Chapter 20: Luna's First Full Moon

The air crackled with anticipation as night fell over the Rocky Mountains. Jessica paced nervously in the clearing, her heart pounding. This wasn't just any full moon – it was her first as the newly awakened Luna.

"You've got this," James murmured, his strong hand on her shoulder. His touch sent sparks through her body, calming and exciting her all at once.

Jessica looked up at him, drawing strength from his steady gaze. "What if I can't control it? What if I hurt someone?"

Michael stepped forward, his calculating eyes softening. "We're all here for you, Jessica. You won't face this alone."

As if on cue, her other mates gathered around her. David's gentle smile, Andrew's protective stance, Matthew's roguish wink, Daniel's quiet nod, and Christopher's eager grin – each offered silent support.

The moon began to rise, its silvery light bathing the clearing. Jessica felt it like a physical force, pulling at something deep inside her. She gasped, doubling over as heat flooded her body.

"Jessica!" James cried, reaching for her.

"No," she panted, holding up a hand. "I need... I need to do this myself."

Gritting her teeth, Jessica straightened. The power surged through her veins, wild and untamed. It wanted out, wanted to break free. For a moment, panic threatened to overwhelm her. Then she remembered the faces of the pack members looking to her for leadership, the young wolves taken by the cult. She couldn't let them down.

With a deep breath, Jessica embraced the power. Instead of fighting it, she let it flow through her, channeling it. Her skin began to glow, soft light emanating from within.

"Incredible," Christopher whispered, awe in his voice.

Jessica opened her eyes, seeing the world anew. Colors were brighter, scents sharper. She could feel the life force of the forest around her, the steady heartbeats of her mates.

"How do you feel?" David asked gently.

"Alive," Jessica breathed. "More alive than I've ever been."

Suddenly, a howl pierced the night. Jessica's head snapped up, her enhanced senses immediately pinpointing the source. It was a cry of distress, coming from the direction of the Thornridge pack's territory.

Without thinking, Jessica took off running. Her mates called after her, but she barely heard them. The forest blurred around her as she moved with inhuman speed, leaping over fallen logs and ducking under branches.

She burst out of the treeline to find chaos. A group of hooded figures – the cult – were attacking a small Thornridge settlement. Werewolves fought desperately against the intruders, but they were outnumbered.

Rage flooded Jessica's veins. How dare they attack on this night, her night? The Luna's power surged within her, and she let out a howl that shook the very air.

The fighting stopped as all eyes turned to her. Jessica stood tall, her body glowing with silvery light. "Leave," she commanded the cultists, her voice resonating with power. "You have no place here."

For a moment, the cultists hesitated. Then their leader stepped forward, throwing back his hood to reveal a face twisted with malice. "The Luna," he sneered. "Just the one we've been waiting for."

He raised his hands, dark energy crackling between them. Jessica braced herself, calling on every ounce of her new power. As the cult leader unleashed his attack, she threw up a shield of pure moonlight.

The two forces collided with a thunderous boom. Jessica felt the impact in her bones, but she held firm. Gritting her teeth, she pushed back against the dark energy.

Just then, her mates burst into the clearing. Seeing Jessica locked in combat, they leapt into action. James and Andrew tore into the cultists with feral rage, while Michael coordinated the Thornridge wolves. David rushed to tend the wounded, his healing touch glowing softly in the chaos.

Matthew and Daniel worked in perfect sync, herding the non-combatants to safety. Christopher, the youngest but no less fierce, guarded their retreat.

Bolstered by the arrival of her mates, Jessica redoubled her efforts. With a final surge of power, she shattered the cult leader's attack. The backlash sent him flying, crashing into a tree with a sickening crunch.

"Retreat!" one of the other cultists cried. The hooded figures scrambled to grab their fallen leader, melting back into the shadows of the forest.

As the last cultist disappeared, Jessica swayed on her feet. The adrenaline faded, leaving her drained. James was at her side in an instant, supporting her.

"That was incredible," he murmured, pride shining in his eyes.

Jessica managed a weak smile. "We did it. Together."

As the Thornridge wolves gathered around them, gratitude and awe on their faces, Jessica felt a sense of rightness settle over her. This was her purpose, her destiny – to protect, to lead, to unite.

The moon shone brightly overhead, its light a gentle caress on her skin. Jessica knew that challenges lay ahead, that the cult would return. But in this moment, surrounded by her mates and the wolves she'd sworn to protect, she felt invincible.

Little did she know, the true test of her newfound power and leadership was yet to come.
