Chapter 70: David's Healing Breakthrough

The infirmary was a hive of activity, the air thick with the scent of herbs and the low groans of the wounded. David moved from bed to bed, his hands glowing softly as he poured his healing energy into each injured wolf. But Jessica could see the strain on his face, the way his shoulders sagged with each passing hour.

"David," she said softly, approaching him as he finished with a particularly difficult case. "You need to rest. You've been at this for hours."

He shook his head, a grimace of determination on his face. "I can't. There are too many wounded, and the Shadow Walkers' attacks... they're not healing right. It's like there's something in the wounds, fighting against my power."

Jessica felt a chill run down her spine. The idea of the Shadow Walkers having some way to counteract their healing abilities was terrifying. "There has to be something we can do," she said, trying to keep the fear out of her voice.

David's eyes lit up suddenly, an idea taking shape. "Maybe... maybe there is. Your light, Jessica. It drives the shadows away. What if we combined our powers?"

The possibility hung in the air between them, filled with both hope and uncertainty. "I don't know if I can control it well enough," Jessica admitted. "What if I hurt them more?"

David took her hands in his, his touch gentle but insistent. "You can do this. I believe in you. We'll start small, okay?"

They approached one of the less severely injured wolves, a young female named Sarah who had been caught in the latest ambush. Her arm bore a long, jagged cut that seemed to pulse with an unnatural darkness.

"Ready?" David asked softly. Jessica nodded, taking a deep breath to center herself.

As David began to channel his healing energy into the wound, Jessica focused on summoning her light. She thought of the moon, of the power that flowed through her veins, of her love for her pack and her mates. Slowly, a soft glow began to emanate from her hands.

"That's it," David encouraged. "Now, focus on driving out the darkness. Imagine your light cleansing the wound."

Jessica concentrated, pouring all her will into the task. For a moment, nothing seemed to happen. Then, suddenly, there was a shift. The unnatural darkness in the wound began to recede, driven back by the combined force of David's healing and Jessica's light.

Sarah gasped, her eyes flying open. "The pain," she whispered. "It's... it's gone."

David's face broke into a wide smile, relief and joy shining in his eyes. "We did it," he said, squeezing Jessica's hand. "You did it."

As word spread of their success, more wounded wolves clamored for treatment. Jessica and David worked tirelessly, moving from bed to bed, their powers intertwining in a dance of light and healing.

Hours passed in a blur of effort and concentration. Finally, as the last patient drifted off to sleep, fully healed, David stumbled slightly. Jessica caught him, supporting his weight.

"That's enough," she said firmly. "You need to rest now."

This time, David didn't argue. He allowed Jessica to lead him to a quiet corner of the infirmary, collapsing onto an empty bed. As she sat beside him, he turned to her with wonder in his eyes.

"What you did today... it's incredible, Jessica. You've given us hope where there was none."

Jessica felt a warmth spread through her chest at his words. "We did it together," she said softly. "Your healing, my light... it's like they were made to work in tandem."

David nodded, his eyes growing heavy with exhaustion. "It's more than that, though. Your presence... it strengthens all of us. Gives us something to fight for."

As David drifted off to sleep, Jessica sat there, pondering his words. She'd always seen her role as Luna as a burden, a responsibility thrust upon her. But watching David work, seeing the way their powers had melded together, she began to understand it differently.

She wasn't just a figurehead or a prophesied savior. She was a part of something greater, a vital piece in the puzzle of their pack's survival. Her power, her light, was the key to unlocking new possibilities, new ways of fighting back against the darkness.

As she finally left the infirmary, Jessica felt a renewed sense of purpose. The Shadow Walkers might have ways to counter their usual defenses, but this new combination of her light and the alphas' abilities... it was something they couldn't have anticipated.

For the first time in a long while, Jessica felt a glimmer of real hope. They were adapting, growing stronger together. And with David's healing breakthrough, they had a fighting chance of not just surviving this war, but winning it.

The path ahead was still fraught with danger and uncertainty. The traitor in their midst was still a looming threat, and the Shadow Walkers were far from defeated. But as Jessica made her way back to her mates, she felt a strength within her that hadn't been there before.

Whatever challenges lay ahead, they would face them together. And with the power of her light combined with the unique strengths of each alpha, Jessica knew they stood a chance of overcoming even the darkest of shadows.
