THE HUMAN WORLD.
SCIENTIFIC WORLD. THE LAB.
COREY.
"What do you mean you have no idea what happened to her? Is she not your roommate?"
Doctor Philips snaps, jabbing his palms on the desk, and I glare up at him, shaking my head. "How the fuck am I supposed to know where she is when she just vanished out of the blue? I'm just her roommate like you said. I'm not a fucking watchdog that have to watch over her every single damn time!"
His scowl softens, seeming taken aback by my words, but it doesn't take long for that to decompose from his expression to be covered by a frown.
"You will repeat those same words to doctor Zion once he's here. You were given one responsibility! Just one simple mission! To look after the wrenched werewolf till we have every knowledge, and observation we want from her but you failed at it. And now thanks to you, our test experiments, and the wolf girl is gone!"
I say nothing, but stare down at the desk like it's an interesting piece of art, knowing he's not wrong about that.
The main reason I was tasked to be Isberlt's roommate is so I'll be able to watch after her, and observe her abilities, and behaviours. But the girl is a fucking pain in the ass with her too sharp brain, and blabbering mouth. Not to talk about her stubbornness.
"I think you both should calm down, " Doctor Shelley says from the other end of the table, drawing our attention to him, and making it known that there's another doctor in the room. "We should wait for doctor Zion to be here before making any decision. What I do not understand, Corey, is why you didn't bring it to our notice immediately she was gone? Why wait till few days before informing us?"
He lifts his brows at me, and my hand unconsciously moves to the collar of my neck, rubbing against the two holes that give me headaches every night. I still don't understand why I'm only bringing the matter up now, when Isberlt has been missing for the past few days. I feel like I'm forgetting something too; I just can't say what, or why.
"I do not know. "
I respond as quietly as I can, sounding so undecided of myself, and doctor Philips sneers before taking his seat once again, arms hemmed on the desk. "I told you we shouldn't have tasked him with watching over such a significant subject like Isberlt, but none of you heeded to me, and now here we are. "
He dissipates his arms, as if to illustrate the dilemma that we all suddenly found ourselves in, and just as I open my mouth to say something to obstruct his words; the door opens, and Doctor Zion steps in, with a blue suit encasing him, and a short woman standing behind him with a file in hand.
"I got the message for the meeting. May I understand why this sudden meeting was called without my consent?" He asks, with that never-ending frown etched to his face with his arms crossed behind his back.
Doctor Shelley looks at me, to doctor Philips then back to me again— exhorting us to say something, but neither of us makes any move to.
"I believe I'm speaking to you. "
Doctor Zion says, his voice much louder this time.
"I think the woman should give us privacy for this, doctor Zion. "
Doctor Shelley says, and Zion looks back at the woman behind him before waving his hand at doctor Shelley, dismissing his idea.
"You don't have to worry about her. She's one of the most trusted doctors at the headquarters, and anything you're planning on telling me is safe with her. "
He says, and doctor Philips nods this time. "In that case, then I believe you may take your seats. Trust me, you'll need it for this. "
Doctor Zion gazes around the room with an odd expression on his face, and my heart leaps when his gaze meets with mine; his dark eyes zeroing on me. I shift uncomfortably in my seat, before looking away from him, gulping down my dear.
I have no idea what it is, but there's something about him that makes me so fucking scared.
I lift my gaze back up to him when he takes a seat opposite me, with the woman taking her seat beside him.
"We will like to inform you, doctor Zion, that a very ugly incident happened within our vicinity days ago, which doctor Corey is just bringing to our knowledge by the way, " Mother-fucking sick bastard! All eyes move to me at doctor Philip's words, and I straighten up in my seat, swallowing down my fear, and meeting Zion square in the eye.
"I will like to make a few adjustments to doctor Philip's words. An ugly occurrence happened in our office days ago, and we are all just fully aware of it. " I tell him, and when doctor Philips makes a move to speak; Shelley raises his hand to stop him, and I send him a look of appreciation.
"I believe this ugly incident must have a name. What had happened here?"
I look over to doctor Shelley at the point, and he nods, clearing his throat, and drawing attention back to him. "There was a break-in, and we lost our test experiments. Including the wolf girl, we were planning to use as bait to the wolves whom the Sera have been used on. "
A very suffocating silence swoops in the air after the doctor's Shelley words as Zion looks around the room; an unsure smile on his face.
"What you are telling me right now is that this headquarter lost the test experiments, including the one bait we had?" He scoffs, and no one makes a move to say anything, knowing his anger is slowly rising.
"Answer me, you motherfuckers! Do you mean that you lost my experiments?! Including that wretched girl?!"
He snaps, looking at each one of us, and I gulp down the bile that's beginning to rise in my throat.
"They are gone, doctor Zion. But on the bright side; we still have those chained. I guess that they didn't have enough time to get the rest of them. "
Doctor Shelley announces, earning a glare from doctor Zion, and immediately shutting his mouth.
"I didn't think neither of you could be this reckless to the extent you lost the experiments to the wolves. I don't know how they can find here in the first place, I guess they are smarter than I gave them credit for. But you should all be prepared, because they will surely be back for the rest of them, and I hope you wouldn't let my guard down like you just did. "
He stands, followed by the woman beside him, "Take me to the ones that are still here. We will continue the test on them. "
I settle back on the chair as I watch them leave the room; doctor Zion looking completely defeated.
I wince as I take my hand back to the two holes; something doesn't feel right, and I just can't fucking say what!
ISBERLT.
"Here, Isberlt. "
Rio passes me another one of the too fucking short gowns, and I press my lips into a thin line as I grab it from him, holding it to my chest together with the already torn one.
"I'm sorry. I wish you had been obedient right from the start, then I wouldn't have had to take you to him. " He gazes down at the torn gown, a guilty expression on his face. "I told you he can be scary when he wants to. "
I give him no reply because I know if I open my mouth to speak; it'll be harsh words from the anger rising in me for the shame, and embarrassment I had to face on my way back to the dungeon.
The dress barely covered anything, and I had to flash myself before sex coveted men, that I want nothing other to whack some sense into them—if only I had the power to.
"The moonball is tonight, and there'll be lots of new faces there. " Whom I'm sure will hate me just like the rest of them. "I know you're always wanting to defend yourself, but Isberlt, I'm begging you. Just for this one time, do not say anything to anyone. No matter how badly you want to. Just please, keep it in. "
When I say nothing, he sighs, and begin to retrace his steps, "I will take my leave now. You should get dressed. "
I watch as he walks out of the dungeon, and when his frame completely disappears; I throw the dress against the wall in rage, pulling on my hair as a countermeasure to release all my pent up frustration.
I just want to get the fuck out of here already!
A long sigh flies past my parted lips as I rest against the cemented levelled ground, and my hand moves to my collar.
We can do this. Let's just get this stupid shit of a moonball over with.
***
I let out a small breath as I smooth my hands over my dress; my stomach rumbling in response, bringing me to the realization that I haven't had anything since last night, and it's already nightfall.
Knowing that I should probably get out there since the party is already begun, I ignore the rumbling, and bend over to grab the torn dress; only for my eyes to go wide as I sense another presence with me, and it's definitely not Rio. Nor is it the old woman that comes down every day anytime I'm late for my slave jobs.
It's s different aura, and is much stronger. Strangely too, it feels weirdly familiar.
I jump back in shock, the same time he wraps his hand around my neck—right above my collar— and forcefully drag me backwards, pinning me to the wall as his smirking form comes into view.
"Now let's see who will save you from me this time. Whore. "
