Chapter Seventeen - Stop her

Freya Rose

I followed Mason up the stairs. He knew I was walking behind him, but he stayed silent, so I did the same. We got to the top of the stairs and walked past the first bedroom door. I could hear Evan and Selene giggling and having fun, and I couldn't help but feel a little jealous. Not because I wanted Evan, but because that was how my night was supposed to go with Mason. But now there is no chance of that. I know I've hurt him, and the least I can do is explain and tell him the truth. I continued to follow behind him, he walked all the way down the landing and then entered the end room. He didn't bother to hold the door open for me, so I quickly grabbed it before it slammed in my face.
As I followed him into the room he headed straight over to a set of chest of draws and pulled out some shorts. He dropped his towel and I couldn't help but stare at his perfect ass as I made my way over to the four-poster bed. When I got to the bed I froze on the spot. There were pink rose petals scattered all around, and then in the middle of the bed, the petals were laid out in a heart shape. In the middle of the heart was a large blue velvet box and a little black velvet box. I held my hands up to my chest as thoughts flooded my mind. Was he going to propose to me tonight?
Before my thoughts had a chance to run away with me, Mason approached the bed, he picked up the large blue box and handed it to me, as he said,
“Happy birthday Freya. I got you this.”
Then without saying another word he took the little black velvet box and shoved it into his pocket. He then began frantically clearing away the rose petals. I furrowed my brow and replied,
“What are you doing? Leave them, they look pretty.”
I tried to grab his arm, but he just turned to scowl at me and then ripped his arm away from my reach. I stood back in shock and let him finish frantically brushing the petals off of the bed and onto the floor. Tears were welling up in my eyes as I watched him. Some of the petals weren't budging and his frustration grew as he kept trying to brush them off of the duvet. Finally admitting defeat he ripped the duvet off of the bed and threw it onto the floor. He then turned around and slumped down onto the bed. I stepped forwards a little as he sat on the edge of the bed and sank his head into his hands.
Before I managed to get to him he roared out, and then threw his arm to the side. It smashed right through the post of the bed that stood next to him. The top of the bed collapsed bringing the drapes down around him. I quickly shuffled backwards as he stood up and screamed into the air. He then turned around and lifted the bed up and then hurled it at the wall. The crash echoed and I could hear the pack from outside quickly running into the cabin. Mason was now on a rampage, he was throwing every bit of furniture around the room, kicking and punching everything and anything he could. Selene and Evan were the first to arrive at my door, both stood there in their underwear in complete shock.
“What the hell happened?” Selene asked in confusion.
I turned as soon as she began to speak, and shouted into her face,
“You! You're what fucking happened, your little comments downstairs, he heard it all.”
“Oh shit Freya, I'm so sorry, I didn't think he would react this badly,” she replied with genuine guilt in her voice.
“Well, how the hell did you think he was going to react to finding out that I'd slept with Sam?” I shouted at her.
As soon as the words escaped my lips Mason screeched into the air, I turned to watch as he levitated into the air and ascended, then instantly burst into flames. By now the rest of the pack were at the bedroom door, so I turned and shouted,
“Look, I'm fine, please can you all just leave? Go downstairs and I'll call you if I need help, I promise.”
They all reluctantly obeyed and one by one began making their way back down the landing. Finnley was the last to leave and he said,
“I'm just next door if you need me Alpha.”
I nodded with a slight smile and then closed the door. I closed my eyes and inhaled a deep breath as I prepared myself to face Mason. I opened my eyes back up as I exhaled, and then turned around to face him. His wings were folded down his back, and he just stood there staring at me while engulfed in brilliant flames. I didn't know what to do so I just stood there waiting for him to make the first move. He began to slowly walk towards me, and my natural instinct was to move backwards. I walked back until my back it the door, I placed my hands behind me on the door and waited for him to approach. There was no escaping this, I needed to face whatever he had to throw at me, it was the least I owed him.
When he reached me he put both of his hands either side of my head, and I could hear the wooden door crackling and fizzing underneath his flaming hands. I looked up into his pure white eyes and tried to look as sorry as I could. He then bellowed out in his deep Phoenix voice,
“How could you? Am I not enough for you?”
I could hear the sadness in his voice, and it broke my heart. I raised my hands and placed them onto his face, and while staring into his eyes I replied,
“Mason, of course you're enough for me.”
“Then why Freya? Why!?” He screamed into my face as he slammed his fist into the door beside my head.
I quickly moved my head to the side as parts of the door splintered and fell to the floor. I closed my eyes as my own anger built, I then ascended and burst into my own brilliant flames. I shoved my hands onto his chest and pushed him away from me as I screamed at him,
“I don't know Mason! Maybe the same reason why you never bothered to come and find me? I thought I'd never see you again. Or maybe it was because I was trying to forget about you, I just don't know!”
I then pushed him some more as I shouted,
“Or maybe I just needed to feel loved and wanted, and you weren't there!”
