Cracked Shell pt.1
**Trevor POV **
"I'll keep that in mind, dear Princess." My own blood to love and take care of. A reason for everything I'm doing to make the world safe...a family of my own waiting for me..."Why don't you go get settled in? We'll discuss this further tonight in your chamber?"
"I'm staying with you." She put her hands on my shoulders. "And I don't want to wait."
Could God give me a more giant neon freaking light flashing in front of my face? All its' arrows pointed to me giving up on Natalie and focusing on the well-groomed beauty in front of me.
Before I realized she had gotten to her tiptoes, Lydia's lips were pressed firmly on mine. Sparks didn't fly. My dick barely hardened. Like all the previous women, I only reacted to the tortured soul of my obsession.
Damn it! I growled and shoved her against the pillar. She melted into me, letting my hand trail up the side of her body. The heavy perfume on her almost made me gag, but I forced the disdain from my face. Instead, I placed soft kisses along her jawline, working my way down to her neck. "Let's go to your chambers." she gasped when I finally felt something happen below my belt.
This was my chance to move forward. But first, I had my mission.
I backed away from Lydia. As I turned on my heel, she latched onto my hand and placed it by her skirt. The Princess was very desperate for me indeed.
"Um…Sir, I mean Prince Trevor, I hate to interrupt, but we have an emergency." Two knights sweating in their thick armor clanked up to us. "We found bodies in the Queen's courtyard. Two."
The Queen's courtyard… two bodies…
Fuck Natalie! The assassin must have assumed she was part of the royal family!
"Take me there now!" I was damn near hysterical. I left her there even after giving her my word last night. And someone touched her, hurt her again!
A tug halted my steps. "You are supposed to protect me. It's your job!"
"My job is to be in charge of your security detail and to find this assassin." I gritted my teeth. Bad timing on the princess' end.
Quickly I searched for anyone trustworthy to watch her for a few hours. I didn't know the men in from of me. Dang, it! I didn't have time to waste.
Anxiety was nipping at my heels. I was ready to fly out of this castle like a freaking pixie hyped up on an energy drink. I wouldn't care if I looked like the girliest pixie with giant pink glitter wings as long as I could get to my Cupcake. She could still be breathing but running out of time.

The door opened again as Aileen exited the throne room. The family was flanked by two table knights. Kalum rested in Aileen's arms, napping, and Shion was escorting his Mom.
God loved me again!
"Dear sister, who loves her dear brother so very much!" I was speaking fast and barely pronouncing my words.
She scowled at me, knowing she had to play her role in front of these men. "How may I be of service to Prince Trevor, formerly of the Hemmer household."
"I do so humbly request you watch over my princess while I seek out this rogue assassin threatening Lutz's peace."
"I do so regret to inform you that I can not. There is research I must attend to, but I would be honored if you humbly accepted these veteran knights. I can assure you, Princess of Krennan, they are trustworthy and strong." Aileen curtsied to the other Princess.
Lydia pouted, "if they are so good, why do you not require their services. Is the strong-arm Princess too masculine for them to handle?"
She waved her hand, ignoring Lydia's outburst, and addressed her escort. "Protect Princess Lydia. Should anything undesirable befall her... you all remember what happened to Sir Alaric."
She was threatening them; her tone made the hidden promise clear.
Rushing through the remaining pleasantries, I kissed Lydia on the cheek. Her face lit up. "See you tonight." I then waved to Aileen. "See you at the banquet, sis!"
I flew all the way to the garden. Both men fell behind, their armored feet clanked on the flagstone several halls away from me. As I passed the portraits of the previous Queen of Lutz, I could feel sweat dripping from my forehead, stinging my eyes.
At the courtyard door, a new guard was stationed. His shoulders were a bit too squared when we approached. The man must have heard about the recent assassination. Was it under his watch?
"Unlock the door!"
He shook terribly as I approached. "Sir Trevor! It is not…a peaceful scene…t…two corpses are…by the pond…their assailant escaped…"
*Corpses.*
