Chapter 47 Toying

In the early morning, Harold received a phone call.
"I hope I didn't disturb your rest, Secretary of Williams."
He was familiar with this voice, "Sam?"
"It's me, Sam." The male voice on the other end was warm and humorous. "You've been in office for almost two years. I've been too busy with my business and neglected to keep in touch. I've been thinking about it, so I specifically found you to arrange a meeting."
Harold chuckled, "It's been a while."
Sam used to be the biggest local contractor in State A. When he was appointed as the mayor to boost the economy, the two of them had a close relationship for a while. Their friendship was not shallow.
Prosperous Construction was the predecessor of River Holdings, which has now become the leading taxpayer in Radiant City, undertaking over 70% of the highway and urban construction projects.
"So, will you honor me with your presence?"
The man's right arm was partially numb from Maggie resting her head on it all night. He switched the receiver to his left hand, "I can make time."
Sam was jovial, "You're in the office..."
"Goldink County," Harold whispered, avoiding Sam's gaze.
"A business trip there?" Sam asked, confused.
"No, visiting someone in the hospital," Harold replied, his eyes downcast.
Outside the window, the rain drizzled down. The dim morning light fell gently on Maggie's sleeping face, making her look pure and serene. Her breathing was weak, like a warm spring that wouldn't scald anyone.
Harold hung up the phone and gently patted her slender back. "It's time to get up."
He had only reported a half-day sick leave to the city government.
Harold had a strong sense of career. When he served as the second-in-command in State A, he had a sharpness akin to drawing a knife.
He was sent to the local area by the state, not only because of his abilities, but to establish a good reputation for him, making it easier for him to get promoted.
State A was once plagued by bureaucracy and factional struggles. Eleven members of the Standing Committee were divided into nine camps, accumulating wealth for themselves and disregarding the grievances of the people.
Within less than six months of taking office, Harold had reclaimed over a billion dollars of public funds, visited the people to gather information, restructured and reformed, dismantled the factional camps, and centralized power in the hands of the President of the State A City Government, who was elderly and suffering from a serious illness and had submitted a retirement application to the state.
Harold broke through this chaotic situation and firmly grasped the power, earning the respect and loyalty of his subordinates.
Maggie turned over and hid under the covers.
Harold pinched her sensitive waist, causing her to tremble. She curled up even deeper into the covers and murmured, "What time is it..."
"You don't want to get up?" Harold arm tightened, their bodies fitting together perfectly. "Then I'll just leave you here."
His lowered voice, like gravel grinding against her nerves, was both ambiguous and malicious, causing her cheeks to blush.
With the warm and fragrant body in his embrace, Harold's unfulfilled desires surged, pressing stiffly against Maggie's waist.
He pecked at her neck, where a short stubble had grown overnight, rough and prickly, causing her skin to shiver.
Unable to escape his embrace, Maggie felt Harold's skillful caresses. He bit her exposed shoulder and back, indulging in his desires. Her experiences of desire were almost entirely from him, and she couldn't resist it deep down; even more so, she couldn't stand it. Her eyes glistened with desire.
Grabbing his hot palms that were kneading and ravaging her ample and velvety breasts, Maggie's voice became hoarse. "I can get up now."
Harold chuckled, turning her face towards him and kissing her lips forcefully before releasing her. "Hurry up."
Maggie washed up, not lingering for too long. She spent some time taking care of her throat, as the high fever had caused a mild inflammation.
Maggie went to the breakroom to fetch hot water and dampened a towel, wrapping it around her neck. She repeated this process a few times.
Harold, who had been flipping through a magazine idly, asked impatiently, "Is this helpful?"
She took two throat lozenges and replied, "The TV presenter taught me. It has a psychological effect."
Last night, a thunderstorm caused a high-voltage line to break, resulting in a small-scale forest fire.
The hospital hall was chaotic, and even the deputy dean, who was in charge of the clinical department, had to step in due to a shortage of staff.
Harold was going to contact the state office for some arrangements, but he refused.
The vice dean dared not show any temper and warmly shook hands with him, saying, "Secretary, I will treat you well the next time you come to Goldink ."
Harold stood upright and replied, "No worries, go focus on you own job first."
The car passed by the Goldink County morning market and got stuck for ten minutes.
Maggie leaned against the window, looking outside. There were cherry, apricot, and rose vendors on the roadside, their fruits laid out in baskets exuding a fresh morning aroma.
Entangled with the Mayor's Allure
