43. Bad boys confession

As the ringing continued I looked around but all I could see was darkness. Fortunately, there was a door on the other side from where I could sneak away but it led to the bathroom. I had no idea how I was going to find a werewolf.

"Hello?" The voice from the other side made me jump. I swallowed the whimper back and peeked towards the closed door.

"Anya"

I hiccuped, "H-Hello"

"Baby what's going on?" His sultry voice filtered through and I could hear rustling from his side like he was inside a moving vehicle.

"Your aunty- she..." I tried to gasp for breath as the growl from downstairs shook me. Clutching the phone tighter I blinked back the tears forming in the corner of my eyes. Was she already searching for me? I thought my knees pressed tighter.

He softly hummed at my silence, "Baby I want you to take a breath for me, okay? Can you do that?"

I nodded my head and then realised that he could not hear me. It still felt surreal that I was stuck in a situation like this. His aunt was waiting to kill, probably even more motivated than before because I spilt tea filled with silver on her face. According to the website, I read the werewolves have a certain weakness with pure silver metal. That's why I decided to try that on her. It worked definitely but also fueled her already existing anger.

"Anya" He whispered softly

"Yeah" I breathed out

"Okay then. Take a deep breath in"

I inhaled sharply, pressing my phone against my ear tightly and trying not to focus elsewhere. The ticking sound of the clock in his bedroom was distracting but I concentrated on the breathing from another side.

"And out"

I exhaled softly. My heart was beating rapidly, the thumps echoing around the room.

"Now tell me what's going on?" Damon questioned after I managed to take a few more breaths. I slid back against the wall, trying to get comfortable as much and quiet so that his aunty cannot hear my voice.

"Your aunty...Mrs Smith...she's the real murderer. I know you told me not to go ahead and stay away from the case but I couldn't do it Damon" I sighed, twisting the loose strands of hair around my finger, rocking back and forth on my toes with each breath.

"I know" He gritted his teeth which made me quirk my eyebrows. How did he find out about his aunty? Did he talk to Carlos? So many questions were running inside my head and before I could ask him about it he beat me to it.

"After that drama in front of Ryan, he let his guard down in front of me." I stilled at those words. Blinking back the tears in my eyes I hummed waiting for him to continue.

"He was convinced that I was not suspecting him in any manner and he got sloppy. I took his phone while he was in the meeting and planted a recording device through which I was able to find out everything"

"I'm so sorry about it" I whispered softly. He didn't deserve that. No one did. The people he had been staying with, his own aunty was the killer. She was the reason he lost his parents and had to spent some of his years in prison. How would anyone console him?

He cleared his throat, "It's not your fault. I have to apologise-"

A loud growl made me jump from the spot. The sound of glass smashing echoed around and I held my breath. Did his aunt finally found her way? The crashing sound continued and I could hear Damon's voice filter from the phone. I shakily managed to push the phone against my ear, my breathing ragged and short.

"Was that her?"

"Yeah...I'm scared, Damon"

He sharply breathed, "Don't be. You can handle it, Anya. There's nothing you cannot do. Trust yourself"

Tears flowed down my cheeks as I snorted, "Except fighting a werewolf. She's going to kill me, Damon"

"No" He yelled frantically before covering up with a cough, "Nothing is going to happen to you. Just talk to me I'm on my way"

Wiping at the tears I let out a sigh, "I should have not trusted her. When I got the call earlier and she said it was urgent I got scared. I didn't want to lose you and I couldn't think straight. I'm sorry"

It felt so stupid to say it aloud. How was I so naive? Why couldn't I understand that it was just some stupid game plan? Not only I landed myself in the mess but also Damon. He was rushing from wherever he was just to get me safe and secure.

"Stop it" He grunted from the other side, his voice was authoritative and sharp. It made me squirm in my seat. Shivers racked down my body but it made me feel distracted for those few seconds atleast.

"It's not your fault. Not one bit. Do you understand that? You thought that I was in trouble and your instinct was to help me. It's not stupid. Yeah? Do you agree it's not your fault?"

At his question, I got quite again. He did have point but I wasn't fully convinced. Some part of me still blamed me for not thinking rationally.

"Say it, Anya"

"What?"

"Say that it's not your fault" He insisted. The crashing sound from downstairs got louder which made me fist my pants tighter. A sharp sound echoed against the door followed by a knock.

"She's here Damon" I softly whimpered, holding my phone closer to my mouth.

"Just a few minutes, baby. I'm here"

The banging on the door continued which made my stomach flip. With each sharp knocks, I could feel my hands get cold and heartbeat rising. Was I going to die? The thought suddenly popped in my head. If I was going to die anyway then there's something I needed to tell him. Something that he needed to know if he actually loved me too.

"There's something I want to tell you, Damon-"

He choked, "No"

My face fell at that and I swallowed the lump formed in the back of my throat. Does that mean he didn't love me back? Then why would Dean say that?

"No?"

He hummed, his voice high, "You are not dying there. Do you hear me? You are going to fight her till I get there? I want to hear those words in person Anya. You understand that?"

The sound of latch turning made my ears ring. She was here. Her maniac laughter floated through the air, "Miss Anya are you hiding?"

"Open the door, Anya. There's someone here to see you" She said in a mocking tone and then giggled. Her voice sent shivers down my spine and I stared back at the closet shelf. I slapped a hand over my mouth and muted Damon from the other side.

"Anya!" She yelled, banging the door violently

"This is not nice. You cannot lock me out of my own house. Damon wants his room back Anya. Open up" More bangs followed when she finally clicked open the lock and the door smashed against the wall.

As her heels clinked closer I managed to push myself up and took a few steps back, still hunched down.

"I know you are here. I can sense your smell" Mrs Smith laughed again, pushing at the lump on the bed. I almost wanted to scoff at how stupid she thought I would be to hide on the bed, under the covers.

Moving back I crashed into the door which made her alert. Before she could move towards the bathroom door I swiftly pushed it open and locked myself inside.

"Clever girl" Mrs Smith laughed as she banged at the door, missing me by few seconds.

"Open up Anya it's not fun anymore!" She growled pushing at the door.

I took deep breaths, pressed against the door when my eyes fell on the silver rods. They were used as towel stand but maybe they could hurt her as much as pure silver.

"Damon?" I softly called but there was no moment from the end. That's when I noticed that there was no cell reception in the bathroom.

"Fuck!" I thought to myself and without hesitating walked towards the stand. Getting on my toes I managed to pull the rod in one quick move and rushed towards the door again.

As the door clicked open with my eyes clenched I swung the rod and hit her. A scream tore her lips and she staggered back at the impact, loosely trying to hold onto something before tripping on the stand of bed. Her feet got entangled and she fell on the floor with a heavy thud. I gasped at the sight in front of me, frozen on my spot. Did I kill her?

As she did not respond for a few seconds I stepped out of the bathroom and quietly towards the limp body. Before I could bend down, the window shattered and Damon jumped on the floor. At the sound, I jumped in shock and my eyed widened at him.

"You're fine!" He cried out rushing towards me. With tears in my eyes, I nodded my head, flinging myself in his arms.

"You're fine you're fine" He blabbered as he tightened his grip on me and started pressing kisses in my hair. My eyes closed as I inhaled his scent and dropped the rod I was holding in my hand.

"I love you" He whispered, pushing his face in my neck.
