Who Got Into You

With the taste of blood still fresh on her tongue, Gretchen lazily opened her eyes and released her bite while her senses slowly returned to her. A smile came to her lips as she saw Damien laying underneath her until she realized what she had done.

Gretchen slapped Damien's face and shook his shoulders as she tried to wake him, then she saw the wound the frenzied wolf who took her over created. “Oh God, what did I do? Damien!”

She quickly pulled away from him and slid to the floor, then scrambled to put on her clothing. Gretchen knew that one of those psychics would know what she did and she didn't want to be stark naked when they showed up.

“Oh, no! No! What did I do? Please be alright.” Gretchen frantically ran her hands through her hair as panic set in. Damien already had one bite, what would this do to him? She knew Tessa had two bites, but that was different. They were her both her mates and they were twins , it was meant to be that way. As her battered mind tried to think, she looked at Damien and paced back and forth beside the bed. "Oh, fuck. Daniel's going to kill me. Oh, shit. I need to get out of here. Where in the hell can I go where he won't find me? Fuck, think Gretch."

She stopped in front of Damien, then crawled in the bed beside him and kissed his lips. As she combed her fingers through his dark hair she looked over his face. "I'm so sorry, baby. Please, don't hate me. No one's ever cared for me the way you do and look what I did to you." She kissed him again gently, then headed towards the door. Gretchen's trembling hands grabbed the handle and she did the only thing that made sense at that moment, she opened the door and ran down the hall only to have two big arms wrap around her from behind. "No! Please! Let me go! I have to get out of here."

“Where the fuck do you think you're running off to, Princess?” asked Rhett as he dragged her back down the hall. "No fucking where, that's where you're going. What the hell's wrong with you girl?"

Gretchen struggled against Rhett's strong arms and tried to pull his hands away from her. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean it. I bit him, Rhett."

"Jesus, is that all? Are you fucking crazy, Gretchen?" Rhett brought her into the bedroom then closed the door behind him. He looked over Damien as he snored in bed, then Rhett rubbed the back of his neck and chuckled. “Well shit, at least someone got laid tonight. The twins didn’t feel like sleeping so there was no magic going on in my bed, that’s for damn sure."

Gretchen chewed the pad of her thumb and sucked back her tears as she paced the floor. “Rhett I didn’t mean to do it. It just happened. I don’t know what got into me."

“Well, I can sure as shit see WHO got into you."

Gretchen wiped her face across her sleeve. "Does this look like a fucking joke to you?"

Rhett sat on the edge of the bed and scrunched up his face. "Stop being so goddamn dramatic, Gretchen. Sit your ass down, lets talk.”

As Gretchen sat down on the edge of the chair at the bedside, Rhett checked Damien's bite then covered him with the blanket. “When Eliphas sent Damien a message that you arrived and were on your way North, he was like a little kid on Christmas morning waiting to open his first present. It’s funny to see such a serious man acting like that. I knew the minute he let you get away with talking shit to him the way you did that he was head over fucking heels in love. I’ve never seen anyone run their mouths like that to anyone in this family and get away with it."

Gretchen smirked as she pushed her tears off her face. Rhett shook his head as he looked Gretchen over. “Maybe because of all your trauma and shit, you can't see the truth and it's not my fucking place to enlighten you, but your wolf knows. I don't know what's going on in that head of yours where you two aren't communicating anymore, but just try to listen to her for a minute. She fought for what was hers and won tonight. She earned this, don’t take him away from her. You can’t leave him like this, Gretchen. If he wakes up and you’re not here, he’ll be a fucking disaster. Men like Damien don't do well when they're left all alone like that. His mind gets dark real quick and, trust me, you don't want that to fucking happen.”

Gretchen bit her lip and looked away. “He’s going to hate me.”

Rhett furrowed his brows and pulled up his lips into a scowl. “That can’t ever happen. He's been waiting around a long time for you, he won't ever let you go."

"He has two bites. Is he going to be ok? How does that even...What's going to happen?"

“Shit Gretchen. Really? Come on, you can't be this fucking hard headed." Rhett stood up and crossed his arms as he shook his head at Gretchen. He glanced to the window and saw the fire still burning outside as he thought about what to say. "You and Damien need to have a serious converstation when he wakes up. This shit has just gone too fucking far."

"What are you talking about? What's gone too far? Why won't anyone just tell me what the hell is going on for once ?"

Rhett scratched the stubble on his chin. "You know what? You're fucking right. Someone does need to tell you..." Rhett closed his eyes, then shook off what he was planning on saying. "Fuck! He's in my head, Daniel's on his way. Just keep your smartass mouth shut, Gretchen. You understand me?"

Gretchen stood up and wiped her face off with her hands as her heart started racing. She looked to Damien and knew that Daniel was going to tear her apart. Looking at Damien right now, she really couldn't blame him.

The air around them swirled and pulled against their lungs as a black mist began to shape itself. Gretchen saw black eyes glaring at her from inside the cloud and she closed her eyes as she prepared for the worst. "Don't be ridiculous, Gretchen. Luckily for you, I love my son. I'd never hurt his mate." Gretchen opened her eyes and saw Daniel walking to the bed.

"I'm sor..." Daniel waved his hand at Gretchen as she attempted to apologize and explain herself, then he said, "Go to your room now, Gretchen."

Gretchen's eyes watered and she bit her lip as Rhett grabbed her arm and pulled her away from the room. As he shut the door behind him, Rhett continued to pull her to her bedroom. He pushed her inside and said, "Don't move a fucking muscle and, for God's sake, don't say another fucking word to Daniel. Just stay in here and don't do anything stupid, Gretchen. I'm serious. I know what's going on in your head right now, but you don't understand anything that's happening and you'll just fuck everything up. Just sit tight, do you hear me?"

Gretchen nodded her head, then Rhett closed her door.

Daniel sat on the bed beside Damien and grabbed his chin, then turned it away from him so he could inspect the wound. Daniel huffed through his nose and chuckled. "Well, that was very unnecessary, wasn't it?" As Daniel's fingertips moved across Damien's neck, the purple and black bruising started to recede and Damien slowly opened his eyes. As his brain woke up again, Damien desperately tried to pull his blankets away from his body. Daniel held up his hand to stop him. "You seriously believe I would harm the mother of my grandchild? You're being just as silly as Gretchen. She's fine, she's right next door in her room."

Damien's teeth chattered together as his whole body shivered. He looked around the room and saw the red and orange light from the fire in the glass of the window. "What time is it? Is there still time?"

Daniel shook his head and snapped his fingers to get Damien's attention. "It's alright. It's done, Damien. He's coming."

Damien looked back to Daniel and his eyes teared over. "Really? Are you sure?"

A kind smile curled up on Daniel's lips, it looked out of place on his normally emotionless face. He grabbed the back of Damien's head and pulled their forehead's together. "I am. Everything is falling into place now." Daniel sat up again then said, "You need to tell her about your history. She's racked with guilt about what she's done to you, it's not good for either of them to carry all that burden around. She can handle the truth now, but it's better to do it before she's too far along. Take her to the shack, Damien."