I crouched down onto the floor and descended, I then sat on the floor with my knees up and then dropped my head onto them as I sobbed. Mason stood there for a while just staring at me, I then heard him descend and walk towards me. He sat down on the floor behind me and pulled me into his chest, and then said in a soft voice,
“I'm sorry Freya. It's ok, I understand.”
“No, no it's not ok Mason. And you have no reason to apologise to me, what I did was wrong. I'm such a horrible person, why do I keep hurting the people that I love?” I cried out to him as I tried to pull myself out of his embrace.
He pulled me in tighter and replied,
“You're not a horrible person Freya, you were alone and hurting, and he was there to make the pain go away.”
He pushed me away slightly so that he could look into my eyes and said,
“I hate myself for not being there with you, I never want to make you feel like that again. Just know, that I will always want you, and I will always love you.”
I lowered my head and replied,
“I am so sorry Mason; you deserve a better woman than me.”
“Don't ever think that! The archangels gave me a perfect Fianna, they gave me you. I will never want anyone else but you, you hear me Freya!” He said as he pulled my chin up to gaze into my eyes.
I wrapped my arms and legs around him and clung onto him. I didn't ever want to let him go.

Mason Hart

After managing to calm down, Freya and I decided to wipe the slate clean and start again. I felt so guilty for going off on one and trashing the room. I had no reason to take the moral high ground. If only she knew what I'd done. Finnley was nice enough to offer us his room, so while Freya was having a bath I went over to Selene and Evan's room. I stood outside of their room trying to listen, I didn't want to walk in on any kinky stuff. Once I was sure that they were sleeping, I knocked gently on the door,
“Yeah?” Evan replied through the door.
“Um, Ev, can I have a word please?” I asked quietly, hoping not to wake the others.
“Yeah, one sec,” he replied.
I stepped back from the door, and he gently opened it, checked that Selene was still asleep and then closed it quietly behind him. He then rubbed his eye and asked,
“What's up?”
“Not here, let's go to the car,” I replied, and then walked towards the stairs.
He followed silently behind me as I crept down the stairs. I looked over to make sure that Finn was still asleep on the couch and luckily he was. I crept over to the front door and quietly opened it. It squeaked a little making Finn stir but he didn't wake. I held the door open for Evan and he walked outside. I followed behind him and gently closed the door behind me. Once outside we made our way over to the car. Evan got in the passenger side and I got in the driver's side.
“So, what's all this sneaking around in aid of?” Evan asked as soon as his door was shut.
I gripped a hold of the steering wheel and exhaled, not really wanting to tell him, but I knew I had to tell someone.
“Well, you know I just went ballistic about Freya sleeping with Samael?”
“Uh, yeah dude, I'm pretty sure the whole world heard you,” he joked.
I let out a little awkward chuckle,
“Ahem, well I had no right to react like that,” I replied.
“Dude, yes you did, hell of Selene cheated on me the whole cabin would have been smashed to the ground. And I would have probably gone to find the son of a bitch to kill him,” he replied as he turned to face me.
“No, what I mean is, I didn't exactly stay faithful either,” I blurted out before he had a chance to ramble on.
I lowered my head onto the steering wheel as I heard Evan slump back into his seat. He exhaled and then said,
“Well, now that changes things. So you have made that girl up there feel terribly guilty for cheating on you, when you cheated on her first?”
“Yeah, I know it's bad,” I replied in a low voice while still hiding away with my head on the steering wheel.
“Bad? That's one word to describe it, horrible, nasty, cruel are a few others. Who'd you sleep with?” He asked me.
“Imogen,” I replied honestly.
“Dude, her cousin? What's wrong with you!? Ah man, how are you gonna tell her?” He asked while he jabbed me in my side.
I sat up and looked at him, his face was serious, as I replied,
“I'm not. I can't, it's her birthday today, how can I tell her I slept with her cousin after creating a scene like that, and then be like, 'oh yeah happy birthday!' I can't can I?”
He rubbed his forehead and replied,
“Well shit, na you can't, but she needs to find out sometime, what happens if we have to go back to the faction?”
I stared at him wide-eyed and then shook my head, I then replied,
“No, no we can never go back there. Imogen is crazy, she is convinced that I'm her Fennid. I tried to explain to her that it's impossible, because I am Freya's Fennid, but she wasn't having any of it.”
“Oh, well that's not good, Selene said we need to go back there. Freya's only way to defeat Azael is to build her own army of hybrids, and for that she needs hunters. Selene believes that the faction is the best place to start, because the hunters already have a connection with Freya. They are more likely to volunteer to join her,” he said with a worried look on his face.
“Shit, when is she planning to do that?” I asked frantically.
“She was going to have a talk with you in a few days, apparently she has a warlock on his way to cloak Freya from Azael. After that we were going to head straight for the faction,” he paused for a moment, seeming to try and find the words.
