tight and he stalked towards me, his lips pressed together. My insides turned at the thought that he was going to be angry with me in front of everyone.

"Did you really write this?" He asked waving the magazine in his hand. I hummed, feeling all the eyes on me.

"Why?" He asked, his voice much softer than before.

I raised my head to meet his eyes and they were almost...fond? Wasn't he supposed to be angry at me? I looked over his shoulder to notice Kay and Sam sitting on the same table we always did, an amused smile on their faces. Did they know something I didn't? I couldn't even ask them because Damon was breathing in front of me.

"Anya" He whispered again

"Because I love you and I want everyone to love you too"

His face broke out in a smile and he pushed his lips against mine. My eyes shut tight, hands going around his shoulder for support as he started moving his lips. My toes tingled as he softly licked into my mouth. He tasted of coffee and mint. I tugged at the scalp of his hair as his hands moved toward my butt. He winced pulling back and realising that we had the audience in the cafeteria. Everyone hooted and cheered around us as I hid my face in his neck.

He chuckled as he held my waist and softly blew a breath on my ear, "Are you sure you want to others to love me like this, baby?"

My face flamed at what he was implying. I slapped at his chest and pulled back. My cheeks were probably red and lips swollen. He had glassy look in his eyes as he smiled at me, dimples forming at the corner of his lips and eyes crinkled. He was gorgeous.

"Shut up I hate you"

"No, you don't" He teased me

I sighed, "No I don't"

He took my hand and pulled me towards the table. I had things to tell him, so many but at the moment our friends were waiting for us. Kay wriggled her eyebrows as I sat down beside her.

"That was quite a show, Miss Anya"

I scoffed, "Like you both are any better at the parties"

Sam shrugged while Kay made a noise and shook her head, "I don't know what you are talking about."

"Sure you don't" I drawled when I felt someone tugging my hand. It was Damon. I raised my eyebrows at him.

"I love you" He mouthed and I smiled because that's all I wanted to hear.
