Chapter 47: You Don't Say
Zenobia's POV
I woke up to the ringing of my cellphone on the nightstand next to my bed. I groaned, sat up and answered.
"Zen, I know you didn't quit Hollen Tower and not tell me about it!" Tiffany spoke.
"I...."
"Nope. Zip it. I'm in the car and heading your way right now. Notify your security." She hung up and I informed the security unit that was going to be visiting.
I gazed at the clock, rolled out of bed, took a warm shower, got dress and headed downstairs to breakfast.
~
" Good morning, Miss. Hollen," Jordan greeted as he appeared in the kitchen whilst I was having a cup of coffee.
"Good morning."
" Just a reminder that I would be out for the morning period. In the meantime, if you're heading out, I would advise you to have someone from the security unit with you."
"I'm not going out today," I said. He nodded and then left.
~
As I was done with breakfast, Tiffany arrived.
"Everyone at HT is talking about this, Zen," she informed as we sat down on the couch, "They're saying you quit. Others are saying you were fired by your own father. Zen, what is going on?"
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you, that I left you in the dark on this. I wasn't fired. I was suspended by my father."
"Oh thank goodness. When are you coming back though?"
"That's the thing. I'm not coming back."
"What? Why the hell not, Zen, Hollen Tower is...."
"Please spare me the lecture, Tiff. I'm aware what Hollen Tower is."
"Okay. I'm bemused right now. Girl, what are you going to do?" she asked turning to face me with wide eyes.
"I'm going to show you."
We headed upstairs to my master bedroom and I retrieved my computer. I showed her my business plan and explained each process.
"Well, Hollen Tower better expect my resignation letter because I'm definitely working for you," she said in excitement as I closed the laptop once we were through.
"Tiff, you don't have to do that."
"You're my best friend, and you're like a sister to me. Of course I want to be by your side. Sink or swim."
"Sink or swim."
We hugged.
_______________
Jordan's POV
"What the hell took you so damn long, Jordan?" my girlfriend, LaTasha asked as she got into the car.
"Sorry. I had to..."
"I don't care. Just get me there!" she yelled.
She was furious and it was my fault. I overslept.
I drove us towards the doctor's office. Upon getting there, I held the door open for her and she got out. We walked up the steps and pushed in the door.
"LaTasha, right this way," the doctor's receptionist immediately said as we walked in, "The doctor is expecting you."
"Thanks."
~
We knocked on the doctor's door before entering.
"Good morning," Dr. Richards greeted.
"Good morning," we responded.
"Right this way." We followed him into another room. LaTasha was instructed to lay on her back onto a small hospital bed and lift her T-shirt up.
I watched as the doctor applied the ultrasound gel to her stomach then held onto the transducer. He placed it gently to the area of the gel and within a few moments, an image popped up on the monitor.
"There's your baby," the doctor said to us.
I couldn't stop my smile and the butterflies. I was happy. I was going to be a dad.
"Is it a boy?" I asked, smile not fading.
"It's too early to tell you the sex of the baby. LaTasha is only five weeks pregnant," he informed me.
"I'm so happy right now. Thank you so much doctor."
"Everything looks wonderful. I would have your prenatals in a bit." He handed LaTasha a tissue to wipe the gel. I took it and did it instead as she sat up.
"Thank you Dr. Richards," I said as he left the room.
"Baby, I'm so happy," I said as I turned to LaTasha, "I can't wait to meet our bundle of joy."
"Yeah."
"What's the matter, you've been down since morning. We just got exciting news. You're pregnant and the baby is doing great."
"Jordan, I have every right to feel the way I'm feeling right now. I am not ready for all of this with you and I'm damn not sure I even want this baby."
"LaTasha, what are you saying to me right now?" I asked her, excitement coming to a cease.
"Don't even worry about it."
"What do you mean don't worry about it, of course I'm going to worry. You're my girlfriend."
"Exactly. I'm just your girlfriend. You think I want to be labeled as baby mama?"
"I know you don't and either does I, but I've recently started the new job and it's going to take some time before I'm stable enough to engage and give you the big wedding of your dreams, baby. Please try to understand that."
She huffed, got off and bed, got her vitamins from the doctor and walked out of the office. I tailed after her, calling her name.
"Why don't we spend the day together, today?" she asked.
"Where?" I asked her.
"Hombre eres lento. At your place."
"I don't have a place, Tash."
"Where do you sleep, Jordan?"
"It's not my place. It belongs to my boss."
"And who is she?"
"I can't tell you that. And I can't take you onto her premises, especially without her permission or invite."
"Whatever. Take me to my job then. I have to collect my check from my boss."
I drove her to her job and waited in the waiting room area for her return and that was when Kyle walked up to me.
I chuckled as he approached.
"Jordan," he greeted.
"Kyle," I answered.
"How are you?"
"What's it to you?"
"Jordan, look, I'm sorry for whatever you think I did to you, bro."
"Don't call me that. I'm not your bro."
"How's Zenobia?"
"You have got to be kidding me! You're seriously asking about her after what you caused?"
"What I caused?"
"Oh, I forget how dense you can be at times. That little stunt you pulled on her grandfather's yacht, she got drunk over you. And that lead up to her suspension. Indirectly, it's your fault so don't even think of saying it isn't."
"I wasn't going to say it wasn't my fault. I have to apologize to her."
"Nah. You're going to stay the hell away from her. She's fine without you. Go lock lips with the other woman in your life."
"I don't have anyone else, Jordan. I still have feelings for Zen."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. He was standing in my face, lying to my face.
"Who was that woman you were with?"
"That was all my boss' idea. The lady was her niece. I wasn't even aware it was a Hollen function."
"So you're banging your boss' niece?"
"What, hell no. Listen, that Saturday was my day off. My boss and her niece had to attend the event but she called me to take her place instead. Her niece has a crazy crush on me since she laid eyes on me. She told me it was some kind of couple retreat on a romantic yacht and that I should play the part of being her date or else she was going to tell her aunt on me."
"Wow. You had time to plan your excuse and that's the story you came up with?"
"Jordan, it's the truth. You have to believe it."
"I don't have to do shit and I don't want to be caught between yours and Zenobia Hollen's drama. I'm here for my girlfriend only. Not your sob story."
"Your girlfriend works here?"
As he asked that, LaTasha walked towards me. She halted when she saw Kyle and I standing side by side.
I paid attention to Kyle's body language and noticed a hint of panic on LaTasha's.
I took LaTasha to the car and sat behind the steering wheel.
"What are you waiting for, let's go," she said.
"Not before you tell me what's going on between you and Kyle."
