Chapter 10: No Regrets
Zenobia's POV
I was freaking out. I snuck out of Kyle's bed and went back to my very own where sleep didn't welcome me.
I was up for the remainder of the night contemplating on the encounter I shared with Kyle.
"What's wrong with you, Zen?" I spoke to myself. I reached for my phone and dialled my best friend who answered after the second ring with a heavy sleepy voice.
"Zen, this better be an emergency," she growled.
"Tiff, it is," I answered.
"What? What's going on? Who's hurt?"
"My vagina."
"What?"
"Girl, I need your advice."
"Zenobia, what's going on?"
"I slept with him."
"Oh my gosh Zen! How could you! You can't move on with your life if you're going to let that asshole get into your panties when he feels like it."
"I'm not talking about Jake."
There was a gasp and a pause. "Then who are you talking about?"
"My.. my.. umm.."
"Bitch, your bodyguard?"
"Yesss," I let out.
"Oh shit! Damn! Girl, was it good?"
"Tiff!"
"Zen, please tell me you put it down on him and made him exhausted afterwards."
"Tiff, what am I going to do, how do I face him afterwards?"
"Make him your man and live your best life, Zen. Grow older together. Get married. Have some kids. Everyone thinks life is so complicated when we're the ones responsible for our own happiness but it's like we're scared of making ourselves happy."
"When did my bestie get into philosophy?"
"Let's just say you're not the only one putting guys to bed. As a matter of fact, he's asleep next to me right now."
"The guy from the club?"
"Yes. He's such a darling."
"Well I'm not going to keep you any longer. Go do that," I finished with a laugh.
"And Zen, please don't act as if nothing happened between y'all. Invite him for brunch or lunch or dinner or to an event. He seems like a great guy. And attractive too. If you don't grab him, someone else will."
We hung up but her words stayed with me. At daylight, I had my personal chef come over to prepare a luncheon and I invited Kyle over.
Lunch was outdoors. It was a beautiful and sunny Sunday afternoon. The chef and assistant chef set the table and lined it with the best soul food.
Corn-on-the-cob, pineapple baked chicken, fried chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, macaroni pie and a lasagna dish. And for drink, we were having orange juice.
Kyle came with a smile on his face as he joined me at the table. He looked so tempting in a baby blue T-shirt, jeans and sandals.
"Hi," he greeted.
"Hi," I answered back. The chef handed us our napkins lastly before leaving our presence.
"How are you?" I asked him while picking up a fork.
"I'm okay. You?"
"Likewise," I answered. The tension was thick. I knew he wanted to address last night and so did I but I wanted him to start first.
He took a mouthful of mashed potatoes. Silence hung in the air. Only our utensils were heard as they clinked against the plates.
"Kyle," I finally spoke, "About what happened between us."
He looked at me.
"I don't know what to say about all of it," I continued.
"So it meant so little to you?"
"Of course not," I truthfully answered. The way he made me felt last night was indescribable. Just by thinking about it, my body was heating up for more of him.
I crossed my legs and focused on eating.
"Then, where do we go from here because I would like to know where I stand with you."
"We should take things slow, Kyle. I just got out of a relationship and you're not interested in being the rebound guy so we should really start by getting to know each other in our adult lives and see where this goes. Is that okay?"
"I like the sound of that."
We smile, scoot closer to each other, held hands and continue our luncheon.
~
The day was too beautiful to waste. Kyle and I went into the pool and played around like two teenagers in love.
"Zenobia Miracle Hollen," a voice spoke and all fun came to a halt. I looked up from the water and my mother was there staring at us, tapping her foot with folded arms.
We quickly got out from the pool and I looked around for my father.
"Your father isn't here," mom spoke.
"Hi mom. I didn't know you were coming," I said. I wrapped with a towel and handed one to Kyle.
"Good afternoon Mrs. Hollen," he said to my mom and held out his hand. Mom returned the gesture.
"How do you do?" she said.
"I'm okay. I'll excuse myself."
We nodded and Kyle left.
~
My mother and I went inside. I changed into dry clothes and we sat down in the living room.
"Babygirl, you're lucky your father decided to stay behind. What's going on between you and your bodyguard?" mom asked.
"We're friends, mom. You know we have always been friends and we were just catching up."
"He's a fine young man. Just be careful, okay baby? And whatever happened to Jake?"
"I called it off with him."
"Why wasn't I aware of this breakup?"
"I'm sorry. I should really spend more time with you so you can catch up with my life. I felt like I couldn't trust Jake anymore. Something isn't settling whenever he's around me or out of the country."
"I completely understand. It's the woman's intuition we were blessed with."
I smiled at her. We chatted some more then she left and I immediately went to find Kyle.
He was in his guest house, reading a book by a window. I came from behind and covered his eyes.
"You might want to turn down on the Chanel. I smelled you as you walked through the door," he said. I laughed and uncovered his eyes.
He marked the page before closing the book and turning to me. He wrapped his arms around my waist and drew me in.
"Everything okay?" he asked.
"Everything is great. But I missed you."
He smiled and hoisted up my dress and planted kisses on my stomach. Butterflies formed inside of it and a heat made my body crackled with electricity as he went lower. He parted my panties to the side and gently rubbed his finger on my most sensitive spot.
"Kyle," I let out in a soft whisper. He pinned me against the wall with my arms above my head. He held me in that position and with his free hand, he caresses my body which was already awaken.
"We're so doing this again and again! I want you!" I said.
He picked me up and carried me into the bedroom.
~
Hours later, we were exhausted from going at it four times.
"Zen, I want to be with you. I want to be your man. We can still take it slow but I'm much more comfortable with having a title than being call a friend because I don't have sex with my friends," Kyle spoke.
I heaved a sigh and tried to tidy my hair without a response.
"Zen, did you hear me?" he spoke firmly.
"I heard you."
"And? What's your answer?"
"The answer is No, Kyle. I'm just not ready for another man in my life right now."
