Chapter 39: Without The Guy
Zenobia's POV
I was somewhat enraged as I headed to my best friend's office. It was Monday and I disliked Mondays.
I opened the door and saw her talking on the phone. I sat down and waited for her to end the conversation.
"Thanks for calling," she said before putting down the receiver.
"Hi Zen," she started, turning her attention to me now.
"That was really something you pulled over the weekend, Tiff."
"Hey, I was doing you a favor."
"Oh really. You put me on the spot, Tiff."
"Zen, look at yourself. You're miserable without him in your life and him not even being at your side."
"I'm doing just fine without the guy."
"You were literally crying over him. You miss him. Put that tough pride aside and tell him how you really feel."
"I thought I did that already."
"And? You haven't even given me the details about the dinner. You're just ready to attack me and be all belligerent."
"Forgive me," I said with a small smile.
"Girl, I'm team Kyobia," Tiff said, causing me to laugh loudly.
"Please don't ever say that again," I said after catching my breath, "That was terrible."
"I thought it was cute."

Kate's POV
I had returned back to my own apartment from visiting my brother and was greeted by my ex-girlfriend, Trish.
"Hey, you. I got you an apple pie," she said and handed it to me as we headed up the steps to my front door.
"Thanks. Did you make this?"
"Of course yes. So, how was your trip?" she asked. I put the key into the lock and opened the door.
Home sweet home.
"Can't complain," I answered. I headed to the kitchen and placed the apple pie on the counter. I heaved a sigh from exhaustion.
"You look awfully tired," Trish said as she moved closer to me.
"Don't even think about it!" I cautioned her.
"Bae, are you still mad at me?"
"Don't call me bae, I'm not your bae! And hell yes, I'm still mad at you. You weren't honest about who you were and of all the people, you tried to get my...."
"I told you I wasn't a lesbian. I'm bisexual and I didn't know Kyle was your brother!"
"Y'all almost had sex!"
"We were young and dumb.. and drunk."
"If I hadn't walked in..." I said, slamming my hands down on the counter top.
"Baby, that was years ago. He had stop being friends with his best friend and was going away to college. He came over to visit. We were talking, drinking and just started making out. I'm sure not even he could remember."
"That's really cute, Trish. My brother and my girlfriend. Classy."
"Hey, you were the one keeping things between us a secret because you were scared of coming out. You even started dating that loser, Frank!"
"Don't fucking raise your voice at me. You should take your pie and leave."
A knock came to my door. I opened it and rolled my eyes.
"What do you want, Tasha?" I rudely asked.
"So hostile for no reason. I just came over because I saw you pulled up a moment ago. I missed you, girl."
Trish walked to the front door and saw Tasha there. We were all next door neighbors but I strongly considering moving. I hated having to deal with people I didn't want to deal with and they were too slow to take a hint.
Tasha was cuban American. Her parents were wrongly mistaken for two other people and were gunned down by gangsters right in front of Tasha when she was a child. She was moved from East LA after the incident and grew up with her aunt in my neighborhood which was safer.
"How's your brother?" she asked me. She always had a crush on Kyle. Even stalked him a few times when he was at college.
"Kyle is great," I answered.
"He has a girlfriend by now or nah?" she asked again.
"I'm pretty sure you would want to know that."
"I do. I like your brother. You know I always had a crush on him."
"What I remember is you stalking him."
We all laughed.
"It wasn't like that though. He likes me. Le gusto," she inputted.
"Uh-huh. Stop inquiring. He's fine. That's all you need to know."
"So he's single. Amma find out where he's staying and pay him a visit."
"Stalker, leave my brother be! Geezz. Everyone wants Kyle."

Zenobia's POV
After work, I headed over to Tiffany's where we could sit down, have some wine and talk further.
"We need a plan," she said as we got settled in. She bought out the wine and poured me a glass.
"We ain't need shit. I'm letting him be."
"Zen, you want to guy."
"If I did, I would match to his apartment, pound on the door and heave into his arms as he opened it. I would burst my top off, remove my skirt and shoes and start kissing him with passion and hunger. Then I would let his hands run all over me because I know he wouldn't be able to resist my lips any further. I know he would lift me up and take me into his bedroom and remove my bra and panties and devour me until his beard was wet. And then he would have his way and I would have mine on top on him." I crossed my legs as the perfect image played in my mind and caused a ripple through my body.
"Well, to hell with what I was coming up. I like yours better. Now, go do that shit."
"Tiff! I can't."
"Oh, you need some more wine, huh. Drink up."
We laughed and talked until it was dark out and time for me to leave. I got into my car and drove.
*
*
I wasn't heading home. I was heading to Kyle's place.
~
"What are you doing, Zen, What are you doing?" I asked myself as I drove onwards.
Soon enough, I arrived to the parking lot of his apartment complex. I parked my car, got out, straightened my clothes and my posture and went to knock on his door.
"You can do this," I spoke to myself again. I knocked.
I heard footsteps coming to the door. It unlocked and swung opened.
Kyle was standing at the threshold.
"Zenobia, what are you doing here?"
"This," I answered and immediately threw myself at him. I paved his face with kisses as he tried to dodge from total surprise.
"Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. What's going on with you?" he asked.
"I want you back," I answered. I unbuttoned my top.
"Zenobia. You need to stop."
"Don't tell me to stop. I don't want to."
"Zen, I've never seen you act like this. What's going on with you, have you been drinking?" he asked as he captured my hands and studied my face, "You have, haven't you. And you drove here like this?"
He walked outside and peered over the railings in search of any security.
"I'm by myself," I answered.
"Zen. This isn't you. I'm disappointed."
"Kyle! I want you back!"
"And you think drinking and showing up here and throwing yourself at me would get me back, huh?"
I felt foolish. My common sense came back at once and the drunk flew away.
"What am I doing?" I asked myself. I buttoned my top and circled my waist with my arms as if I was cold.
"Zen."
"I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have come here. I'll leave."
"No. You're tipsy. You're not going anywhere. You're going to stay here and sleep it off."
"Kyle, it's not your job to protect me anymore."
"Oh really. Have you seen the contract I signed with your dad. If I'm present and you're in danger, I still have to intervene whether I'm your bodyguard or not. And right now, you're drunk. If you meet in an accident and your father finds out you were here and I was aware of your condition and I allowed you to drive, my ass is toast. So no, you're not leaving. You can have the bedroom, I'll have to couch."
