Chapter 26: Jessica's Family Discovered
It was very early in the morning. The air was cold. Jessica was walking through the quiet pack lands. She was thinking about the big fight that was coming soon. But first, she had to do something important. She felt sad as she walked to a small cabin at the edge of the pack's land.
Jessica took a big breath and knocked on the door. After a little while, the door opened slowly. A woman who looked about as old as a mom stood there. Her eyes looked just like Jessica's eyes.
"Mom," Jessica said quietly. Her voice sounded a bit shaky.
Karen, Jessica's mom, looked very surprised. "Jessica? Why are you here? It's not safe-"
"I know, Mom," Jessica said, stopping her mom from talking. "That's why I came. We need to talk about something."
They went inside the cabin. Jessica looked at her mom and dad. There were many things they had never talked about, and it made everyone feel uncomfortable.
"You knew, didn't you?" Jessica asked. "You knew what I am, about the Luna?"
Jessica's dad, John, made a big sigh. "We thought maybe. Your grandma... she could see things that would happen in the future. She told us you would do something very special one day."
"Why didn't you tell me?" Jessica asked. She had many questions she had wanted to ask for a long time.
Karen reached out and held Jessica's hand. "We wanted to keep you safe, honey. We thought if we kept you away from all this wolf stuff, nothing bad would happen to you."
Jessica felt many things at once. She felt a little angry, but she also understood why her parents did it. And she still loved them very much. "I'm not safe, Mom," she said. "None of us are safe. There's going to be a big fight, and I have to be in it."
Jessica told her parents about everything that was happening. As she talked, her mom and dad looked more and more worried. When she finished talking, no one said anything for a little while.
Then John said, "What can we do to help?"
Jessica almost cried. She was happy that her parents believed her and wanted to help. "I need you to leave with the other people," she said. "Matthew will help everyone-"
"No," Karen said in a strong voice. "We're not going to leave you here."
"Mom, please," Jessica said. She really wanted them to go. "I can't fight if I'm worried about you getting hurt."
John put his hand on Karen's shoulder. "Karen, Jessica is right. We would just make it harder for her."
While they were talking about this, Jessica suddenly felt very cold all over. Her Luna powers told her something bad was coming.
"We need to go," she said quickly, stopping her parents from talking. "Right now."
As soon as she said this, the cabin door opened very fast. A group of bad people wearing dark clothes ran inside.
Jessica acted fast. She used her Luna powers to make a shield of moonlight to protect her mom and dad. "Run!" she yelled, pushing them towards the back door.
As her parents ran away, Jessica turned to fight the bad people. She felt the Luna's power getting stronger inside her. She waved her hand and two of the bad people flew across the room. Another one tried to hurt her with a knife, but she moved very fast and got away from him.
The fight was very hard but it didn't last long. Jessica was getting better at using her powers, and she really wanted to protect her family. This made her very strong. After a few minutes, all the bad people were on the floor. Some were asleep and some were hurt.
Jessica was breathing hard. She ran outside to find her parents. They were standing at the edge of the open space near the cabin. They looked very scared.
"Are you okay?" Jessica asked. She checked to make sure they weren't hurt.
Karen nodded. She kept looking at Jessica's face. "Jessica, your eyes... they're shining."
Jessica blinked. She suddenly noticed that she could still feel the Luna's power inside her. She took a big breath and tried to make the power go away.
"I'm sorry you had to see that," she said quietly. "But now you know why you need to go away. Please."
This time, her parents didn't try to argue. John gave Jessica a big hug. "We're very proud of you, honey. Be careful."
Matthew came with some people to help everyone leave. Jessica watched as her parents were taken away. Part of her wanted to go with them, to go back to her old, simpler life. But she knew she couldn't do that anymore. She had to stay and fight.
Jessica turned and looked back at the pack lands. She made herself feel strong for the big fight that was coming. She had a family to protect now - not just her mom and dad, but also her mates, her pack, and all the wolves who needed her to be a leader and protect them.
The Luna's power felt very strong inside her. Jessica's eyes looked very serious and strong. She was ready for what was coming next.
As Jessica walked back to the main part of the pack lands, she thought about everything that had just happened. She felt both happy and sad. She was happy that she finally knew the truth about her family, but she was sad that she had to send them away.
Jessica thought about her grandma, who could see the future. She wondered what her grandma had seen about her. Did she know about all the hard things Jessica would have to do? Did she know about the Luna?
As she walked, Jessica practiced using her Luna powers. She made small balls of moonlight float around her. She tried to sense if there were any more bad people nearby. She wanted to be ready for anything.
When she got back to the main pack house, James was waiting for her. He looked worried.
"Are you okay?" he asked. "I felt that you were in danger."
Jessica nodded. "I'm okay. But some of the bad people found my parents' house. We had to fight."
James looked even more worried now. "Are your parents safe?"
"Yes," Jessica said. "They're leaving with the other people who can't fight. Matthew is helping them."
James gave Jessica a hug. She felt safe in his arms, but she also felt strong. She wasn't just someone who needed protection anymore. She was a protector too.
"What do we do now?" Jessica asked.
James looked serious. "We get ready for the big fight. We need to make sure everyone knows what to do."
Jessica nodded. She felt a little scared, but also brave. She knew that with her mates, her pack, and her Luna powers, they had a chance to win.
As the sun came up, Jessica and James gathered all the wolves who could fight. They told them about the plan. Some of the wolves looked scared, but most of them looked brave and ready.
Jessica stood in front of everyone. She felt the Luna's power inside her, making her feel strong and sure.
"We can do this," she said to everyone. "We're fighting for our home, for our families, for all wolves everywhere. We won't let the bad people win."
All the wolves howled together. It was a sound of agreement and bravery. Jessica felt proud of her pack.
As the howls faded away, Jessica looked at James. They both knew that the hardest part was still to come. But they were ready to face it together.
Jessica thought about her parents one more time. She hoped they were safe. She promised herself that she would see them again when all of this was over.
The pack started to get ready for the fight. Jessica helped where she could, using her Luna powers to make shields and heal small injuries. She knew that soon, she would have to use these powers in the big fight.
As the day went on, Jessica felt more and more sure that they could win. She was still a bit scared, but she was also excited to use her full powers and protect everyone she loved.
The Luna inside her seemed to agree. Jessica felt warm and strong. Whatever happened next, she was ready.
