Late for interviews?

It didn't take long before I got ready, I chatted a little with Mrs. Smith before I stormed out dressed in a light blue strapped dress with white sneakers, my red hair was tied in a high ponytail, and took an early bus to school

My arrival attracted a lot of attention, in the past they were of administration and envy but this time the gazes I got were of disdain. Hate and disappointment. I walked in with my head lowered holding my small purse close to me and went straight to the principal's office. I had to wait outside her office because when I arrived she was attending to someone.

I sat there anxiously not sure what awaited me inside. My heart raced at the thought of bad news from the school. I knew I messed up big time but it wasn't my fault that our school lost the game. I felt sad just hearing it from students. I sighed as I looked at my watch and it was nearly 8 AM. I was running out of time

"Ms. Payton...the principal is calling for you" after what seemed like forever, I was called in and without wasting time I entered the principal's office. I was so nervous that I could collapse any time soon

"Take a seat Ms. Payton"our cold icy queen principal as we called her said without looking at me and gestured for the wooden chair opposite her table. I slowly walked to the chair and carefully sat down. I was anxious to know what she was going to tell me. She was busy signing some papers hence I had to wait for her to finish

After a while, she was done, shoved her files aside, adjusted her specs, and looked at me. She was as cold as ice. With no smile on her face. She was a little mean, which she musked up just being strict as someone who managed the biggest school in the city. She always said I was lucky to be at such a prestigious school getting a good education. She never ceased to remind me that I was poor without a good bank balance

I paid my fees in installments and sometimes not at all. I knew what was coming next, I failed to keep the end of the deal when she handed me a white A4 paper. With trembling hands, I took it from her not sure if to read it or not

"Ms. Payton I had a word with the accountant...our school board of directions and we came to a final agreement"the lady started saying as she put her hands together with her elbows resting on the wooden table. I swallowed hard as I fixed my eyes on the amount of money I owed the school. I felt my heart twisting, my chest tightened knowing full well I owned a lot of money

"I'm sorry dear but you failed to live up to our expectations...we gave you a way out of this but...you failed"She added when she noticed how heartbroken I was. It wasn't my fault, I was ready for this to perform to my great best unfortunately my ankle made it impossible. I was devastated as sweat dripped down my face. I could imagine getting kicked out of school all because I couldn't pay the fees.

"P...please...it wasn't my fault...I got hurt and I…''I tried to say defensively, I'm sure they knew and saw what happened. I was attacked and got hurt

"Ms. Payton I'm sorry you owe our school so much money please leave...we can't have you here... other students pay to learn here...if we decide to let you learn for free then would it be fair"just like that I have shattered again. Everything was falling apart just when I thought things were getting better.

I dragged myself out of her office, keeping my head down not sure what went wrong. What happened for everything to fall apart. I had so many expectations and plans but I watched all of them come crashing down before my eyes. I had nothing left

I took the things I left the previous day, including my phone. I was tired once more but I decided to go and interview for a surrogate. I was a little late but I was certain they would pardon me

I took a taxi to the address I was given, to my surprise, it wasn't far from where I was. But I didn't imagine being late by 10 minutes would cost a lot

"I'm so sorry miss...your appointment was canceled...our boss is busy".
I was devastated, the receptionist lady didn't even wait for me to tell her what I wanted, I was sure she was looking down on me. Yes, I wasn't as classy or elegantly dressed as her or worked in such a prestigious company but I had to say the place was my dream company. I've always wished to work in such a company all my life and when I finished college I had so many plans for my future. All I asked her for was a second chance to talk to her boss. I knew I was late but it was just for ten minutes they could reconsider

"Please Miss...this isn't your house okay...leave before I call security"the lady spat out bitterly, she had a disdainful expression as she fixed her cat-like eyes on me. I failed to understand why she was acting as if I was there to steal her job

"I know this but just one minute let...let me see your boss" I pleaded again, I wasn't going to leave without talking to her boss, the doctor told me they needed a surrogate and I wanted to be that surrogate. This was my last chance to earn something for myself but the brown-haired lady was refusing "see...see this...the doctor told me to show you this" when she wasn't paying attention to me, I dug in my purse and retrieved the card I was given by the doctor and showed it to her. The lady shifted her eyes to the card and I hoped she would soften her heart unfortunately I was wrong. The lady was a natural witch, she didn't even look twice as she averted her eyes and yawned lazily while waving me off.
She was elegant, with long lashes, a cute round face and full lips painted red. Her brown hair was rich and full which fell to her shoulders and the blue suit she was wearing fit her perfectly.
Of course, she was doing her dream job, working and she didn't have to worry about anything.
I was embarrassed especially when a few employees passed by looking at me with awkward expressions. I felt like a total joke, what was I thinking coming to such a place. Even if I begged no one would listen to me. I was defeated for the first time. I felt like I lost.
Turning away from the reception I lazily held my course with my right hand and started walking away. My eyes looked down at the card in my hand and without knowing where I was going, I bumped into someone and the car in my hand slipped and fell to the floor

"I'm so sorry...my bad...here" I heard a woman say as she lowered down to pick up my card just when I was about to however she beat me to it and straightened up so did I

"Thanks" I muttered without even looking at the lady but one thing stopped me, she didn't let go of the card which had me thinking hence I slowly lifted my head only to find a beautiful woman, she was medium fat, with big curves which showed in the short black skirt she was wearing with a pink tuck-in a shirt.
She had beautiful dark hair which fell in waves and a heart-shaped face that made her stand out. She had her eyes on the card. My eyes narrowed when she looked up at me and scanned me from head to toe as if she were some sort of machine

"So are you leaving?"To my surprise, the lady asked me while handing me the card and I nodded helplessly and shoved the card back in my purse. The other one was rude to me, and this one was mocking me. Was I a joke to them? but to prevent further complications and just when I turned to head out, the lady spoke
"Umm, if you are still interested I'm here to guide you...I'm Beverly...please pardon my manners but this card belongs to doctor Justin and I'm sure you are here for the surrogate interviews" she said with her hands moving in the air as if accompanying her words and I was stunned, that I quickly turned around with amusement on my face.
My eyes shone with delight and she was laughing. I couldn't help but want to hear more but the lady just laughed and gestured for me to follow her and I did before I glance back to the lady in the reception but she just rolled her eyes in annoyance and got back to her work