“Just say it Ev, whatever it is, it can't be any worse,” I said in a low voice.
He raised an eyebrow at me, and my eyes grew wide, whatever he was about to say, he clearly thought was much worse. He turned more in his chair to face me, rested his hand on my shoulder and said,
“Look, you can't say anything, Selene will chop my balls off if she knew that I told you this. Promise me you won't say anything!”
“I promise,” I replied, even though I didn't know for sure if I could keep that promise.
“Well, the spell this warlock has to do to cloak Freya, it's a powerful spell, but it won't just cloak her from Azael. It will also cloak her from any other supernatural being that has ever had a romantic encounter with her. Selene organized the meeting with the warlock months ago, she was sure that Freya would have slept with Azael,” he rambled off his speech but half of it didn't sink in.
“What does that mean exactly?” I asked him in confusion.
“Well, it means that anyone from the supernatural world that has slept with Freya, won't see her, feel her, hear her or even know that she exists. Basically, she will be wiped from our memory completely,” he lowered his head and stared at the floor.
“What!? No, we can't let her do this, Ev we have to stop her!” I screamed out at him.
“We can't, we have gone over so many different plans, it's the only one that will work. It guarantees Freya time to build her army. If Azael doesn't know she exists, he can't come after her. Mason, it's the only way to keep her safe. We have to let her go,” he replied as he dropped his head into his hands.
I could see that he didn't like the idea of losing Freya anymore than I did, but I didn't care. I couldn't do it, I couldn't go behind her back again, and I couldn't stay quiet about something this big. She had to know, she had to make the decision herself. And I hoped to the archangels that she would choose against this cloaking spell. I hoped that she would choose me. I knew it was selfish, and many would die, but we could find another way, we could run away, or stand and fight, I didn't know exactly. But, there had to be some other way, where I didn't have to lose her again.
“I need to tell her,” I shouted out as I flung open the car door and began sprinting towards the cabin.
Evan ran behind me shouting,
“No Mason, you can't, please Mason!”
He managed to catch me and tackled me to the ground, I hit the floor with a thud. I turned around underneath him and to my surprise, the dick punched me in the face. He then went to punch me again, but I managed to grab his fist before he had a chance. I tried to crush it, but it wasn't working and instead, he just punched me with his other fist. I changed tactics and as much as I didn't want to do it, I knew it would give me a few seconds to run away. I pulled my knee up as fast as I could and slammed it into his balls. He coughed and wheezed as he fell off of me and curled up into the fetal position on the floor holding onto his junk.
“I am so sorry,” I yelled out as I stood up and sprinted towards the cabin.
As I reached the cabin door, I pushed it open and ran for the stairs. I had forgotten that Evan was a hybrid now and vamps are super fucking fast, so he pushed past me, nearly throwing me over the bannister, and ran up the stairs before me. I shouted out to him,
“You're not going to stop me, Evan. Freya needs to know!”
He stopped dead in front of me, turned around to face me, and an evil grin spread across his face as he said,
“This is for kicking me in the balls.”
He then stretched his leg out and booted me right in the face. I must have blacked out because when I opened my eyes, Finnley was standing above me and I was crumpled up at the bottom of the stairs. Luckily Evan hadn't moved, he was standing at the top of the stairs laughing his head off. I dragged myself up off of the floor and ran up the stairs towards him. He quickly turned back around and ran along the landing.
I was running so fast I missed one of the steps and fell down a few of them. I dragged myself up yet again and continued to chase after him. Once I hit the landing I could see that he was standing outside of our door, so I sped up and tackled him to the floor just before he had a chance to knock. I pinned him to the floor and punched him in the face a few times. He screamed out,
“Dude, you can't tell her, Freya doesn't need to know.”
I punched him one last time and blood splattered my hand, I then stood up and looked down at him, and then said,
“She does need to know!”
“What do I need to know?” Freya's confused voice came from behind me.
I turned around slowly and then held my hands up as I walked towards her, I then said in a low voice,
“Fi, there's something important I need to tell you. But please just hear me out.”
She folded her arms across her chest and replied,
“Ok, what is it?”
“Let's go inside and talk in private,” I replied as I placed my hand on her arm and then held the other one out towards the open bedroom door.
She pulled her arm away from me and replied,
“No, you say it here. You've woken everyone up already with your fighting, so whatever you have to say, just say it.”
I furrowed my brow and then placed my hands together as I begged,
“Please Freya, let's go inside.”
“No Mason, I'm not moving,” she said firmly.
“Fine, well the thing is...” I began.
“He's been sleeping with Imogen!” Evan shouted out from behind me.
I quickly turned to face him, and he was just sat there on the floor, and all he did was just shrug at me. I turned my head back around to face Freya and as I did her flaming fist hurtled towards my face. My eyes grew wide as I knew I didn't have time to dodge it. Her fist smashed right into my eye, making the world vanish in an instant.
